The Oilers saw a lot of positive changes in the offseason, and they are clearly the better team in this matchup. They moved to the Pacific Division, and had several administrative changes take place. For starters, they have former vice president of hockey operations and one-time coach, Craig MacTavish as their new general manager. They also have a new head coach with Dallas Eakins. Eakins was coach of the AHL's Toronto Marlies, and developed several quality players for the Maple Leafs. The Winnipeg Jets have not reached the postseason since 2007, and they did nothing in the offseason to improve the team enough to get there again. The Jets were the worst team in the NHL on the power play, with a 13.8% conversion rate. They were also 24th on the penalty kill at 79.7% last season. The Oilers have won five of the last seven meetings between these teams, including a 5-3 victory last year in February. With all the moves made in the offseason, they should have no problem improving to 6-2 in the series against the Jets.

Neither of these teams are expected to do much again this season. The Jets added Devin Setoguchi and Michael Frolick for depth. The Jets also move from the Southeast Division over to the new Central Division of the Western Conference. The competition will be tough for the Jets with the likes of Chicago, St Louis and Dallas occupying this division. Winnipege was just 1-4-3 in the preseason, so that's not a good omen for them. They also allowed 27 goals in the preseason, most in the Conference. Edmonton added David Perron and defenseman Andrew Ference in the offseason. Unlike Winnipeg, the Oilers had a very good preseason, going 5-2-1 and scoring the most goals in the division (26). Don't expect this to carry over much to the regular season, but the Oilers could be entertaining this year. To start the season, I like the OVER here. Edmonton is the better team to start the season, but Winnipeg just gives up too many goals. Lets go OVER as your Bonus Play to start the NHL season!

The Huskies had 313 yds (136 rushing), Stanford had 235 (65 rushing) as Washington played a super defensive game. Stanford has one of the top defenses in the country, a powerhouse unit. They are a run-oriented offense behind sophomore QB Kevin Hogan (10 TDs, 4 INTs) behind a strong offensive line with senior RB Anthony Wilkerson (191) and Tyler Gaffney (377, 5.6 ypc). Stanford was the nation's No. 3 ranked run defense in 2012 and led the nation in sacks returning junior DE Henry Anderson and senior Ben Gardner. Play Washington/Stanford under the total.

ESPN College Gameday at Northwestern? Why not! They were 3 losses and 7 points total away from being undefeated last year and Ohio State was undefeated last year! Yes the Wildcats will be fired up for this one as both teams enter undefeated, but one team is better and favored in this game, and that is the Buckeyes, but there is a big spread here to contend with. Ohio State has won the last 4 in this series and covering by 24 ppg. Ohio State’s QB Braxton Miller came back from injury and looked solid going an efficient 17 / 25 for 198 yards and 4 TDs against a decent Wisconsin defense, a defense that is better than Northwestern’s.
Northwestern off a bye week, and although playing at home, you will see plenty of OSU fans in the bleachers on Saturday night in this national TV Game. One thing about Northwestern is that their offense works, even with 2 QBs inserted at various times during the game, and their rapid pace on offense puts a ton of stress on any defense and with a bye week to get ready, you can bet coach Fitzgerald will throw everything he has in the playbook at Ohio State this Saturday. The Buckeyes gave up 399 Yards to a vanilla offense of Wisconsin last week and 4 TD’s, that bodes well for Northwestern who WILL put up points in this game.
All in all, these David versus Goliath games are always a treat to watch, especially in a shootout scenario which I think it will be. Ohio State was tested last week by a good team at home, and they will be again this week, without the luxury of being at home. Look for a tight one, and one of the more entertaining games of the day, and the Wildcats rarely go down without a fight. This is a big step up in class for NW based on who they have played, but I think with added time to prepare and a national spotlight, they will be ready to challenge and compete at a high level and give Ohio State a game for 4 quarters unless the wheels fall off, they can score on anyone.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have been one of the most undervalued teams in baseball this season. Their pitching rotation is stacked with talent, and they will send a red hot Charlie Morton to the mound today. In his last three starts Morton has a 1.86 ERA and a 0.983 WHIP. His overall numbers at home this season are not far behind, posting a 2.85 ERA and a 1.174 WHIP. Run support should not be an issue as the Pirates are batting .265 in the playoffs and scoring an average of 4.7 runs per game. The Cardinal's offense is struggling to get hits in the post season. They have a .222 batting average and find themselves in a tough spot being down 2-1 in the series, and playing on the road tonight. They will sent Michael Wacha to the mound, and I think he will buckle under the pressure of starting in such an important postseason game. The offense boasts the 6th ranked running game in the NFL, averaging 140.2 YPG on the ground behind Gore, Kaepernick, and Hunter. Arizona's run-defense has been good statistically but they really haven't faced a true ground game yet. Kaepernick's numbers are good…21of-38, 280 YP, and 3 TDs, but most-importantly, 0 INTs. The QB doesn't make costly mistakes. The Arizona LB corps will go after Kaepernick but this will allow the QB to do what he does best, come out of the pocket and create plays. Arizona is posting a mere 18.2 PPG. Carson Palmer has thrown for 1185 yards but has only a 58.9% CR and more INTs (9) than TDs (5). Without a true rushing attack, the Cardinals offense will be overwhelmed by the #2 ranked pass "D" of SF. The 49ers won both meetings last season by a combined, 51-14. Arizona is 2-7 ATS their L9 games played vs. the 49ers and 2-8-1 ATS their L11 games played in October. The Yellow Jackets are off a convincing win at Syracuse where they hammered the Orangemen 56-0 last week, while Virginia was still trying to figure out how to mount an offense against a suspect Duke team who won at Virginia by 13 points. The number in this game is just a little bit more than 10 points with the visiting Yellow Jackets this weekend laying double digits. Georgia Tech has the 4th ranked rushing offense in the NCAA at over 300 yards a game this season and also has a very stout defense ranked 17th in points allowed. Is Georgia Tech going to look past Virginia, they have Pitt next week and that game has no history, so I do not see GT slowing down. With a fast paced offense and a solid defense, they are no way that Virginia who is a deplorable cover team covering just 5 out of their last 21 games and who gave up 421 yards last year to the triple option attack of GT.
With defensive numbers like Georgia Tech as, and offensive numbers like they have, their limited ability to pass the ball hampers them little in this game, and I see a score similar to last year’s blowout in Atlanta which was 56-20. Lay the points in this one and do not break a sweat. These yellow jackets should have some serious sting this weekend.

The Beavers have a very good home field advantage in Corvallis. Stanford is coming off to consecutive huge games in a row. Can they give max effort for a third straight game? I like the value on the home dog here.
