Auburn's Rhett Lashlee (31) will be a head coach within the next three years if not sooner.

He's a smart young coach who has learned under Malzahn during his career.

Might start at mid-major but you never know in the coaching business.

Agree. He's had an amazing career. Although likely to go to a mid-major, schools like Vandy, Kentucky, Wake Forest, Purdue, Texas Tech, etc would be smart to take a (small) risk on a coach like this. Having followed Malzahn his whole career (10 years or so) you'd think he'd be ready, especially having been in the SEC.

#‎UF‬ announces ‪#‎Gators‬ OL Rod Johnson has been diagnosed with congenital cervical stenosis, a career-ending injury.

This is big (bad) news for UF. The entire OL will be brand new starters. Basically what Tennessee did last year.

I expect no more than 7 wins. If UF wins 8 regular season games McElwain should win National Coach of the Year!

Sumlin and Strong want the UT/TaM series to continue:

http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsport...rong-sumlin-want-resumption-of-ut-am-rivalry/

In interviews with ESPN.com‘s Chris Low, the current head football coaches of the two programs did just that, stating their respective cases for a resumption of the in-state hostilities.

“That game is so much a part of this state,” said Longhorn coach Charlie Strong. “Over 100 years, we’ve played that game. Why stop it now because we’re in different conferences? At some point, when it’s right for everybody with the different schedules, I would love to play Texas A&M again.”

“It’s not about, ‘Is it important to me?'” Strong’s Aggie counterpart, Kevin Sumlin said. “It becomes, ‘What’s important to fans and former students and alums of Texas A&M and the University of Texas.’ That’s what matters.”

It's easy for the coaches to say this since they have little to no say about the game being renewed. We all know when they are asked this question they are only going to have one standard pat answer. You won't ever hear a coach say "hell no, we don't want to play them." This rivalry reminds me of the OU/OSU Beldam rivalry. The state's fans like it, but outside of the state nobody gives two shits about this game. Same with UT/TAM. The only reason I can think of why I would want it renewed is the loser of that game falls back a little in recruiting Texas.

This is what I call going all out for recruits. Arkansas is such a wanna be. Their fans actually think they are one of the bluebloods. But one thing I'll give them, they have a lot more enthusiasm for getting recruits than OU has right now.

Arkansas sends 15 letters to recruit's girlfriend

Arkansas seems to really want Caleb Roddy, a defensive end from Denham Springs, La.
Roddy is a Rivals three-star recruit in the class of 2016 who has offers from programs across the country, but the Razorbacks and coach Bret Bielema are going the extra mile. Arkansas’ coaches want Roddy to commit so badly that they sent 15 recruiting letters to his girlfriend on Monday.
That’s a pretty clever way for the Arkansas coaches to convey their interest in Roddy. The 6-foot-5, 248-pound recruit took a visit to Fayetteville last week and seemed to be impressed. Maybe reaching out to his girlfriend will put them over the top.
In addition to Arkansas, three other SEC programs – Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Tennessee – have offered Roddy a scholarship, according to Rivals. Additionally, Roddy has offers from Arizona State, Illinois, North Carolina and San Diego State, among others.
Among strongside defensive ends in the 2016 class, Rivals ranks Roddy as the 21st-best overall. Additionally, Roddy is rated as the 19th-best 2016 prospect in Louisiana.

Tennesee Coaches Get Raises

Wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni and running backs coach Robert Gillespie earned the biggest bumps – $50,000 apiece – but both still rank on the low end of the staff at $350,000 a year. (Think about that statement for a moment.) Azzanni earned a promotion to passing game coordinator following the departure of offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the hiring of Mike DeBord as his replacement. Gillespie replaces Azzanni as the Vols’ recruiting coordinator. Both coaches also received a contract extension through the 2016 season.

Bajakian’s departure also means defensive coordinator John Jancek, he of a $40,000 raise, is now Tennessee’s highest-paid assistant at $515,000 a year, just outpacing DeBord’s $500,000 salary.

“Coach Gillespie is doing a tremendous job with the recruiting aspect of things and the overall organization and really the focus and the details that’s required day to day,” Jones told the Chattanooga Times Free Press. “Coach Azzanni’s done a great job with the passing game. He’s worked hand in hand with Coach DeBord.

Defensive line coach Steve Stripling follows at $405,000 a year, then linebackers coach Tommy Thigpen ($400,000), defensive backs coach Willie Martinez ($375,000), offensive line coach Don Mahoney ($360,000) and then special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Mark Elder at $240,000 a year.

All told, Jones’ assistants will earn $3.495 million before incentives in 2015. Jones also received a $650,000 raise up from the reported $2.96 million he made in 2014.

I'd love to see him in Gainesville!

Can't believe one of those QBs hasn't transferred (or announced it) yet.

Waiting to hear where the ND OL is going (a 5th year Senior w/ immediate eligibility). UF would be a logical choice (w/ 5 open spots).

I haven't heard that RT and don't like the sound of it. Alabama needs to recruit good quarterbacks and coach them to be good players. Anymore of this transfer in silliness will kill any good recruit wanting to come to Alabama. Hell, Bama has three quarterbacks who could start in the SEC with other teams. This savior transfer QB crap is getting a bit old.

One of the highest paid coaching staffs in all college football and they can't find a QB among that group...then something is wrong down there in Tuscaloosa.

every qb we've started has been recruited, not transfer, so not sure why you think they have changed the formula? the issue is that jake coker isn't doing very well so do you 1) go with a first time starter like Cornwell (who is performing well) or 2) bring in a 1-year solution?

I don't understand why Miller is still considering a transfer when he could have joined a program in January because he already graduated. At this point he's looking at a month or two to learn a new system instead of a solid 8 months of studying

while A-Day never makes or breaks a kid's shot at starting QB there is no doubt all eyes are on the QB's tomorrow. I remember when AJ/Sims were the big item and while neither had a particularly good A-Day seeing Sims launch 100 mph fast balls 10-20 yards away from the intended receiver was certainly foreshadowing his college future. Should be interesting....

I agree roll tide...can't believe that no one left and didn't enroll some place in January...no matter what system it's tough to pick up on such short notice....back in dec I heard Braxton was thinking of a few schools as wvu, lsu, bans.

Agree on Miller. Not sure what he's thinking. But he's not likely the starter if he stays at Ohio Community College.

Coach, here is an article about Florida that my buddy Pezgordo wrote on our website

http://www.saturdayedge.com/22427/2015-florida-gators-better-worse-or-about-the-same/

The Florida O will struggle this year due to a young/shitty OL. But at least it will have direction and an identity. We know where McElwain is going w/ the O. He just needs a few more pieces (mostly on the OL) and a QB to emerge. Again, I don't think most reasonable Gator fans expect much in 2015. 2016 is a different story.

On another note; a bone head redshirt freshman DB just got arrested at UF for being involved in a robbery. JC Jackson, a 4-star DB, was expected to a part of a strong DB rotation. I suspect he's done in Gainesville.

Here is another article from my website on the five best SEC defenses this season. Kevin is one of our SEC specialists and he knows his stuff. There is a link within a link down at the bottom of the page that you can go to see the 5 best D's.

http://www.saturdayedge.com/22470/the-secs-top-5-defenses-for-2015/

GS, tell us more about that blog (not saturdayedge, but the other one).

I think UF's D will be top 5. There's too much talent...especially along the DL. Florida's DL will be outstanding. With Randy Shannon and Collins leading the way, I think it's a wash w/ Durkin & Muschamp.

LSU

Coming off an 8-5 record last season, the Tigers football team is hoping to rebound from a not-so-familiar finish. And with a non-conference slate made up of McNeese State, Syracuse, Eastern Michigan and Western Kentucky, the Tigers shouldn't find any challenges outside the SEC stretch run which includes games against the rest of the SEC West, a road trip to South Carolina and a home game against Florida. Key games look to be at Mississippi State (Sept. 12), at Alabama (Nov.7) and home game against Texas A&M (Nov 28). The A&M game will be the last game of the regular season and the return of former LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis who moved to College Station.

Entire Schedule:

McNeese State, @ Mississippi State, Auburn, @ Syracuse, Eastern Michigan, @ South Carolina, Florida, Western Kentucky, @ Alabama, Arkansas, @ Ole Miss, Texas A&M
