Milwaukee vs. Arizona
Play: Milwaukee +112

Patrick Corbin has been nothing short of disastrous his last seven starts and it says something about the Arizona pitching staff that he's still in the rotation. The Diamondbacks are mired in last place and they have lost Corbin's last five starts by a combined score of 52-20. Corbin is 0-7 with a 6.91 ERA at home and he allowed four runs and six hits in five innings against Milwaukee this season. The Brewers have won Matt Garza's last two starts as he finally seems to have turned it around after starting the season on the disabled list. Garza gave up four earned runs in 11 innings in the two wins while walking three. Milwaukee has won its last four games against left-handed starters and the Diamondbacks have lost 38 of their last 54 home games, including 16 of Corbin's last 21 home starts.

Texas Rangers at Houston Astros
Pick: Houston Astros

The Astros got a great effort from the struggling Dallas Keuchel last night, as last year’s Cy Young winner in the AL shut out the Rangers 5-0. Houston needed a jolt, as they entered last night’s contest having lost NINE of 10 against the Rangers in 2016. Th victory brought Houston with 5 1/2 games of Texas in the AL West and the Astros also trail in the AL wild card race by 3 1/2 games. Doug Fister (10-7, 3.56 ERA) returns from the paternity list to make this start for Houston, while the Rangers (63-47) counter with Lucas Harrell (3-2, 3.57 ERA in 2016, pitching for both the Braves and Rangers). It marks his second start with Texas and first career appearance against the Astros.

Harrell was victorious in his Texas debut, allowing three runs on four hits in six innings against Kansas City. The best season of this 31-year-old’s career came as a member of the Astros in 2012, when he went 11-11 with a 3.76 ERA in 32 starts. Harrell owns a 9-14 record (4.12 ERA) in 36 career appearances (29 starts) at Minute Maid Park. Fister’s W-L record is 10-7 but the team has won all four of his no decisions, making him 14-7, plus-$812 vs the moneyline (that ranks 12th-best among all starters). Texas could be a VERY dangerous team when trade deadline acquisitions Carlos Beltran and Jonathan Lucroy hit their stride, so Houston had better make up some ground in this series.

Last night was a good way to start and my bet here says Fister will do his part. Injuries limited him to 15 starts last year but in 2013 (Det) and 2014 (Was) he went a combined 30-15, with his teams going 36-21 in all of his starts. Houston (with Fister) is the play.

Preview: Indians at Yankees

GAME: Cleveland Indians (61-46) at New York Yankees (55-54)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, August 06 - 1:05 PM EST
WHERE: Yankee Stadium, Bronx, New York
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Cleveland Indians have risen to the top of the American League Central due in large part to their quality pitching, but the New York Yankees have appeared unfazed in their matchups. The Yankees look to continue their offensive success against the visiting Indians when the teams continue a three-game series in the Bronx on Saturday.

Starlin Castro had a grand slam and Jacoby Ellsbury led a 16-hit attack with four hits as New York rolled to a 13-7 victory in the series opener Friday night. That result, which came hours after Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira announced he would retire at season's end, gave the Yankees a 4-1 record against the Tribe and an average of 7.6 runs in those five encounters. It also chopped Cleveland's lead in the Central to two games over Detroit. The Indians will try to stop the bleeding with staff leader Corey Kluber - who dominated the Yankees in Cleveland's only win against New York this season - on the mound opposite CC Sabathia.

TV: 1:05 p.m. ET, MLB Network, SportsTime Ohio (Cleveland), YES (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Indians RH Corey Kluber (10-8, 3.27 ERA) vs. Yankees LH CC Sabathia (6-8, 4.15)

Kluber limited the Yankees to one run and five hits in eight dominant innings to pick up a win on July 8. That started a four-start stretch in which the former Cy Young Award winner has gone 2-0 with a 1.24 ERA, lasting at least seven innings each time out. The top two hitters in New York's standard lineup - Brett Gardner and Ellsbury - are a combined 7-for-20 against Kluber, who is 2-1 with a 2.16 ERA in four career starts versus the Yankees.

Sabathia has given up five runs or more in six of his last eight starts after surrendering five and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings of a no-decision against the New York Mets his last time out. He also allowed five runs in 5 2/3 frames at Cleveland last month and is 4-2 with a 3.55 ERA in 10 career encounters with the team that drafted him in the first round 18 years ago. Designated hitter Carlos Santana is 7-for-18 with a homer against Sabathia while shortstop Francisco Lindor is 4-for-6.

WALK-OFFS

1. Ellsbury is 10-for-22 with five runs scored in five games this month.

2. Indians 1B Mike Napoli has a hit and a run in seven straight games and has recorded at least one RBI in six of those contests.

3. Teixeira is 5-for-11 with three extra-base hits and six walks during a four-game hitting streak.

Preview: Red Sox at Dodgers

GAME: Boston Red Sox (60-48) at Los Angeles Dodgers (60-49)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, August 06 - 4:05 PM EST
WHERE: Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Mookie Betts was the American League Player of the Month for July, and the Boston Red Sox right fielder looks intent on having another stellar month in August. Betts is 9-for-23 with two homers and three doubles over five games and aims to remain hot when Boston visits the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday for the middle contest of their three-game series.

Betts was 3-for-5 with a home run as the Red Sox routed the Dodgers 9-0 on Friday to remain two games behind first-place Baltimore in the American League East and one-half game ahead of Detroit for the second wild-card spot. Sandy Leon was 2-for-3 with a homer and four RBIs and is batting a torrid .374 in 107 at-bats. The Dodgers, who have lost three of their last four contests, are two games behind first-place San Francisco in the National League West and own the first wild card by two games over Miami and St. Louis. The slumping Chase Utley is 1-for-12 over his last three games and hasn't recorded a multi-hit performance since July 19.

TV: 4:05 p.m. ET, FS1, NESN (Boston), SportsNet LA (Los Angeles)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox LH Eduardo Rodriguez (2-4, 5.91 ERA) vs. Dodgers RH Ross Stripling (2-3, 4.14)

Rodriguez pitched well in a no-decision against Seattle in his last turn as he gave up one run and three hits in 6 1/3 innings. He has posted a 2.63 ERA in four starts since returning from the minors and gave up one run in two of the outings. Rodriguez is 2-1 with a 5.74 ERA in five road starts this season.

Stripling rejoined the team from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday and will be activated prior to Saturday's game. He has just one victory in eight big-league starts but has served up just three homers in 54 1/3 innings. Stripling is 1-2 with a 5.20 ERA in six appearances (four starts) at Dodger Stadium.

WALK-OFFS

1. Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia (left shin) departed Friday's game in the fourth inning and is day-to-day while 1B Hanley Ramirez (wrist) will sit out his fourth consecutive game on Saturday, with Boston manager John Farrell indicating that David Ortiz will draw a rare start at first base.

2. Los Angeles RF Josh Reddick is hitless in 12 at-bats since being acquired from Oakland on Monday.

3. Boston claimed Bryan Holaday (.238 in 30 games this season) off waivers from Texas on Friday - one day after fellow C Ryan Hanigan (ankle) was injured.

GAME: Chicago Cubs (67-41) at Oakland Athletics (48-61)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, August 06 - 4:05 PM EST
WHERE: Oakland Coliseum, Oakland, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The major league-leading Chicago Cubs attempt to extend their winning streak to six games when they visit the Oakland Athletics on Saturday afternoon for the middle contest of their three-game interleague set. Chicago, which owns the league's best record at 67-41, has won eight of its last nine contests after rolling to a 7-2 triumph in the series opener.

Dexter Fowler opened the game with his ninth homer of the season and Jorge Soler returned from a two-month stint on the disabled list because of a strained hamstring to cap the four-run first inning with a three-run blast. Fowler is riding a five-game hitting streak and has driven in a run in four straight contests. Oakland began its 10-game homestand with its sixth defeat in seven overall games. Brett Eibner was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Friday and belted a solo home run in his first appearance with the Athletics since being acquired from Kansas City for Billy Burns on July 30.

TV: 4:05 p.m. ET, CSN Chicago, CSN California (Oakland)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cubs RH Jake Arrieta (12-5, 2.75 ERA) vs. Athletics RH Sonny Gray (5-10, 5.84)

Arrieta looks to snap a winless streak that reached five starts last Saturday when he suffered his third loss during the drought despite allowing only two runs and two hits over seven innings against Seattle. The 30-year-old native of Missouri uncharacteristically surrendered four or more runs in four of his previous five outings while failing to work more than six innings in six of his last eight turns. Arrieta has yet to defeat Oakland in his career, going 0-2 with a 4.61 ERA in three games (two starts).

Gray is coming off one of his shortest starts of the season, a 3 1/3-inning effort in which he was tagged for seven runs and eight hits en route to a loss at Cleveland. The 26-year-old from Nashville has lost nine of his last 11 decisions and been pounded for seven runs three times over his last six outings. Gray, who never has faced Chicago, is 3-5 with a 5.98 ERA in 10 starts at home this season.

WALK-OFFS

1. To make room on the roster for Soler, the Cubs designated RHP Joe Nathan for assignment.

2. The Athletics placed INF Jed Lowrie (toe) and RHP Jesse Hahn (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list while recalling Eibner and RHP Andrew Triggs from Nashville.

3. Chicago has drawn at least five walks in eight games since the All-Star break, winning all eight.

Preview: Twins at Rays

GAME: Minnesota Twins (44-65) at Tampa Bay Rays (44-64)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, August 06 - 6:10 PM EST
WHERE: Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Florida
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Eddie Rosario is enjoying quite the summer after sputtering through the first two months of the season. The 24-year-old looks to continue both a solid start to August and his good fortune versus Tampa Bay on Saturday as the Minnesota Twins vie a series victory over the host Rays.

Rosario belted a pinch-hit, two-run blast in Friday's 6-2 triumph over Tampa Bay to improve to 8-for-16 with two homers, six RBIs and five runs scored in the new month. His performance versus the Rays hasn't been too shabby either, as Rosario is 8-for-20 with two homers and four RBIs in seven career encounters and 2-for-5 versus Saturday starter Chris Archer. While cellar-dwelling Minnesota is heating up with wins in seven of its last nine games, Tampa Bay's Brad Miller is scorching hot with homers in three straight contests and five of his last seven. Evan Longoria, on the other hand, is mired in an ice-cold 2-for-26 stretch with 11 strikeouts.

TV: 6:10 p.m. ET, FSN North (Minnesota), FSN Sun (Tampa Bay)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Twins RH Jose Berrios (2-1, 8.57 ERA) vs. Rays RH Chris Archer (5-15, 4.38)

Berrios made a strong statement in his first outing since being recalled from Triple-A Rochester, overcoming a troubling start out of the blocks to allow three runs on five hits in a career-best six innings in a 12-5 victory at Cleveland on Monday. The performance shaved more than a run-and-a-half off the 22-year-old Puerto Rican's bloated ERA from his previous four major-league starts. Berrios was also better about his control, as he did not permit a walk after yielding 10 in his three May outings.

Archer's hard-luck season continued as the 27-year-old dropped his second straight decision and eighth in 10 outings on Monday despite yielding three runs in 7 1/3 innings of a 3-0 setback versus Kansas City. Archer, who leads majors with 15 losses, has pitched better than his 1-8 mark at The Trop would indicate -- he owns a solid 3.03 ERA while limiting the opposition to just a .216 batting average. Archer has found success versus Minnesota, against which he is 4-1 with a 1.78 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in his career.

WALK-OFFS

1. Minnesota 1B Joe Mauer, who had a two-run double among his two hits on Friday, has reached base safely in 20 straight games versus Tampa Bay.

2. Rays 2B Logan Forsythe has followed an 0-for-11 stretch to end July by going 7-for-15 with six runs scored in August.

3. Twins DH Miguel Sano is 7-for-18 with two homers in four career contests against Tampa Bay.

GAME: Cincinnati Reds (44-64) at Pittsburgh Pirates (54-53)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, August 06 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: PNC Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Ivan Nova will make his first start in the National League when the Pittsburgh Pirates host the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday in the middle contest of a three-game set. In danger of falling below .500, the Pirates conjured up some late-inning magic when Sean Rodriguez belted a walk-off homer to lead off the ninth in the series-opening 3-2 victory.

Returning home after stumbling through a 1-5 road trip, Pittsburgh needed the jolt supplied by Rodriguez after new closer Tony Watson blew the save opportunity. Nova was acquired from the New York Yankees in the frenzied final minutes before the trade deadline that also saw the Pirates ship out left-handers Francisco Liriano and Jon Niese. Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips is 7-for-11 with four RBIs and four runs scored in his last three games. Cincinnati, which has won all six series since the All-Star break, will be looking to avoid back-to-back losses for the first time since dropping three in a row from July 8-10.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FSN Ohio (Cincinnati), ROOT (Pittsburgh)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Reds RH Homer Bailey (1-0, 3.18 ERA) vs. Pirates RH Iván Nova (7-6, 4.90)

Sidelined for more than 14 months following Tommy John surgery, Bailey made a victorious return to the mound by limiting San Diego to two runs and four hits over 5 2/3 innings. "He was really crisp," Reds manager Bryan Price said of Bailey after the game. "I couldn't be happier after his first start." Bailey is 8-5 with a 3.28 ERA versus the Pirates, but slumping Andrew McCutchen is 13-for-43 with 11 walks against him.

Nova lasted only 4 1/3 innings in his final start with the Yankees, giving up five runs on six hits, including a pair of home runs. The 29-year-old Nova continues to struggle with the long ball, surrendering at least one home run in 14 of his last 15 appearances while pitching beyond six innings only three times in that span. Nova has split a pair of decisions versus the Reds, giving up six runs over 14 innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. McCutchen returned to the lineup after a three-game benching and was hitless in two at-bats to fall to 1-for-14 in his last four games.

2. Reds 1B Joey Votto, who has hit safely in 18 of his last 19 games overall, is a .315 hitter in 67 contests at PNC Park.

3. Pirates RF Gregory Polanco was not in the starting lineup Friday due to left shoulder discomfort, but he drew a pinch-hit walk.

GAME: San Francisco Giants (62-47) at Washington Nationals (65-44)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, August 06 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Nationals Park, Washington, District of Columbia
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Stephen Strasburg will be bidding to become the first 16-game winner in the major leagues when the surging Washington Nationals continue their three-game series against the visiting San Francisco Giants on Saturday night. Washington ran its winning streak to four games with a 5-1 win over the Giants on Friday in the opener of an eight-game homestand.

Strasburg was named the National League Pitcher of the Month for July amid a spellbinding seven-start stretch in which he has permitted one run or fewer on six occasions. Trea Turner has homered in back-to-back contests and is 7-for-21 with five RBIs and six runs scored during a four-game hitting streak while Jayson Werth has reached base in 36 consecutive games for the Nationals, tying Miami's Marcell Ozuna for the longest run this season. Angel Pagan's solo homer was one of four hits in the series opener for San Francisco, which has seen its lead atop the NL West dwindle after going 5-14 overall and 2-10 on the road since the All-Star break. Matt Cain, who beat Washington last weekend, seeks his first victory away from home when he opposes Strasburg.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, CSN Bay Area (San Francisco), MASN (Washington)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants RH Matt Cain (3-6, 5.53 ERA) vs. Nationals RH Stephen Strasburg (15-1, 2.63)

Cain won his second straight start by holding the Nationals hitless over five innings on Sunday, but he walked four batters and exited the game after throwing 93 pitches. Cain had struggled in his previous two turns after coming off the disabled list, giving up a combined nine runs and five homers. Werth is 5-for-8 with a home run against Cain, who owns a career 6-5 mark and 3.46 ERA against the Nationals.

Strasburg rebounded from his lone loss of the season with his second straight superb outing, giving up one run on three hits over six innings to match his career high with his 15th victory. Strasburg is 5-1 over his last six starts and has permitted a remarkable total of three hits or fewer in each of the victories. Buster Posey is 7-for-18 versus Strasburg, who is 3-1 with a 2.79 ERA against San Francisco.

WALK-OFFS

1. Nationals C Wilson Ramos, who set a career high with his 17th homer Friday, has seven RBIs over his last three games.

2. Giants 3B Eduardo Nunez is hitless in 14 at-bats and 2-for-20 since he was acquired at the trade deadline

3. Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman missed his fourth straight game with a bone bruise on his left wrist.

GAME: Baltimore Orioles (62-46) at Chicago White Sox (52-57)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, August 06 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: U.S. Cellular Field, Chicago, Illinois
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Pedro Alvarez has been flexing his muscle over the last week and the Baltimore Orioles are benefiting from the power display. With six homers in his last five contests, Alvarez looks to continue his torrid hitting on Saturday as the American League East-leading Orioles attempt to secure a series victory against the host Chicago White Sox.

Alvarez belted a pair of solo homers in Friday's 7-5 win to improve to 13-for-28 with seven RBIs and as many runs scored in his last seven contests. Baltimore has answered a five-game skid by winning four of its last five games while Chicago has dropped seven of nine to fall to 7-14 since the All-Star break. Jose Abreu has gone deep in back-to-back contests on the heels of a homerless drought of 32 contests. The 29-year-old Cuban is 23-for-68 in 17 career games versus the Orioles and 3-for-5 with a blast against Saturday starter Chris Tillman.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, MASN2 (Baltimore), WGN (Chicago)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Orioles RH Chris Tillman (14-3, 3.46 ERA) vs. White Sox LH Carlos Rodon (2-8, 4.67)

Tillman settled for a no-decision on Sunday despite allowing two runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings at Toronto. The 28-year-old received the same fate in his last outing versus Chicago, against which he is 3-1 with a 3.29 ERA in five career outings. Baltimore owns a 19-4 mark in 23 starts this season by Tillman, who has permitted just two runs or fewer in five of his last six trips to the mound.

A near four-week absence on the disabled list did nothing to alter the fortunes of Rodon, who yielded five earned runs in 6 1/3 innings of a 6-4 setback at Minnesota. Baltimore has taken to task the 23-year-old, who is 0-2 with 10 runs yielded on 12 hits in 13 innings in three outings. Rodon's struggles to keep the ball in the park have underscored a tumultuous season, as he has allowed two homers in each of his last three trips to the mound.

WALK-OFFS

1. Chicago LF Melky Cabrera is 2-for-19 in his last four games overall and 4-for-22 versus Baltimore this season.

2. Orioles CF Adam Jones is 8-for-19 with two doubles and three RBIs versus the White Sox in 2016.

3. Chicago DH Avisail Garcia has three homers, six RBIs and four runs scored in his last four games.

GAME: New York Mets (56-53) at Detroit Tigers (60-49)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, August 06 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Comerica Park, Detroit, Michigan
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

A pair of teams going to opposite directions continue a three-game series Saturday night when the hard-charging Detroit Tigers play host to the fading New York Mets. Detroit has vaulted back into contention in the American League Central, cutting first-place Cleveland's lead to two games following Friday's 4-3 victory over the Mets.

Designated hitter Victor Martinez clubbed a go-ahead two-run homer Friday to power the Tigers to their ninth win in 10 games. Miguel Cabrera has hit safely in five straight and nine of his last 10 games, amassing six homers and 14 RBIs in that span. New York has dropped seven of its last 10 to fall nine games behind division-leading Washington in the National League East. Kelly Johnson has homered in back-to-back games for the Mets, who are two back of the second wild card.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, SNY (New York), FSN Detroit

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets RH Logan Verrett (3-6, 4.20 ERA) vs. Tigers LH Matt Boyd (2-2, 4.71)

Verrett has gone more than three months without a victory but has routinely put his team in position to win after injuries forced his transition from the bullpen to the rotation. He wound up with his fourth straight no-decision last time out, giving up three runs on four hits over five innings. Making his first appearance against the Tigers, Verrett has yielded three runs or fewer in each of the last four turns.

Boyd's rotation spot has been a subject of widespread speculation, but he's managed to maintain his starting slot by going unbeaten in four trips to the mound last month. Pitching deep into games has been an issue for Boyd, who went five innings and allowed three runs on four hits to beat Houston last time out. The 25-year-old has been solid at Comerica Park with a 2-1 record and 2.63 ERA in five appearances (four starts).

WALK-OFFS

1. Tigers C James McCann has 11 RBIs over his last eight games.

2. Mets 2B Neil Walker is 8-for-17 during a four-game winning streak.

3. Tigers CF Cameron Maybin sat out his second straight game due to a sore left thumb.

DATE/TIME: Saturday, August 06 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Minute Maid Park, Houston, Texas
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Houston Astros picked up a rare victory over Texas in the series opener and look to make up more ground in the American League West race when they host the Rangers on Saturday. Houston began the three-game set Friday with a 5-0 triumph to improve to 2-9 against Texas this season.

Jose Altuve recorded two hits and two RBIs while Carlos Correa notched a two-run single in the opener to help the Astros win for only the second time in their last eight contests. Houston sits 5 1/2 games behind the Rangers in the division race and trails Boston by 3 1/2 for the AL's second wild card. Texas has lost three of its last four games and registered just three hits in the opener while being handcuffed by reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Dallas Keuchel. Shin-Soo Choo is 3-for-9 in two games since returning from the disabled list and is 10-for-31 with two homers against scheduled Astros starter Doug Fister.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FSN Southwest (Texas), ROOT (Houston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rangers RH Lucas Harrell (3-2, 3.57 ERA) vs. Astros RH Doug Fister (10-7, 3.56)

Harrell was victorious in his Texas debut as he gave up three runs and four hits in six innings against Kansas City. The 31-year-old had his best season as a member of the Astros in 2012, when he went 11-11 with a 3.76 ERA in 32 starts. Harrell, who is 2-1 with a 2.29 ERA in three career turns versus Houston, has a 9-14 record and 4.12 ERA in 36 career appearances (29 starts) at Minute Maid Park.

Fister settled for a no-decision in his last turn despite scattering four hits over six scoreless innings against Toronto. He hasn't allowed a run in two of his last three starts but was hammered for six and nine hits in 4 2/3 frames by the New York Yankees in the other outing. Fister defeated Texas on June 8, when he gave up one run and seven hits in six innings to improve to 5-5 with a 4.88 ERA in 12 career starts against the Rangers.

WALK-OFFS

1. Rangers LHP Derek Holland (shoulder) pitched two scoreless innings during a rehab stint at Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.

2. Houston DH/C Evan Gattis recorded three hits on Friday after going 2-for-16 with eight strikeouts in his first four games this month.

3. Texas 3B Adrian Beltre, who is homerless in his last 10 contests, is 10-for-29 against Fister.

GAME: Toronto Blue Jays (63-47) at Kansas City Royals (51-58)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, August 06 - 7:15 PM EST
WHERE: Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Toronto Blue Jays elected against shuffling Aaron Sanchez to the bullpen and kept the 24-year-old in a now six-man rotation as the club attempts to continue its pursuit of the penthouse in the American League East. Sanchez, who has worked a career-high 139 1/3 innings this season, will look to keep an unblemished road record intact on Saturday as the Blue Jays vie for their fifth straight win and a series victory versus the Kansas City Royals.

Devon Travis belted a pair of solo homers in Friday's 4-3 win for his fifth multi-hit performance in his last 10 games. While Toronto has emerged victorious in nine of its last 12 to remain a percentage point behind Baltimore atop the AL East, Kansas City is showing little resemblance to the team that ended the Blue Jays' season in the 2015 ALCS en route to winning the second World Series title in franchise history. The Royals have lost 11 of their last 14 overall and seven of nine at Kauffman Stadium. Alcides Escobar is struggling alongside his team as the leadoff hitter was hitless in five at-bats in the series opener and is 1-for-13 in his last three games.

TV: 7:15 p.m. ET, Sportsnet (Toronto), FSN Kansas City

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays RH Aaron Sanchez (11-1, 2.71 ERA) vs. Royals LH Danny Duffy (7-1, 2.98)

Sanchez settled for a no-decision on Sunday despite allowing two runs on four hits in seven innings against Baltimore. The promising hurler owns a 7-0 mark on the road and 8-1 performance at night this season while winning 10 straight decisions since recording his lone loss on April 22. Included in that dominant stretch is a stellar 6-2 victory against Kansas City on July 4, as he allowed one run on three hits in eight strong innings.

Duffy struck out a franchise-best 16 batters and took a no-hit bid into the eighth inning in a 3-0 victory over Tampa Bay on Monday. The 27-year-old has been sparkling at home (3-0), although his struggles versus Toronto leave plenty to be desired. Duffy is just 1-3 in his career against the Blue Jays and has yielded 16 runs on 23 hits and 17 walks in 20 2/3 innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Kansas City RF Lorenzo Cain had an RBI triple in the series opener to extend his hitting streak to four games and is 17-for-52 in 13 career contests versus Toronto.

2. Blue Jays DH Edwin Encarnacion is riding an eight-game hitting streak.

3. Royals LHP Jason Vargas, who had Tommy John surgery in July 2015, is slated to make his first rehab start Saturday for Surprise in the rookie-level Arizona League.

Preview: Braves at Cardinals

GAME: Atlanta Braves (39-70) at St. Louis Cardinals (58-51)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, August 06 - 7:15 PM EST
WHERE: Busch Stadium, St. Louis, Missouri
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The St. Louis Cardinals are struggling to score runs, but their minimum effort led them to a much-needed series-opening victory Friday against the Atlanta Braves. The Cardinals host the Braves on Saturday after claiming a 1-0 decision for their second victory in six games - a stretch during which they have scored only 15 runs.

The Cardinals are hoping Jaime Garcia set the tone for their struggling starting rotation after working eight innings on Friday and driving in the game’s only run. The Braves did get a 5 1/3-frame effort from Joel De La Cruz as their bullpen faces a potentially heavy workload in Saturday’s contest. Atlanta's Freddie Freeman is struggling, going 1-for-20 with 11 strikeouts over his last five games. Ender Inciarte extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a leadoff single in the first inning and has recorded at least one hit in 22 of his last 23 contests.

PITCHING MATCHUPS: Braves RH Roberto Hernandez (2015: 3-5, 4.36 ERA) vs. Cardinals RH Carlos Martinez (10-6, 2.99)

Atlanta turns to the journeyman Hernandez, who inked a minor-league contract on July 15 after being signed and released by Toronto twice since December. He struggled at Triple-A Gwinnett, allowing a .339 opponents’ batting average while giving up 21 hits in 14 2/3 innings. The 35-year-old Hernandez, who is 70-98 in 268 major-league appearances (217 starts), went 3-5 in 20 games (11 starts) with Houston last season.

The 24-year-old Martinez has shown last season’s performance (14-7, 3.01 ERA) was not a fluke, entering the weekend ranked eighth in the National League in WAR (3.6) while lowering his hits per nine innings from 8.4 to 7.4. His three-start winning streak ended with a no-decision Sunday at Miami as he allowed four runs and seven hits in seven innings. Martinez relies on a hard fastball/slider combination and holds opponents to a .173 average the first time through the batting order.

WALK-OFFS

1. Braves manager Brian Snitker told reporters before Friday’s game he expects RHP Julio Teheran, who is on the disabled list with a strained right lat muscle, to throw from flat ground on Saturday.

2. Cardinals 2B Matt Carpenter went 0-for-4 in his first game back from the disabled list.

3. Atlanta closer Jim Johnson is 2-1 with a 1.69 ERA and seven saves since coming off the disabled list on June 3.

GAME: Miami Marlins (58-51) at Colorado Rockies (54-55)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, August 06 - 8:10 PM EST
WHERE: Coors Field, Denver, Colorado
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

In their first game since a ninth-inning collapse, the Miami Marlins conjured up some ninth-inning magic to end a losing streak. The Marlins will look to build upon their comeback win when they continue a three-game series at the Colorado Rockies on Saturday night.

Miami's three-game slide included a 5-4 loss on a wild pitch at Wrigley Field on Wednesday and the club was staring at what would have been a season high-tying fourth straight defeat before rallying for four runs in the ninth and stealing a 5-3 win in the series opener. The rally allowed the Marlins to remain tied with St. Louis for the second wild card in the National League, four games ahead of the Rockies. Miami outfielder Ichiro Suzuki was hitless in one at-bat off the bench Friday night and he remains two hits shy of becoming the 30th player to reach 3,000 in his career. He has never faced Colorado starter Chad Bettis, who opposes Marlins newcomer Andrew Cashner in the middle game of the set.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, FSN Florida (Miami), ROOT (Colorado)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins RH Andrew Cashner (4-7, 4.54 ERA) vs. Rockies RH Chad Bettis (9-6, 5.16)

Cashner's debut with the Marlins was a good one, as he let up one earned run in six innings of a no-decision against St. Louis on Sunday. He has yielded six earned runs in 23 2/3 frames over a four-start span, although he has just one win to show for it. The 29-year-old left his last start at Coors Field after only one batter due to a an injury and he has a 6.94 ERA in eight career games (four starts) in Denver.

Bettis lasted between six innings and 6 2/3 innings in each of his six July starts, going 3-1 with a 3.55 ERA in that stretch. He tied a season high with eight strikeouts in a quality start at the New York Mets on Sunday. The Texas Tech product gave up three runs in one inning of relief against Miami in 2014, but he has never started against the Marlins.

WALK-OFFS

1. Marlins RHP Fernando Rodney has given up eight earned runs in 6 1/3 innings over his last seven appearances.

2. Rockies 2B DJ LeMahieu is 8-for-15 with four walks in his last four games.

3. Miami 3B Martin Prado, who had the go-ahead two-run single in the ninth inning Friday, is batting .353 in his last 24 games against Colorado.

GAME: Milwaukee Brewers (48-59) at Arizona Diamondbacks (44-65)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, August 06 - 8:10 PM EST
WHERE: Chase Field, Phoenix, Arizona
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Arizona Diamondbacks look to post back-to-back victories for the first time since mid-July when they host the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday for the middle contest of their three-game series. Arizona, which hasn't won consecutive games since July 16 and 17 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, halted its four-game losing streak with a 3-2 triumph in 11 innings on Friday.

Yasmany Tomas homered twice for the second time in nine contests while Welington Castillo drew a bases-loaded walk with one out in the 11th to plate Paul Goldschmidt with the winning run as the Diamondbacks won for just the fourth time in 16 games. After ending July with a four-game winning streak, Milwaukee has struggled in the early stages of August, losing three of the first four contests of its six-game road trip. The Brewers have not won a road series since before the All-Star break, losing two of three at Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and San Diego. Keon Broxton belted a solo homer as a pinch hitter Friday, and he has gone deep in three of his 15 hits in 2016.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee), FSN Arizona

PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Matt Garza (2-4, 5.32 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks LH Patrick Corbin (4-10, 5.30)

Garza halted his five-start winless streak Sunday, limiting Pittsburgh to two runs - one earned - and four hits over five innings for his first win in five decisions. The 32-year-old Californian has worked more than 5 2/3 innings just three times in nine outings this season and once in his last six turns. Garza is 5-2 with a 2.88 ERA in nine career games (eight starts) against Arizona, including a no-decision on July 26 in which he gave up three runs and five hits in six frames.

Corbin fell to 0-4 over his last seven starts when he yielded six runs - three earned - on eight hits and three walks in 5 1/3 innings of a loss to the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Sunday. The 27-year-old New Yorker hasn't won since holding the Blue Jays to two runs over 6 1/3 frames in Toronto on June 21 - the last time he gave up fewer than four runs. Corbin's career record against the Brewers remained at 2-2 as he escaped with a no-decision in Milwaukee on July 26 after yielding four runs on six hits and three walks in five innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Brewers SS Orlando Arcia notched his first hit in 11 major-league at-bats Friday, an RBI single in the fourth inning to forge a 1-1 tie.

2. Arizona RHP Zack Greinke (oblique) may return from the disabled list to start against the Mets in New York on Tuesday.

3. Milwaukee SS/3B Jonathan Villar has gone 6-for-11 over his last three games.

GAME: Philadelphia Phillies (51-60) at San Diego Padres (47-62)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, August 06 - 8:40 PM EST
WHERE: Petco Park, San Diego, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Philadelphia’s top pitching prospect, Jake Thompson, is set to make his major league debut Saturday as the visiting Phillies continue their three-game series against the San Diego Padres, but All-Star outfielder Odubel Herrera’s status remains unclear. Phillies manager Pete Mackanin has kept Herrera on the bench for three of the last four games, including Friday’s 5-4 victory.

Herrera is hitting .211 in 24 games since July 6 for the Phillies, who are 31-10 at Petco Park since it opened in 2004. “(Herrera) doesn't look like the same guy right now,” Mackanin told reporters. "I’m giving him a little bit of a reprieve here just to back off a little bit and maybe he'll come in and ask me how come he's not playing or maybe he’ll take advantage of the time off to clear his head and get back to where he was before.” The Phillies have won four of their first five games this season against San Diego, which is hoping to rebuild around promising young players such as center fielder Travis Jankowski, left fielder Alex Dickerson and first baseman Wil Myers. Jankowski is 9-for-19 during his five-game hitting streak and has sparked the Padres’ improved offense while serving as the team’s primary leadoff hitter.

TV: 8:40 p.m. ET, CSN Philadelphia, FSN San Diego

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH Jake Thompson (MLB debut) vs. Padres RH Paul Clemens (1-2, 4.70)

Thompson could receive an extended look in the rotation in place of Aaron Nola, who was placed on the disabled list Wednesday with a right elbow sprain. The 22-year-old has gone 11-5 with a 2.50 ERA in 21 starts for Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season, including 8-0 with a 1.21 ERA over his last 11 outings. Thompson was acquired from Texas in last July’s trade for Cole Hamels and has recorded a combined 2.32 ERA in 28 starts in the Phillies’ minor-league system.

Clemens is making his third start for the Padres since being claimed off waivers from Miami in June. The 28-year-old allowed two runs and tied a career high with five strikeouts Sunday against Cincinnati but was forced to exit after 4 2/3 innings because of a sore back. Clemens, who has never faced Philadelphia, was selected by Atlanta in the 2008 draft and made his major league debut with Houston in 2013.

WALK-OFFS

1. Myers is 12-for-33 with a home run and four stolen bases over his last nine games.

2. Phillies C Cameron Rupp is 5-for-14 with a three home runs and eight RBI in his last three games.

3. San Diego RHP Colin Rea will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the 2017 season.

GAME: Los Angeles Angels (49-60) at Seattle Mariners (55-53)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, August 06 - 9:10 PM EST
WHERE: Safeco Field, Seattle, Washington
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Seattle Mariners had trouble closing out games with the demoted Steve Cishek working the ninth inning, but that may no longer be an issue with rookie Edwin Diaz receiving the ball. The right-hander struck out the side as Seattle defeated the visiting Los Angeles Angels on Friday in the opener of their three-game series and has fanned 56 batters in just 28 major-league innings entering Saturday's contest.

The 22-year-old Diaz dominated Mike Trout and Albert Pujols in the ninth and also fanned Andrelton Simmons to secure his third consecutive save since supplanting Cishek as the team's closer earlier this week. "His stuff is so good," Mariners catcher Mike Zunino said after Friday's 13-pitch effort. "He works ahead of guys, and that makes a huge difference, and he's had some great success and he deserves it." The Mariners are five games behind Boston for American League's second wild card while the Angels aren't in the mix despite being 12-8 since the All-Star break. Trout was back in the starting lineup after not beginning Thursday's game due to a head cold and hit a three-homer off Felix Hernandez on Friday to secure his fifth consecutive 20-homer season.

TV: 9:10 p.m. ET, FSN West (Los Angeles), ROOT (Seattle)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Angels LH Tyler Skaggs (1-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Mariners RH Taijuan Walker (4-7, 3.66)

Skaggs hasn't allowed a run over 12 1/3 innings in two starts since returning from Tommy John surgery and a shoulder setback. The 25-year-old worked seven scoreless frames in his return against Kansas City and followed up with eight strikeouts in 5 1/3 scoreless innings versus Boston. Skaggs is 0-1 with a 4.61 ERA in two career starts against Seattle and has struggled with Robinson Cano (3-for-4).

Walker will make his first major-league start since July 5 after a bout of foot tendinitis. He attempted to pitch through the ailment but finally was shut down for a period after serving up three homers and allowing five runs in four innings against Houston on July 5. Walker is 2-1 with a 3.79 ERA in three career starts against the Angels and has shut down Pujols (1-for-8) while being obliterated by Trout (6-for-8, one homer).

WALK-OFFS

1. Mariners RF Nori Aoki went 3-for-5 with two steals in the opener after going 3-for-19 during his previous eight games.

2. Los Angeles RF Kole Calhoun was hitless in three at-bats on Friday and is 4-for-34 over his last nine contests.

3. Zunino hit a three-run homer on Friday - his third in four games and sixth in 41 at-bats since being recalled from Triple-A Tacoma.
