The category payout depends on whether or not we have 10 players or 12. If 10, then it is $25/category (10 players x $25 extra =250/10 categories=$25/category If it is 12 players, payout will be $30/category (w 12 players x $25/player=$300 / 10 categories = $30/category). Agree?

So only $95 goes to the prize pool if we get 12? Still $125 for the buy-in regardless number of entrants, correct?

He send me a PM at EOG the other day. Think he enjoyed the league last year. I'd save a spot for sure for him.

If we have twelve, $25 would go to the categories, $100 to winners's pool. $25 * 12 would give us $300 for the categories (10 categories, $30 each), $100 * 12 would give us $1,200 for the winners' pool ($650/$350/$200). No change to the winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd).

if we have 10, payout for categories would be $25, winners' payout remains the same.

The league settings show SAVE PCT.....as per usual....I certainly prefer it

No support for Blocked Shots, thus helping break potential 5-5 Ties?

Hey Vic:
Just a reminder that when people send you money via pay-pal, have them send it as a "pay for good or services" as opposed to "send to a friend".

If you have numerous people "send it to a friend" you may get tagged in ****** and they'll suspend, freeze, question, etc your account. I had it done to me last year when I was collecting money for a baseball pool. They may have cracked down on it. You may have to check what the fee is, because I believe they'll charge you so you'll have to ask everyone to send you an extra ?? I think it may be 2 or 3 bucks,

Of course you can always chance it too.

Just a heads up.

I have no problem substituting PIMs with blocked shots but would like to hear what everyone else prefers before I do so.

Thanks Sherwood. After checking with their website they’ll charge "2.9% plus $0.30 USD of the amount you receive”, for goods or services. So let’s go with a $130 buy in with $125 of that going to the prize pool. Sending out the PMs now.

Count me in again this year Vic, I can send my payment on Tuesday when I get paid. Offering my 2cents. Paying out $25 for each category is kinda pointless with 125 buy in, I think there should be a payout for winning the regular season, takes alot more skill than winning a cat. take all that money and give it to the guy who finished 1st in the regular season. Playoffs is a crap shoot anyway. I also think we should have an un even number of Cats to avoid ties. Just my 2 cents

Adam

Adam brought up a good point regarding paying the “Presidents Trophy winner” instead of paying off each category winner. I know I’ve been in that position where I had the best record in the regular season only to fail to cash even third place in the playoffs. Playoffs are a crap shoot as Adam accurately points out. However I think the original idea by Artie is better because it might give a team incentive to keep playing even if they have little hope of making the playoffs. Additionally the team that ends up winning the regular season will undoubtedly be cashing numerous category prizes and end up being the same as Adam’s suggestion.

I failed to include something in my PMs sent this morning to everyone. Please select "pay for goods or services” when sending your funds.

Thank you

Sorry Vic. I disagree again. I only won 1 cat last year and won the Presidents Trophy then finished 4th. Cherry Bomb only won 2 Cats and he won the pool. So by winning the reg season and getting lucked out of the playoffs I would have won $25 for winning the regular season. Another pool I was in last year had 13 cat's I finished first in my division by 19.5 games and won the Presidents Trophy. I won 0 cat's and also finished in 4th. You don't win the league by winning the most cats you win by having the best ALL AROUND team(which you should be rewarded for). If you want to keep more people involved I say expend the number of teams that make playoffs or make it a keeper league. If people are have no incentive to keep playing as the season progresses I'm willing to bet they wont be anywhere close to winning any cats so again they have no incentive to play. You should be rewarded for being the best not rewarding people to try and keep them active. Whats to say I'm not making the playoffs so I drop everyone on my team and pickup players that only get PIMS(I've seen this happen before) just so I can try to win $25 for PIMS or if i have great GAA/SV% in the middle of the season then I just sit my goalies every week to try and collect $50 cause I know I can't make playoffs. Its a double edged sword no one will ever be happy and it will never be perfect. I saw we put it to a league vote before anything gets set in stone. Once again my 2cents not trying to rain on anyones parade just voicing my concerns.

Also to barmans comment about not being able to ante $160USD sorry not everyone has the money, some of us are living in Canada with a week dollar and are out of work due to the recession its not cause were wearing skirts. I'm having a hard enough time getting $125USD(which works out to over $170CDN after fee's) for a pool that used to be $50USD. I really like this pool, the people in it and look forward to it every year, however I took offence to that comment.

I'm ok with the money increase 'cause I'll just make the old lady work harder, but I get Adam's point, especially with our shitty CDN dollar!
I really like the idea of a President's Trophy chunk of dough, since playoffs really can be a crapshoot, and I've definitely dominated the occasional pool just to have a few goalies lay an egg in the first round and bam, you're out. Something to be said for a good, consistent, all-around team.
Along those lines I loathe the idea of either blocked shots/PIMs/Hits in pools. It's no deal-breaker for me, but I just hate the idea of having to select shitty players because they either spend most of the game hemmed in their zone (I blocked 5 shots on that shift yay!), hamstring their team a few times per game taking dumb penalties, or play for teams with favourable hit statisticians.
I don't really have any brilliant idea for what to add, but couldn't you just have a tiebreaker with just 10 categories? Goals or Total Points as the tiebreaker?

My personal fav for cats is G,A,PTS,PPP,SOG,+/-,W,GAA,S% only the best offensive players and goalies(shutouts are another crap shoot, best goalie will be lucky to get 10 which averages to less than .5 per week for reg season and there's a good chance it will come down to a shutout to win the pool in the playoffs) are rewarded. If we have 12 guys signed up that's 264 players. If you count both PP units for all 30 teams that's roughly 300(skaters only) plus 30 starting goalies. cat's aren't a big deal to me just need to know before hand in order to rank my players accordingly.
