Never said it was just Obama but once he climbed on board what happened, their trademark was cancelled. You say there was a lot more involved but I say once he got involved it became even more political. Everything he does is political and or politically correct. In other words, just like the Trayvon and the Harvard Professor incidents he got involved in something he should have stayed the hell out of. In this case he put his opinion into action and trumped the consensus on the topic. Sports hosts and the like can only talk about it, Obama did something about it.

By the way I saw him on the news last night. Are his ears bigger now than when he came into office, they seem to have grown. Are his ears the equivalent of Pinocchio's nose.

Are you implying that Obama was behind North Dakota dropping the name?

No I did not even hear of that until you brought it up. Like I said before, I live in Oklahoma and have lived and interacted with Native Americans all my life. I have seen a rise in their self esteem during that period of time also. At this point and time I think they would be content just to take Custer's money lol. I think everyone had an opinion one way or the other about Trayvon but it was very inappropriate for Obama to interject himself into what should have been a non-political incident and escalate the surrounding hoopla. The comment that Trayvon could have been his son was just plain out there. Bottom line, I think that the shape the world and this country are in that Obama has plenty on his plate. He should be concentrating on that stuff and let people like us kick the can down the road on relatively insignificant things like the Redskins, Trayvon, etc. That is why I started this thread. Obama needs to become more presidential, less political, and learn not to kick cans down the road. Who cares what he thinks about the Redskins name except that he inserted himself into the topic and in fact did something about it. If he was as involved in the Ukraine, Israel, Benghazi, Fast and Furious, the IRS, the VA, and the rest of the scandals he would not have time for topics that you don't even think are worthy of a thread.

OK that I will agree with. My area has many tribes, many casinos and they like taking the money. I worked at a hospital that was next to a reservation, many interactions. Unfortunately their are hostilities up here between the tribes and the white man. Much of it has to do with spearing of walleyes, other say discrimination, and let's face it they do suffer from severe alcoholism plus murders are rare and when they do happen it involves natives, Wrong or right, oh and a 17 year old was taken from his car in a fender bender by 4 from the reservation and they mutilated him. So there can be tension.

I took care of one of the Pit Bosses son in ER one day and he recognized me and offered me a comped room. That was my best experience, my worst was doing home care and I had to dress a stabbing wound, I showed up and had to walk over about 6 empty bottles, 8 passed out guys, and beer cans just to make it to his room, never went back.

I am not saying there are not some Native Americans in Oklahoma that fit that description but it has lessened greatly in my lifetime. Incidents like you mentioned are far and few between or at least are not made into more than they are. Sounds like you all have more problems up North than we do down here. But the Native American leadership for all the tribes in Oklahoma who have emerged as their leaders have been educated and most if not all are college graduates with advanced degrees and some lawyers. They have taken advantage of the legal loopholes etc. and their entire tribes have benefited greatly. All I am saying is that Obama has more on his plate to deal with. He was behind revoking the trademark no doubt.

Look at his hometown of Chicago, the murder capitol of the U.S. as far as I know. Way too many people getting killed for little or no reasons. That is worthy of his attention. The Redskin name is penny ante stuff. If you were in his shoes wouldn't you do everything you could to control that situation instead of spending thousands on illegal immigrants. His priorities are out of whack and doing what he did to get the trademark revoked was reaching way too far and was the equivalent of another executive decision. Like Nero he just fiddles around on vacations and golf outings totally detached from the real problems that need to be addressed. You should see the movie America, I would be interested to see what your opinion of that would be.

I brought that up only because I was wondering if there was any tension in Oklahoma? my heritage is native to be honest but I look white as a ghost in the winter. This is my great great great grandfather..

Interesting. As far as tension in Oklahoma it is minimal to none actually. The casinos have brought together a mixture of cultures. Actually you will hear more people speaking Spanish at some casinos than English. Maybe it is good to have a place where different cultures can mingle and right now casinos are doing that. Just nice to get away from politics once in a while also. LOL
