Rays Favored as Skid Continues
The Tampa Bay Rays losing streak has now hit 10 games and despite this they are still favored at -137 for their home date with the Seattle Mariners. The Rays have been favored for six of the games during the current skid. It's Erick Bedard's turn to try and stop the bleeding, but the Rays haven't won in his last four starts.
Rocky stretch for Colorado
The Colorado Rockies pitching staff has struggled, giving up 7.4 runs per game in the last 10. Combine that with the fact the Rockies bats have also gone a little cold, scoring just 3.8 runs per game compared to their usual average of 5.0 and the Rockies have lost nine of 10, including seven straight. They are start a weekend series with the Dodgers (-123).
Pitching Notes
Cole Hamels takes the mound for the Philadelphia Phillies as an underdog for the third time in nine starts this season. The Phillies have just one win in Hamels starts this season and are 6-0-3 over/under. The Phillies take on the Cincinnati Reds (-139), who send Johnny Ceuto to the mound.
The Chicago White Sox are +179 dogs when they visit the Los Angeles Angels (-195) tonight. Rienzo has been a dog in all eight of his starts this year, resulting in him being the fourth best money pitcher at +$690 units. However, the Sox have lost the last two games Rienzo has started.
Hitting Notes
The Toronto Blue Jays offense just keeps rolling. In Thursday's 7-3 win over the Detroit Tigers, not only did they complete the series sweep, but Melky Cabrerra, Juan Francisco and Brett Lawrie all hit their 10th homers of the year. The Jays have won 19 of 23, but even with all the dingers are just 11-11-1 over/under in that span.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have been absolutely crushing the ball in their last three, scoring 32 runs on 48 hits in a sweep of the Colorado Rockies. Bettors should take note however, they take one of the best under teams when they start a weekend series with the Atlanta Braves.
Totals Streak
Chicago White Sox (1-8 over/under): The White Sox pitching has improved thanks in part to the return of Chris Sale and his ability to anchor the rotation. They are only giving up 2.9 runs per game during their current under run. They start a series with the Los Angeles Angels today with a total currently at 8.0.
Injury Notes
There is no timetable for Washington Nationals' left fielder Bryce Harper to return from a torn ligament in his thumb, but he hopes to return sometime in early July. Harper injured his thumb sliding into third base April 21. The Nationals are 17-17 and are -$314 units in Harper's absence.
Mat Latos' return to the Cincinnati Reds rotation could be delayed after having a minor league rehab start cut short Wednesday. Latos left the game after 67 pitchers with a calf cramp. He may make one more rehab start before returning to the big club. Latos went 14-7 with a 3.16 ERA last season for the Reds.
Weather Watch
There will be a 13 mile per hour wind blowing in from right-center field at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington for the Rangers (-168, 8) series opener against the Cleveland Indians. Teams are 6-6 over/under in these conditions at Arlington.
