Watching a highly rated 295 pound tackle playing 2A football on film can be misleading especially when he's playing against kids half his size. Get that same player in a camp with players his own size and you get a different prospective.

You are right-on Clover......In some circles they call it comparing "Apples to Apples". There was an "old-time" Coach I knew years back that had all
his Kids run backwards in a 30 yards race; He said, "the outcome will surprise you, You found out fast who can run and chew gum at the same time".

This is true, but as far as grading out players like a 2A player against other players, I've always thought this is what the Rivals football camps were for.

Prattville has a good program...always putting out FBS and FCS players. Roman Harper is from there....

Harbaugh is a hell of a coach and the type of guy that knows talent. Obviously this kid is pretty tiny for a OLB which is why his offer list was Div 1-AA and sun belt so he should jump all over a D1 power 5 schollie especially with a program that isn't exactly loaded with depth. Harbaugh is in a nice spot as he has serious job security and can take chances on undersized kids like this that would otherwise head to Troy or SoBama. Wake me up when he's snagging Rivals 300's out of Prattville and Hoover :)

I respect your stance; it's solid. There isn't a reason for any SEC fan to fear these events. But I think we can both meet in the middle on what these satellite camps are about. When top 300 recruits are regularly showing up to these events, then SEC coaches concerns might be warranted. The guys you are talking about go to the Nike and Under Armour events and are part of 7on7 teams that do tours and carry often 40 offers or more. As of now, these things are good for kids that have fallen through the cracks for whatever reason. That's a good thing for them to be seen. They might not be college ready or they may just be an unknown. The services can't evaluate everybody.

RLR I have been consistent that I like satellite camps...i just thought it was stupid the SEC didn't allow them. Frankly it's a good thing some extra kids from Bama will get power 5 offers if they are overlooked by the SEC. And, no doubt, the press will be standing in line to highlight every 2-3 star that got away from Nick. Shit they threw the Pat White stuff at Bama and the Barn for years even thought both school wanted him but as a CB not a QB...

as far as rating services they are heavily based on camps whether they be satellite, nike, UA, or team specific. Most anyone's 2 minute highlight tape will look outstanding but I'm not putting this kid down at all. Just because you aren't good enough to get recruited by Bama doesn't mean you can't be successful in major college football. I'm rooting for all these kids to do well at Michigan even if it opens up junky to tell us all how Saban missed a recruit :)

I think the camps might be a bit of a detriment to SBC but the more kids that can play at Michigan, not Troy, the better....as far as Alabama HS football is concerned. These kids going to Mich from Prattville are from big time high school football. They're a little undersized and, in Washington's case, have to change position but I think it's a good thing. I won't think it's a good thing if it was a kid that Bama was actually recruiting, of course, but for Bama HS football it's great.

on the same day this kid verbals to Michigan the Tide pulled a verbal from #5 LB in the nation so it really doesn't affect Bama at all. I'm happy these kids can play Power 5 vs SBC football but you also have to understand that Saban, Richt, and Lesticles don't have the luxury of taking chances on some of these potential hidden gems.

Agree ^

Michigan or any other northern school signing players Alabama and Auburn don't recruit are not going to be championship programs. They are signing UAB, Troy, Jacksonville State, Samford, North Alabama, West Alabama and South Alabama type players.
