Alabama - Everyone knows the Tide has a great quarterback with outstanding receivers.
That said, don't be surprised if the offense commits more to the run in 2019. Bama
rushed for fewer than 200 yards in five of their last six games, including a measly 148
against Clemson in the title game. With running backs Harris, Robinson and Sanders
carrying the ball...look for Alabama to get back to dominating up front a little more.
Najee Harris (6-2, 230) is headed for a huge year after waiting his turn the past two
years. The kid (man) is a stud and he will prove it this season.

SEC - The NFL is extremely thankful for the Southeastern Conference. The league produced
a record setting 64 draft picks in April, eclipsing its own previous high. For the 13th straight
year, the SEC has lead college football in total selections with nine coming in the opening (1st)
round. The nearest conference during the 2019 draft was the Big Ten with 40 picks. In terms
of most selections by school, Alabama (10), Georgia (7), Texas A&M (7) and Auburn (6) were
each included in the top 7. Alabama's nation leading ten selections marked the third consecutive
year that the Tide was college football's torch-bearers during draft week. Alabama's 87 draftees
over the last eleven years are the most by any program in college football in that span. LSU is
second with 75 players drafted.

FanDuel just recently announced its 2019 SEC championship odds.

Alabama -160
Georgia +300
Florida +1200
LSU +1200
Mississippi St. +2300
Auburn +2700
Kentucky +2700
Texas AM +2700
Missouri +3500
South Carolina +5000

Ole Miss +12,500

Arkansas +25,000

*Ouch, no love for Texas A&M.
*Feel lucky, put 80 bucks on Vanderbilt and become a millionaire.
*Miss State ahead of Auburn and Texas AM...don't think so.
*Personally, I'd put a dollar on LSU for the hell of it.

An $116.6 million plan to overhaul Alabama athletics received unanimous approval
from the board of trustees committee last week. This is the first of a three-phase
athletics facility project announced last August. The plan is to raise $600 million over
ten years to pay for the renovations.

Online sportsbook, MyBookie, has set the over/under for how much longer Nick Saban
will coach at Alabama at 5.5 seasons. Alabama recently extended Saban's contract to
2025 and the 67-year-old coach appears to be in good health.

The Green Bay Packers will hold a weekend of activities in September, wear a No. 15
decal on their helmets during the 2019 NFL season and make a $250,000 charitable
donation in memory of Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Bart Starr. Mr. Starr
played for Sidney Lanier High School (B'ham) and the University of Alabama. He died
May 26 at age 85.

Former Alabama All-American linebacker C.J. Mosley has signed a five year contract
with the New York Jets. The contract is worth $85 million. Mosley had played the
previous five years with Baltimore but opted to sign with the Redskins. Good to be
an All-American linebacker from Alabama.

Florida Defensive Coordinator - The well traveled Todd Grantham is entering his second with
the Gators. The 52-year-old Virginia native was the Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator
from 2005-07 before coaching the Dallas Cowboys' defensive line from 2008-09. He returned
to the college ranks to be Georgia's DC under Mark Richt from 2010-13. He jumped to Louisville
where he was DC for Bobby Petrino from 2014-16. Dan Mullen hired Grantham to be Mississippi
State's DC in 2017 before Grantham followed Mullen to Gainesville. The Cincinnati Bengals
reportedly pursued Grantham in the off-season to be DC, but he chose to remain at Florida. His
2018 team ranked 5th in the SEC in total defense and 24th nationally. Grantham will earn a
base salary of $1,490,000 during 2019. I don't want to get into a pissing contest with Gator fans
but I've always thought Grantham was overrated. He's not a top tier coordinator in the SEC in
my opinion.

Tennessee - This year's team has the experience to be a whole lot better than last
year. Pruitt is bringing in the talent to help find some answers, starting with the
offensive line. Star recruits Darnell Wright and Wanya Morris might be too good to
keep off the field. Both should help an offensive line that struggled last year. The
Vols had the worst running game in the SEC in 2018 averaging just 3.7 yards per
carry. The blocking needs to be a whole lot better this season for an offense that
never showed consistently to win in the tough SEC. The defense should be a lot
stronger with a little time and luck, needing some new players on the front three
to be eligible and stay healthy. Eight games are at home, there's a week off to get
ready for Georgia and all four non-conference games are winnable. Win the out
of league games and go 4-4 in the conference and the Vols have eight wins. I
believe they have a really good shot to get there.

Opening Week - For whatever reason, LSU has a habit of keeping it somewhat close against
inferior non-conference opponents during Oregon's tenue, even suffering a loss to Troy during
the 2017 season. Georgia Southern won ten games last year and set a new FBS record for
fewest turnovers (5) in a single season. LSU fans who expect to see a revised offense blossom
get their first opportunity to see it in action here, but don't expect to see much of the playbook
against the Eagles. The Tigers will travel to Texas the following week when the real playbook
will be displayed. Giving 26 points to Georgia Southern could be risky for a team look ahead
against the nationally ranked Texas Longhorns.

Opening Week - In season openers, bettors tend to lean toward the team with the
fewest questions and in this Florida-Miami neutral site game in Orlando, the Gators
are the answer. We're still 2.5 months away from kickoff, but the Hurricanes are
undecided at quarterback which plays into Florida defensive coordinator Todd Grantham's
aggressive game planning. Giveaways were an issue for Miami (most in ACC) last year
and could be a factor in this game. Miami is 6-6 against the spread in its last twelve
games against Top 25 teams while Florida went 3-1 ATS last season alone against ranked
teams. At this time, I favor the Gators -7.5 and would take them up to -9.

Trap Game...Maybe?
Georgia has won five straight against Missouri going back to 2013, but it's going
to be ripe to be pick off if the full focus isn't there. The Dawgs play Florida before
facing the Tigers, and they have to go to Auburn right after. Kelly Bryant and his
band of brothers get a week off to get ready for their trip to Athens. After coming
off a physical and emotional fight with Florida, the Bulldogs better be ready for
a rested and fired up Missouri team.

According to CBS Sports, Georgia has the SEC's second toughest strength of schedule
for the 2019 season. The Dawgs are second to South Carolina and just ahead of
Texas A&M, both of which UGA will face this season. Notable opponents on Georgia's
2019 slate include home games against Notre Dame, South Carolina, Kentucky, Texas
A&M and Missouri. On the road, Georgia will face Tennessee and Auburn, plus the
annual battle with Florida in Jacksonville. Of those teams, five are ranked in Athlon's
preseason rankings.

I saw Bart Starr play at Lambeau many times, not only was he one of the all-time great QB'S in the NFL, he was a gentleman and a class-act on and off the field,

Mack, Bart Starr was drafted in the 17th round of the NFL draft and went on to be a
great NFL quarterback. He also coached Green Bay for a number of years. He's one
of my all time favorite players.

Most people don't know this but while at Alabama, he was an outstanding punter. He
finished second in the nation one season and was a top the SEC during his playing
days for the Tide.

Derek Mason enters his sixth season at Vanderbilt never having a winning season. He
will welcome back 11 starters (just 4 on defense) for the 2019 campaign. While the
rest of the SEC East is improving, Vanderbilt is just not keeping up and is sure to struggle
some early with an unproven offensive line and defense. The Doars will open the season
against Georgia, Purdue and LSU where they could easily start 0-3. There are a few bright
spots on the team but not enough talent overall to compete against the majority of SEC teams.
Wide receiver Kalija Lipscomb hauled in 87 passes last year and tight end Jared Pinkney
caught 50 to lead a strong receiving corps...unfortunately for them, the Commodores will
be breaking in a new quarterback. Another losing season for Mason and the Dores.

ESPN's Tom Luginbill made an appearance on Birmingham based 94.5 FM radio recently
and had this to say about the Auburn Tigers. "I happen to think top to bottom as a foot-
ball team, particularly on the defensive side of the ball...and also offensively with some
of the weapons they have coming back, which is virtually everybody, that this may be the
best top to bottom team Gus Malzahn has had." Luginbill suggested this year's Auburn roster
is more talented than the one who played for the national championship in 2013. He also
noted Auburn's schedule will be brutal this season.
