Tough call here. Easy to say, but I would have called as you did. The chance to knock out someone who is short stacked and might be a little more reckless with an all-in call is worth it. I have, however, had some folks double up on me in the past in that situation and I regretted it. As well as he was playing, I probably would have taken a chance to knock him out.

That said, I had 99 and folded when both Viet and Edkid went all in, both with A-x. ( I believe) I woud have won without the trip 9's that flopped and knocked both of them out, but I had more of a survival instinct going at the time. There are too many times that I've been one place out of the money and called in that situation--and lost--when I could have just folded, allowed someone else to get knocked out, and come in through the back door.

I play at Party under the same name, but I haven't been there in months, and I'm really not sure why.

Bart-

I actually don't recall that hand where you had the 99. I was drinking during the tourney and posting in this thread so I was probably distracted at the time. IMO, if there were 2 people all-in before you I would fold. Chances are that one of them has a hand. 99 all-in preflop against 2 other players is really not that great of a situation. However, if you were second to act after someone went all-in, then I would have to think about calling. On the bubble it is a tough call but with this structure, 2nd and 3rd pay very little compared to 1st so I think you have to play for 1st rather than to get into the money.

You captured a bit of what I was thinking with the 44. I had an edge and a stack so I figured, "let me try to get rid of this guy." He was being a real pain, since he kept calling me and forcing me to make plays.
