I'll gladly take the points with the Huskies in Saturday's Final Four matchup. Connecticut beat Florida during the regular season 65-64 and will have the best player on the floor in Shabazz Napier, who is averaging 23.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2 steals in the Huskies four tournament games. It's not just Napier the Gators have to be worried about, DeAndre Daniels and Ryan Boatright combined are averaging 30.8 points and 9.8 rebounds. I think Connecticut is going to surprise a lot of people with how well they score the basketball against Florida. The biggest key to why I like the Huskies is the defense of Napier and Boatright, who I believe will make life miserable for SEC Player of the Year Scottie Wilbekin. In the regular season matchup, Wilbekin had 15 points, but was just 6 of 14 from the field with just two assists to three turnovers. Keep in mind that Wilbekin is the only player for Florida that's averaging more than 10.5 points/game. Connecticut is 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games away from home 15+ games into the season against teams who are outscoring their opponents by 8+ points/game. They are also a perfect 7-0 ATS in their last 7 contest 15+ games in against teams who are outrebounding their opponents by 4+ rebounds. We also see that the Huskies are 19-8 ATS in their last 27 when listed as an underdog or pick on a neutral setting and 8-1 ATS in their last 9 games as an underdog overall. Florida on the other hand is just 1-7 ATS in their last 8 when they come in having covered the spread in 2 of their last 3.

However, only one of these starters is still a true ace in every sense and that’s Jon Lester. The 30-year old southpaw has been a model of consistency during his career and he’s off to a great start in 2014. Despite taking two losses in his first two starts, Lester has posted a 2.51 ERA and 1.05 WHIP and looks to be in midseason form. On the other side is CC Sabathia, who still has the title of Yankees’ ace but he clearly doesn’t deserve it. Sabathia turned in the worst season of his career in 2013, with a robust 4.78 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. His velocity is way down and it hasn’t been pretty to start the season for Sabathia. He holds a 7.50 ERA and hasn’t made it past the sixth inning. The Yankee bullpen is a mess right now with the retirement of Mariano Rivera and David Robertson on the disabled list. With Sabathia’s struggles, the pen figures to get some decent work in this one and that could be trouble. The Red Sox also feature a better lineup than the Yanks with good balance from top to bottom. The Yankees bottom third is Triple-A quality and will definitely kill several rallies this season. Take the Red Sox as a small favorite.

LA Clippers come in with unstoppable scoring going on for them, easily scoring big points, mainly with Blake Griffin dropping 24 a night. The Clippers are so efficient, that with a few badly timed mistakes, especially with Chris Paul, pilfering balls they can blow you off the court, and I see the Clippers winning by double digits in game 1.

Tuesday MLB Bonus Play from Doc’s Sports Take #903 San Francisco Giants over Pittsburgh Pirates (Tuesday, 7:05pm EST) The San Francisco Giants are off to a great start to the 2014 season at 20-11 and there’s every reason to believe that they can continue this run. The Giants have been hitting the ball with authority. They are second in the NL in home runs and fifth in total runs scored. That’s impressive considering half of their games are in AT&T Park. There are no easy outs in the Giants lineup and even their pitchers can hit a little. That includes today’s starter Tim Hudson. Since coming to San Francisco, Hudson has been nothing short of wonderful. He enters Tuesday’s game 4-1 with a 2.17 ERA and 0.74 WHIP to go along with an eye-popping 31-2 K/BB ratio. Clearly he enjoys pitching on the West Coast. The Giants bullpen has also been amazing with a 1.86 ERA and several reliable arms to call on. I think we can count on Hudson to go seven innings and turn it over to a couple of relievers to shut it down. The Pirates are off to a slow start at 12-19 and injuries have played a part. Catcher Russell Martin is currently on the disabled list and he is one of the leaders on this team offensively and defensively. They’re also without closer Jason Grilli, who was as close to automatic as you could get last season. I think this Pirates team will eventually get back on track because they have too much talent not to. However, they’re going to need to be 100% healthy and get some better production from the starting rotation. Charlie Morton has really struggled in the first month and he doesn’t quite look right on the mound. I expect the Giants to continue their hot-hitting ways against Morton and earn the win in this one. Monster card coming on Tuesday with MLB, NHL, and NBA action.
