Preview: White Sox at Orioles
GAME: Chicago White Sox (15-13) at Baltimore Orioles (18-10)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, May 06 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore, Maryland

The Baltimore Orioles are putting an emotional series at the Boston Red Sox behind them by continuing their dominance at home. The Orioles will try to improve to 10-3 at Camden Yards and clinch a series win when they host the Chicago White Sox in the second of a three-game set on Saturday.

Baltimore survived a beanball war and accusations of racist taunts in Boston by splitting the four-game series and got a strong effort in relief from Gabriel Ynoa on Friday to earn a 4-2 win in the opener of a five-game homestand. The Orioles have yet to lose a series at home and are fitting the White Sox in between the showdown with Boston and the annual Beltway Series against the Washington Nationals, which begins next week. Chicago had every chance to take the series opener but managed just two runs on 12 hits while going 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and leaving 10 on base. The White Sox will try to provide better support on Saturday for rookie Dylan Covey, who opposes Baltimore's Dylan Bundy.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, WGN (Chicago), MASN2 (Baltimore)

PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox RH Dylan Covey (0-2, 7.29 ERA) vs. Orioles RH Dylan Bundy (4-1, 1.82)

Covey is still searching for his first win as he prepares to make his fifth start, and he logged a season-high 6 2/3 innings at Kansas City on Monday while yielding six runs and nine hits. The rookie from California struggled to keep the ball in the park in his two worst starts, surrendering a total of five home runs in outings at New York and Kansas City. Covey has issued 10 walks in 21 total innings while notching just eight strikeouts.

Bundy is enjoying a string of six straight quality starts to begin the season and limited the Boston Red Sox to two runs and five hits in seven innings while posting a win on Monday. The former No. 4 overall pick yielded a pair of solo home runs against Tampa Bay on April 26 - the only two he has allowed this season - and struggled a bit with his control while walking a season-high four on Monday. Bundy made two appearances - one start - against Chicago last season and allowed a total of two runs in eight innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Orioles RHP Chris Tillman (right shoulder) is slated to make his season debut on Sunday.

2. Chicago 1B Jose Abreu is 6-for-14 with two home runs, two doubles and three RBIs in the last three games.

3. Baltimore LHP Wade Miley left Friday's start with a bruised left wrist after being hit by consecutive comebackers in the first inning.

Preview: Brewers at Pirates
GAME: Milwaukee Brewers (15-15) at Pittsburgh Pirates (13-16)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, May 06 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: PNC Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Right-hander Gerrit Cole will attempt to keep his personal hot stretch going when the Pittsburgh Pirates' ace gets the nod Saturday in the continuation of a three-game series with the visiting Milwaukee Brewers. Cole stumbled out of the gate this year but has since posted five straight quality starts while recording a 2.61 ERA.

He will take aim at a Milwaukee offense that leads the National League Central in runs but was shut out for the first time this season in Friday's 4-0 defeat. Josh Bell homered and doubled for the Pirates and he is batting .333 with three home runs over his last nine games. The Brewers managed seven hits and one walk in the shutout loss as they played again without slugger Ryan Braun (arm), who traveled to Milwaukee for an MRI on Friday but is expected to be available as a pinch hitter for this one. After homering 11 times through April 25, Brewers first baseman Eric Thames has gone eight games without going deep and is 3-for-23 over a six-game stretch.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee), ROOT (Pittsburgh)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Matt Garza (1-0, 3.38 ERA) vs. Pirates RH Gerrit Cole (1-3, 3.50)

Garza was solid in his second start since coming off the disabled list in leading Milwaukee to a win over Atlanta on Sunday, allowing three runs and striking out seven with no walks in 6 2/3 innings. The 33-year-old, who has pitched in 134 games in both the American League and National League, was 1-3 with a 4.66 ERA in four starts against Pittsburgh last year and owns a 4.53 mark in eight career outings at PNC Park. Garza has mostly held Andrew McCutchen (6-for-23) and Josh Harrison (3-for-18) in check.

While Cole has been solid for the past month, he has allowed six home runs on the year after giving up just seven in 21 starts a year ago. The former first-round pick served up one long ball in a no-decision at Cincinnati on Monday in which he gave up three runs (two earned) in six innings. Cole has a 3.77 ERA in seven career appearances versus Milwaukee and is 30-17 in his career before the All-Star break.

WALK-OFFS

1. A rain delay of over two hours interrupted Friday's contest and more precipitation is expected Saturday night.

2. McCutchen had reached safely in 23 straight games before going 0-for-4 in the series opener.

3. Milwaukee is 0-4 in games played on Saturday.

Preview: Nationals at Phillies
GAME: Washington Nationals (20-9) at Philadelphia Phillies (12-16)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, May 06 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The Philadelphia Phillies are losers of four straight and seven of their last eight games, and not even a return home could break them out of the funk. The Phillies, who won five straight in their own park before dropping the opener of a homestand on Friday, will try to get back on track when they host the Washington Nationals in the second of a three-game series on Saturday.

Philadelphia pitchers were victimized by the long ball while giving up three solo home runs - one to opposing pitcher Stephen Strasburg - in the 4-2 loss on Friday and are allowing an average of five runs over the last eight contests. Attempting to reverse that trend on Saturday will be right-hander Vince Velazquez, who is coming off his most effective start of the season and will oppose Washington's A.J. Cole. Velazquez is going up against a Washington offense that has cooled off since exploding for 23 runs last weekend but is still capable of turning the game around in a hurry, like when back-to-back home runs from Ryan Zimmerman and Anthony Rendon provided the winning margin on Friday. Zimmerman is the hottest hitter in the league and carries a 12-game hitting streak into Saturday's contest after going 3-for-5 to raise his batting average to .433 on Friday.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, CSN Philadelphia, MASN (Washington)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals RH A.J. Cole (2016: 1-2, 5.17 ERA) vs. Phillies RH Vince Velasquez (2-2, 5.47)

Cole is getting the call to replace Joe Ross, who was mostly ineffective while surrendering 20 hits in 15 2/3 innings over three starts. Cole struck out 39 in 38 1/3 innings over eight starts last season but struggled with his command and control while yielding seven home runs and issuing 14 walks. The 25-year-old walked 10 in 19 innings across four starts in the minors to begin 2017 while posting a 6.63 ERA for Triple-A Syracuse.

Velasquez has his own problems keeping the ball in the yard and surrendered at least one homer in each of his five starts. The 24-year-old allowed one run - a solo blast - and two hits across five innings in a win at the Chicago Cubs on Monday. Velasquez struck out 10 against Washington on April 7 but yielded two home runs and lasted only four innings while absorbing the loss.

WALK-OFFS

1. Nationals RF Bryce Harper (groin) sat out Friday and is day-to-day.

2. Philadelphia RHP Aaron Nola (back spasms) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session this weekend and could begin a minor-league rehab assignment next week.

3. Washington RHP Matt Albers recorded his first career save in his 437th career relief appearance on Friday.

Preview: Marlins at Mets
GAME: Miami Marlins (12-16) at New York Mets (13-15)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, May 06 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Citi Field, New York City, New York

Offense does not appear to be a problem for the New York Mets, who are scoring in bunches while trying to cover up some of the holes on the pitching staff. The Mets will try to make it three straight wins and clinch a series victory when they host the Miami Marlins in the second of a three-game series on Saturday.

New York pushed across at least five runs in each of the last eight games but the pitching staff allowed at least five in seven of those contests, putting the team at a respectable 5-3 in that span. The Mets fell behind 7-1 in the fourth inning on Friday as starter Rafael Montero struggled, but the offense made up the deficit with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and five in the seventh - highlighted by T.J. Rivera's two-run double - and went on to grab an 8-7 win. New York will try to get a better effort on Saturday out of righty Robert Gsellman, who opposes Miami's Odrisamer Despaigne. The Marlins are losers of eight of their last 10 and the pitching staff is surrendering an average of 5.5 runs in that span.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FSN Florida (Miami), WPIX (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins RH Odrisamer Despaigne (2016: 0-2, 5.93 ERA) vs. Mets RH Robert Gsellman (1-2, 6.75)

Despaigne is making his return to the majors and a starting rotation after making all 19 of his appearances - three with Miami and 16 with the Baltimore Orioles - out of the bullpen last season. The Cuba native came up as a starter with the San Diego Padres and made all five of his appearances in the minors this season in that role, going 0-1 with a 2.49 ERA in five turns. Despaigne made two career appearances - one start - against the Mets, allowing a total of four runs in nine innings.

Gsellman was bailed out by the offense and managed to record his first win of the season on Monday at Atlanta despite allowing five runs in as many innings without notching a strikeout. The 23-year-old has been knocked around for 11 runs - 10 earned - and 16 hits in nine innings over his last two turns. Gsellman made his first two starts of the season against Miami and went 0-1 while surrendering a total of 11 runs - seven earned - and 10 hits in 9 2/3 innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Marlins LHP Wei-Yin Chen (arm fatigue) was placed on the 10-day DL to make room for Despaigne, but Chen is expected to make his next start.

2. New York placed C Travis d'Arnaud (bruised right wrist) on the 10-day DL.

3. Miami 3B Martin Prado is 8-for-19 with four runs scored in his last four games.

Preview: Giants at Reds
GAME: San Francisco Giants (11-19) at Cincinnati Reds (15-14)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, May 06 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati, Ohio

The Cincinnati Reds aim for a fourth consecutive victory Saturday, when they host the San Francisco Giants for the second contest of their three-game series. Cincinnati posted a 13-3 victory in the opener on Friday and has scored 24 runs during the winning streak while allowing only seven.

The Reds improved to 4-1 on their nine-game homestand with an offensive onslaught that saw the team pound out 16 hits and score in all but one inning. Jose Peraza was one of four members of the club to record three hits and nearly matched his RBI total for the season, raising his total to nine by driving in four runs. San Francisco fell to 2-2 on its nine-game road trip as its top five hitters in the lineup produced a total of three hits - all by Buster Posey, who is 10-for-22 during his five-game hitting streak. The star player has not been producing many runs, however, as he enters Saturday with only five RBIs on the season.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Bay Area (San Francisco), FSN Ohio (Cincinnati)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants LH Ty Blach (0-1, 2.55 ERA) vs. Reds LH Amir Garrett (2-2, 4.50)

Blach remains in search of his first win of 2017 as he makes his third consecutive start after beginning the season with seven relief appearances. The 26-year-old native of Denver scattered three hits over seven scoreless innings against San Diego on Sunday but settled for a no-decision after taking the loss versus Los Angeles while giving up only two runs in five frames five days earlier. Opponents are batting just .167 this season against Blach, who will be facing Cincinnati for the first time in his brief career.

Garrett won his first two major-league starts but has gone 0-2 in three outings since, although he yielded only two runs over seven innings in two of them. Sandwiched between those two turns was an abysmal performance at Milwaukee on April 24 in which the 25-year-old Californian was tagged for 10 runs - nine earned - on eight hits and four walks over 3 1/3 frames. Garrett, who never has faced San Francisco, has allowed four runs and nine hits while striking out 16 over 14 innings but is 0-1 in his two home starts.

WALK-OFFS

1. Giants SS Brandon Crawford (groin) likely will not be activated during the series despite being eligible to come off the 10-day disabled list on Saturday.

2. Cincinnati LHP Tony Cingrani (oblique) began a throwing program this week but still is experiencing some soreness.

3. San Francisco RHP Johnny Cueto is dealing with a blister on the middle finger of his right hand but is expected to make his scheduled start on Sunday.

Preview: Cardinals at Braves
GAME: St. Louis Cardinals (14-14) at Atlanta Braves (11-16)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, May 06 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: SunTrust Park, Cumberland, Georgia

The St. Louis Cardinals play the second of a three-game series Saturday at the Atlanta Braves looking for Tommy Pham to build off the immediate impact he made in Friday’s series opener. Pham, summoned from the minor leagues after St. Louis had to disable right fielder Stephen Piscotty early Friday, finished 2-for-4 with a double, a homer and two RBIs in his first game in the majors this season while Aledmys Diaz added four hits as the Cardinals cruised to a 10-0 victory.

St. Louis played the opener without center fielder Dexter Fowler, who sustained a shoulder injury Thursday, but banged out a season-high 16 hits while matching a season best in runs scored. The Braves have lost four of their past five and their relief pitchers continue to struggle, giving up three runs (one earned) in five innings to make their bullpen ERA 5.59. Atlanta has allowed 40 runs in its past four games. Braves left fielder Matt Kemp extended his hitting streak to seven games by going 1-for-4 and is batting .355 in that stretch, while center fielder Ender Inciarte is hitting .375 in his past nine games after a three-hit performance Friday.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FSN Midwest (St. Louis), FSN South (Atlanta)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cardinals RH Mike Leake (3-1, 1.35 ERA) vs. Braves RH Julio Teheran (2-2, 4.33)

Leake has pitched outstanding in his first five starts, leading the National League in ERA while allowing more than one earned run just once. The 29-year-old, who went 9-12 with a 4.69 ERA in his first season with the Cardinals in 2016, has won his past three decisions and received a no-decision Sunday against Cincinnati despite allowing only one run on eight hits with five strikeouts in six innings. Leake is 4-2 with a 1.98 ERA in eight career starts against Atlanta.

Teheran has struggled mightily in two of his past three starts, losing to the New York Mets on Monday after giving up six runs on six hits in six innings of a 7-5 loss. He defeated the Mets in his previous start April 26 (two runs on four hits in 6 1/3 innings), one week after being hammered for seven runs in four innings in a home loss to Washington. Teheran lost his only start against the Cardinals in 2016, and is 1-2 with a 3.13 ERA in four career starts against St. Louis.

WALK-OFFS

1. Diaz is 9-for-18 in his past four games with three runs scored and four RBIs.

2. St. Louis 3B Jedd Gyorko left Friday’s game after a ball hit off his right wrist.

3. Atlanta RF Nick Markakis recorded his 400th career double Friday.

Preview: Yankees at Cubs
GAME: New York Yankees (18-9) at Chicago Cubs (16-13)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, May 06 - 7:15 PM EST
WHERE: Wrigley Field, Chicago, Illinois

The first installment of the New York Yankees’ highly anticipated visit to Wrigley Field provided plenty of drama, though not the kind the Chicago Cubs and their fans hoped to experience. The marquee interleague matchup continues Saturday with the second contest of the three-game series between division leaders.

The Yankees claimed a 3-2 win in Friday's opener on Brett Gardner’s three-run homer in the ninth inning, handing the Cubs their first loss this season when leading after eight. New York has won 17 of 22 since a 1-4 start to the season. The Cubs had won three consecutive contests before failing to close out the Yankees on Friday. Chicago is 1-3 in interleague play, while the Yankees are 5-2.

TV: 7:15 p.m. ET, FOX

PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees LH Jordan Montgomery (1-1, 4.15 ERA) vs. Cubs LH Brett Anderson (2-1, 6.23)

Montgomery has kept the Yankees in all four of his starts, allowing three runs or fewer each time out. The 24-year-old rookie has posted quality starts in two of his four outings but lasted only five innings Sunday against Baltimore, allowing three runs and three hits with seven strikeouts. Montgomery has been tough on hitters the first two times through the lineup, but opponents are hitting .471 against him the third time around.

Anderson has been boom-or-bust in his first five starts for the Cubs, allowing 13 earned runs in two turns and a total of two in his other three outings. The 29-year-old was hit hard Monday by Philadelphia, allowing seven runs while recording just four outs in awful weather conditions. Anderson is 0-4 with a 6.53 ERA in five career starts against the Yankees but has not faced them since 2011.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Yankees’ active roster is a combined 2-for-28 against Anderson, with OF Jacoby Ellsbury going 1-for-14.

2. Cubs 3B Kris Bryant has reached base in 16 straight games, batting .413 with four homers over that stretch.

3. New York 2B Starlin Castro is 15-for-35 during his eight-game hitting streak while OF Aaron Judge is 13-for-25 with six homers during his seven-game run.

GAME: Arizona Diamondbacks (18-13) at Colorado Rockies (18-12)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, May 06 - 8:10 PM EST
WHERE: Coors Field, Denver, Colorado

Paul Goldschmidt is a profound terror when it comes to making life tough for the pitching staff of the Colorado Rockies. The first baseman blasted two homers and drove in a season-high five runs in the series opener and aims to inflict more damage when the Arizona Diamondbacks visit the Rockies on Saturday for the middle contest of the three-game set.

Goldschmidt, who has 10 career multi-homer performances in this career, has reached base in 57 of his last 58 games against the Rockies. He has belted eight shots at Coors Field and 16 overall against Colorado, with the latest two helping Arizona post a 6-3 victory. Mark Reynolds clubbed his ninth homer in the opener and is 5-for-9 over the last two games, and his hot bat has prompted the Rockies to play the recently activated Ian Desmond in the outfield instead of at first base as originally intended. Desmond struck out three times in four hitless at-bats on Friday after going 7-for-19 with two homers over his first four games.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, FSN Arizona, ROOT (Colorado)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks LH Patrick Corbin (2-3, 2.29 ERA) vs. Rockies LH Tyler Anderson (1-3, 7.71)

Corbin allowed just two hits over 6 1/3 scoreless innings in a no-decision against Colorado on Sunday. The 27-year-old has given up just four earned runs in 19 1/3 frames over his last three turns while striking out 23 and issuing just four walks. Corbin is 5-2 with a 4.59 ERA in 14 career appearances (13 starts) against the Rockies - 2-1 with a 6.69 mark in seven games (six starts) at Coors Field - but has shut down Nolan Arenado (4-for-29).

Anderson gave up a season-high six runs in five innings - serving up three homers - but escaped with a no-decision against Arizona on April 29. Opposing hitters have a collective .303 average against the 27-year-old and have launched nine homers in his 30 1/3 frames on the mound. Anderson has posted a 7.80 ERA and 2.09 WHIP in three career no-decisions against the Diamondbacks and has struggled with Yasmany Tomas (5-for-9) and Brandon Drury (4-for-7).

WALK-OFFS

1. Diamondbacks LF David Peralta (illness) was 0-for-4 but scored twice in his first start since Sunday.

2. Colorado RF Carlos Gonzalez (calf) missed the series opener but is expected to be available on Saturday.

3. Arizona recalled OF Gregor Blanco from Triple-A Reno and optioned RHP Braden Shipley to the same club.

Preview: Dodgers at Padres
GAME: Los Angeles Dodgers (16-14) at San Diego Padres (12-19)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, May 06 - 8:40 PM EST
WHERE: Petco Park, San Diego, California

Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Cody Bellinger figures to get an extended look at first base after Adrian Gonzalez landed on the disabled list for the first time in his 14-year major league career on Friday. The 21-year-old Bellinger is quickly becoming a welcome power source for the Dodgers, who continue their three-game series against the San Diego Padres on Saturday at Petco Park.

Bellinger went 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs in Friday's 8-2 win over the Padres while starting at first base in place of Gonzalez, whose return date is uncertain due to right elbow soreness along with triceps and neck pain. “We’re not looking at it as 10 days. We’re looking at it as whenever my body is right, and when I can go out there and I can take a swing without pain,” Gonzalez told reporters. “It’s whenever my body recovers. It’s about getting my body right.” The Padres have lost three in a row but may have identified a regular left fielder in Cory Spangenberg, who began the season in the minors but is 6-for-16 during his five-game hitting streak. The 26-year-old Spangenberg has hit safely in eight of his 10 games since being promoted to replace outfielder Travis Jankowski, who is out indefinitely with an injured right foot.

TV: 8:40 p.m. ET, SportsNet LA (Los Angeles), FSN San Diego

PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers LH Clayton Kershaw (4-2, 2.61 ERA) vs. Padres LH Clayton Richard (2-3, 4.29 ERA)

Kershaw is switching days with Brandon McCarthy, who had his start pushed back to Sunday after suffering a minor injury to his non-throwing shoulder this week. Kershaw took the loss last Monday against San Francisco, allowing four runs (three earned) while throwing 104 pitches over six innings. The three-time Cy Young award winner has gone 15-6 with a 2.03 ERA in 30 career starts against San Diego, and he’s limited Wil Myers to one hit in 18 at-bats.

Richard flummoxed the Dodgers in his season debut on April 4, tossing eight scoreless innings while allowing five hits with five strikeouts and two walks. The 33-year-old has pitched at least six innings in four of his six starts and earned the win in his last outing at Petco Park against Arizona on April 20. Franklin Gutierrez is 9-for-18 with a homer against Richard, who is 7-4 with a 3.42 ERA in 20 games (18 starts) against the Dodgers.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Dodgers reinstated OF Joc Pederson (groin strain) from the 10-day disabled list

2. San Diego C Hector Sanchez is day-to-day after exiting Friday’s game with a right foot contusion.

3. Dodgers 2B Logan Forsythe has put his minor-league rehab assignment on hold for a few days after experiencing tightness in his hamstring during a game on Wednesday.

GAME: Detroit Tigers (15-13) at Oakland Athletics (12-17)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, May 06 - 9:05 PM EST
WHERE: Oakland Coliseum, Oakland, California

The Detroit Tigers got off to a strong start on their nine-game road trip and look to maintain the momentum when they visit the Oakland Athletics on Saturday for the middle contest of their three-game series. Victor Martinez and Jim Adduci combined for five hits and five RBIs in Friday's opener as the Tigers posted their fourth win in five overall contests.

Martinez finished with three hits and is 7-for-14 over his last four games for Detroit, which was without Ian Kinsler on Friday - and could be for the remainder of the series - due to a strained left hamstring. Oakland managed only one extra-base hit in the opener as it began a six-game homestand with its fourth loss in five overall contests. Yonder Alonso posted his third two-hit performance in four games and has collected five RBIs in that span after driving in both runs for the Athletics. Khris Davis went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak against Detroit to nine games, going 12-for-33 during the run.

TV: 9:05 p.m. ET, FSN Detroit, NBC Sports California (Oakland)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Tigers RH Jordan Zimmermann (3-1, 6.18 ERA) vs. Athletics RH Jesse Hahn (1-2, 2.53)

Zimmermann looks to win his third straight outing as he makes just his second start on the road this season. The 30-year-old native of Wisconsin, who has yet to work more than six innings in 2017, is coming off a victory over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday in which he allowed three runs over five frames. Zimmermann won his only career start against Oakland on April 25, 2016, when he yielded three runs - one earned - over 6 2/3 innings.

Hahn struck out six and did not issue a walk Sunday at Houston but was reached for four runs - three earned - and eight hits over six innings of a loss. The 27-year-old from Connecticut recorded his lone win of the year in his only home start, a triumph over Texas on April 19 in which he allowed just one run and two hits over six frames. Hahn has yet to lose to Detroit, going 3-0 with one shutout and a 1.64 ERA in three career outings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Athletics LHP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) has no structural damage but remains sidelined indefinitely.

2. Detroit OF J.D. Martinez (foot) went 2-for-4 and scored a run in a rehab game with Single-A Lakeland on Friday.

3. Oakland RHP Cesar Valdez was claimed off waivers by Toronto two days after being designated for assignment.

Preview: Astros at Angels
GAME: Houston Astros (20-10) at Los Angeles Angels (15-16)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, May 06 - 9:07 PM EST
WHERE: Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Anaheim, California

Mike Trout is riding a career-best 17-game hitting streak but faces a pitcher on Saturday with a high chance of halting it. Lance McCullers Jr. has dominated Trout in their head-to-head matchups and attempts to hold the star in check again when the Houston Astros visit the Los Angeles Angels for the middle contest of their three-game series.

Trout is just 1-for-15 with eight strikeouts against McCullers, but the lone hit was a home run. He delivered a run-scoring single during the Angels' four-run ninth-inning rally in Friday's opener before Carlos Correa delivered a tiebreaking single in the 10th to give the Astros a 7-6 victory. Houston received a homer and a season-high four RBIs from Brian McCann in the opener and has won five of its last six games. Houston's Marwin Gonzalez had his streak of homering in consecutive starts stopped at five, falling one shy of the franchise mark set in 2006 by Morgan Ensberg.

TV: 9:07 p.m. ET, ROOT (Houston), FSN West (Los Angeles)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Astros RH Lance McCullers Jr. (2-1, 4.08 ERA) vs. Angels RH JC Ramirez (3-2, 4.23)

McCullers matched his season high of 10 strikeouts on Monday but settled for a no-decision against Texas as he allowed two runs and six hits over 6 1/3 innings. The 23-year-old defeated the Angels on April 20, when he struck out eight and gave up only three hits in 6 2/3 scoreless frames. McCullers is 3-1 with a 1.79 ERA in seven career starts against Los Angeles but has not factored in the decision in either of his two prior starts at Angel Stadium.

Ramirez tied his career high of nine strikeouts while beating Texas on Sunday, when he gave up two runs and four hits over 5 1/3 innings. He also struck out nine in a loss to the Astros on April 19 in which he allowed three runs and six hits in 5 1/3 frames. The 28-year-old has posted a 6.23 ERA in 12 career appearances (one start) against Houston and has struggled with Evan Gattis (3-for-6, two homers).

WALK-OFFS

1. The Astros own a 20-10 record, matching the best 30-game start in franchise history that was established in 1973.

2. Houston placed Michael Feliz on the family medical emergency list and recalled fellow RHP Dayan Diaz from Triple-A Fresno.

3. Los Angeles optioned Daniel Wright to Triple-A Reno and recalled fellow RHP Keynan Middleton, who allowed one run in one inning on Friday in his major league debut.

Preview: Rangers at Mariners
GAME: Texas Rangers (13-17) at Seattle Mariners (13-17)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, May 06 - 9:10 PM EST
WHERE: Safeco Field, Seattle, Washington

Rougned Odor has gotten off to a frigid start after last season's breakthrough 33-homer performance but is hoping his heroics in the series opener will ignite his bat. The Texas Rangers look to beat the host Seattle Mariners for a second straight night on Saturday after Odor's two-run blast in the 13th inning provided Texas with a 3-1 win.

Odor is batting just .195 this season and was retired in each of his first five at-bats on Friday before sending the decisive shot - his sixth of the campaign - into the right-center field bleachers. The victory was second in a row for the Rangers following a season-worst four-game skid. Seattle recorded 11 hits, with its lone run coming on a homer by Robinson Cano after it registered 19 in back-to-back victories. Nelson Cruz, who is 6-for-12 with three homers against scheduled starter Martin Perez, notched two hits in the opener and is 24-for-54 with five homers and 19 RBIs during his 14-game hitting streak.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rangers LH Martin Perez (1-4, 4.26 ERA) vs. Mariners RH Chase De Jong (0-2, 11.05)

Perez has dropped three straight starts, allowing 11 runs, 21 hits and eight walks in 15 1/3 innings during that stretch. The 26-year-old's lone victory came against Oakland on April 9. He did not factor in the decision against the Mariners on April 14, when he gave up one run and six hits in five innings, and is 5-2 with a 3.06 ERA in 13 career appearances (11 starts) against Seattle while getting hit hard by Kyle Seager (14-for-32, four homers) and Danny Valencia (6-for-16, one homer) in addition to Cruz.

De Jong, who temporarily is in the rotation with ace Felix Hernandez on the disabled list, is making his second major-league start. The first one didn't go too well as Cleveland hammered the 23-year-old for six runs and nine hits in 2 2/3 innings on Sunday. De Jong was acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers in March in a deal for infielder Drew Jackson and right-hander Aneurys Zabala.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Mariners placed LHP James Paxton (forearm strain) on the 10-day disabled list, optioned C Mike Zunino and OF Boog Powell to Triple-A Tacoma and recalled RHP Evan Marshall, C Tuffy Gosewisch and INF Mike Freeman from the same club.

2. Texas 1B Mike Napoli was hitless in five at-bats on Friday and is 5-for-39 over his last 10 games.

3. Seattle SS Jean Segura recorded three hits in the opener and is 7-for-14 over his last three contests.

PREDICTION: Mariners 8, Rangers 6
