Saturday’s NBA Playoffs Betting Preview and Odds

Golden State Warriors at Utah Jazz (+5.5, 209)

Warriors lead series 2-0

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (73-15 SU, 43-42-3 ATS, 36-52-0 O/U): Golden State's hot start in Game 2 was driven by the long-range prowess of All-Star forward Draymond Green, who knocked down four of his five 3-pointers in the first quarter and finished with 21 points before leaving after a scary fall in the fourth quarter. Green, who went largely unguarded on the perimeter with the Jazz trying to cut off Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson beyond the arc, seemed unconcerned about the injury following the contest. "I knew my knee was just locking up a little bit," Green told reporters. "I had it before. A little tweak. It wasn't like this huge sigh of relief because I kind of knew exactly what it was from the jump. But it's always good to know you're OK."

ABOUT THE JAZZ (55-36 SU, 43-44-4 ATS, 46-45 O/U): All-Star small forward Gordon Hayward scored a game-high 33 points in Game 2 after slumping to 12 points on 4-of-15 shooting in Game 1 and is looking forward to heading back to Utah. "It seems like it's been a while since we've been home," Hayward told reporters. "So definitely excited to play in front of our fans. I know they'll be excited to have us, and we're going to need them. They'll be really important for us. They always bring us a lot of energy." The Jazz are awaiting the return of point guard George Hill, who sat out Game 2 with a toe injury and remains day-to-day.

LINE HISTORY: The Jazz opened as 5.5-point home pups in a must-win Game 3 and that number has been bet down to 5. The total hit the betting board at 209 has dropped a full point to 208

INJURY REPORT:

Warriors - SF Kevon Looney (Out Indefinitely, hip).

Jazz - PG George Hill (Questionable, toe), SG Alec Burks (Out Indefinitely, knee)

TRENDS:

* Jazz are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight up loss.
* Over is 4-1 in Warriors last 5 Conference Semifinals games.
* Over is 4-0 in Jazz last 4 games following a straight up loss.

Preview: Red Sox at Twins
GAME: Boston Red Sox (15-14) at Minnesota Twins (15-12)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, May 06 - 2:10 PM EST
WHERE: Target Field, Minneapolis, Minnesota

The Minnesota Twins enter the first weekend of May in first place in the American League Central and will try to keep their hot streak going Saturday in the continuation of a three-game series with the visiting Boston Red Sox. A walk-off home run from Joe Mauer - the first of his career - propelled the Twins to a dramatic 4-3 victory in the opener of the set Friday night.

It also vaulted Minnesota - which has finished in last place in four of the last six years - into the top spot in the division for the first time in 2017. The Twins have won seven of their last nine and they are 5-1 in games decided by three runs or fewer in that span. Third baseman Miguel Sano has five multi-hit games during the hot stretch and he got Minnesota going Friday night with an RBI triple and a run scored in the first inning against the Red Sox, who fell to 4-7 on the road in their first contest since a controversial four-game series at home against the Baltimore Orioles. Boston figures to have the advantage on the mound in Saturday's contest, as reigning Cy Young Award winner Rick Porcello opposes Nick Tepesch, who will be making his debut for the Twins.

TV: 2:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, NESN (Boston), FSN North (Minnesota)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox RH Rick Porcello (1-4, 4.46 ERA) vs. Twins RH Nick Tepesch (2016: 0-1, 11.25)

Porcello has already matched his 2016 loss total but run support has been the primary issue, as he has allowed four earned runs over 19 2/3 innings through his last three starts - all losses. The 28-year-old is 9-9 with a 3.94 ERA in 27 career starts versus Minnesota. He may need to be careful if he faces Kennys Vargas (4-for-7 with a home run, a triple and a double against Porcello), while Mauer (15-for-58) and Brian Dozier (8-for-37, three homers) have had their issues versus the righty.

Tepesch spent time in four different organizations in 2016 while combining to go 8-4 with a 3.96 ERA - all at the Triple-A level. He went 1-1 with a 2.00 mark with 17 strikeouts in 18 innings through three starts to begin this season for Triple-A Rochester. The 28-year-old, who was originally drafted out of high school by the Red Sox before choosing to attend the University of Missouri, has never faced Boston but is 2-0 with a 2.03 ERA in two previous starts at Target Field.

WALK-OFFS

1. Red Sox LF Andrew Benintendi homered Friday and is 7-for-10 in his last two road games.

2. Twins CF Byron Buxton did not play Friday after leaving Thursday's contest following a collision with the wall.

3. Sano had his appeal hearing Friday for a suspension for his involvement in a bench-clearing incident against Detroit, but the ruling is not expected until early next week.

PREDICTION: Red Sox 5, Twins 3

Preview: Blue Jays at Rays
GAME: Toronto Blue Jays (10-19) at Tampa Bay Rays (15-16)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, May 06 - 4:10 PM EST
WHERE: Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Florida

Designated hitter Kendrys Morales looks to continue his power surge at Tropicana Field this season when his Toronto Blue Jays visit the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday for the second of a three-game set. Morales is 7-for-20 with three doubles, three homers and 10 RBIs in five contests at Tampa Bay in 2017 after going deep twice Friday as the Blue Jays rallied for an 8-4 victory.

Justin Smoak also homered in the series opener for Toronto to extend his hitting streak to six games (9-for-23) while leadoff batter Kevin Pillar recorded three hits and an RBI to hit safely for the fourth straight contest (7-for-18). Marco Estrada hopes to register his fifth consecutive quality start for the Blue Jays and he will oppose fellow right-hander Jake Odorizzi on Saturday as the clubs play for the ninth time in a little over a month (4-4 in the first eight). The Rays’ bullpen allowed five runs in the eighth inning as they lost for the third time in four games at home. Tampa Bay third baseman Evan Longoria, who has been bothered by a foot injury of late, had three hits Friday after going 4-for-37 in his previous nine contests.

TV: 4:10 p.m. ET, Sportsnet (Toronto), FSN Sun (Tampa Bay)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays RH Marco Estrada (1-1, 2.43 ERA) vs. Rays RH Jake Odorizzi (1-1, 3.50)

Estrada has strung together four straight strong outings since a loss at Tampa Bay, allowing three runs combined over 26 innings, but managed just one victory during that stretch. The 33-year-old Mexican gave up five runs on seven hits over five innings in the earlier matchup with Rays and is 1-5 with a 3.31 ERA in 11 appearances (seven starts) against Tampa Bay in his career. Corey Dickerson is 5-for-11 with a homer versus Estrada, who has completed at least six innings in five of six starts in 2017.

Odorizzi limited Miami to two runs (one earned) on a pair of hits over five innings Monday in his first start since April 15 due to a hamstring injury that landed him on the disabled list. The 27-year-old Illinois native gave up two runs on two hits over six innings to beat the Blue Jays on April 9, improving to 4-2 with a 3.24 ERA in 12 career games against Toronto. Devon Travis is 6-for-15 versus Odorizzi, who boasts 14 strikeouts and just four walks in 18 innings this season but has surrendered four homers.

WALK-OFFS

1. Tampa Bay CF Kevin Kiermaier left Friday’s game with a right hand injury, but X-rays were negative and he is considered day-to-day.

2. Toronto RF Jose Bautista is 5-for-28 with 11 strikeouts - four on Friday - against the Rays this season.

3. Rays SS Tim Beckham is 10-for-32 with four homers and nine RBIs over the last eight contests.

PREDICTION: Blue Jays 4, Rays 3

Preview: Indians at Royals
GAME: Cleveland Indians (15-13) at Kansas City Royals (10-18)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, May 06 - 4:15 PM EST
WHERE: Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri

The Kansas City Royals have put themselves into an early hole thanks to the majors' worst offense, although Eric Hosmer has been more than holding up his end of the bargain lately. The red-hot first baseman looks to extend his hitting streak to 10 games and help the Royals win consecutive games for the first time in nearly three weeks Saturday when they continue a three-game series with the visiting Cleveland Indians.

After posting only one multi-hit effort and batting .192 over his first 19 games, Hosmer is 15-for-34 since and has produced two or more hits four times during his streak - including in each of the last three contests. The 2016 All-Star Game MVP belted a mammoth two-run homer and finished a triple short of the cycle in Friday's 3-1 series-opening victory against Cleveland, putting Kansas City - which is a American League Central-worst 10-18 and has scored 25 fewer runs than any other team - on the verge of their first winning streak since taking four in a row from April 13-16. The Indians struggled to find offense against previously winless Jason Hammel in the opener and have scored a total of seven runs four games into their nine-game road trip. Cleveland could be in for more of the same Saturday against Jason Vargas, who has allowed one run or fewer in four of his five outings.

TV: 4:15 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1, SportsTime Ohio (Cleveland)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Indians RH Josh Tomlin (2-3, 8.87 ERA) vs. Royals LH Jason Vargas (4-1, 1.42)

Tomlin has rebounded slightly from a rough 0-2 start during which he posted an 18.47 ERA to go 2-1 with a 5.29 mark over his last three outings, including Sunday's win versus Seattle in which he allowed four runs over five innings. The 32-year-old Texan was coming off consecutive quality starts against Minnesota and Houston but has permitted at least seven hits in each of his turns. Tomlin fared well in five starts versus the Royals in 2016, however, going 3-0 with a 2.43 ERA.

Despite striking out only one and walking more hitters (three) than he did in his first four turns combined (two), Vargas stopped the Royals' nine-game losing streak Monday after giving up only one run to the Chicago White Sox across six innings. The Long Beach State product, who made just 12 starts over the previous two years, has given up only one home run in 2017. Vargas is 6-3 with a 4.68 ERA in 13 starts versus the Indians and 5-0 with a 2.08 ERA in his last nine turns at Kauffman Stadium.

WALK-OFFS

1. Friday's victory ended Kansas City's eight-game losing streak against Cleveland.

2. Indians DH Edwin Encarnacion has hit four of his five homers and tallied nine of his 11 RBIs this season on the road.

3. The Royals placed RHP Ian Kennedy on the 10-day disabled list Friday and recalled RHP Miguel Almonte from Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

PREDICTION: Royals 4, Indians 2
