I have no explanation why some folks selected BOS and Lester on Monday.

I can only scout Tuesday as it stands alone.

I hope the information assists you or anyone else giving consideration to investing in Game 4.

I did have Tampa Bay +184 today many people would be surprised to hear. I am not a complete retard. That was an obvious bet.

it is short term crap like that that got all the squares on Lester -800 or whatever it was today.

I cant say I like Boston -140 as a bet tomorrow, but thinking they are in deep trouble in this series is very premature.

down 2-0 to yankees lost game 3 at home 19-8. that is toast. except they won 4 straight after that.

Holy cow...The OnceInACentury of all major sports statistic rears it's head

heh...Though the Rays may well fail to deliver in this series, arguments like THIS are why whomping RedSoxFan is easily double the satisfaction of whomping on YankeeFan.

You a homer, Smith. I at least made a quick line ahead of the opener ( to my knowledge)

SMITH: ....on the obnoxous fan meter, actually 5teamparlay and now you are working on a monopoly

SH: Strong company indeed. I can only hope that when I grow up that I'm as cool as 5TP

SMITH: I like the Rays team. Im sure they have many fine fans.

SH: That's not all they have.

Since their inception in 1998, they have as many AL East Division championships as do the Red Sox.

i agree its premature to count the bosox out. they've overcome greater deficits with most of the same core group in the past. an exciting time for rays fans/backers to say the least, but the series is far from over

Meanwhile, this season Sonnanstine vs RedSox

13 IP
7H
2BB
12 K

ERA 0.00
WHIP 0.69

Yeah, but to be fair, you shouln'd take Wakefield's stats against TB from 2007 if you're not taking Sonnanstine's stats from that year because you claim they were 66-96 and this Rays team is much different/better

In 2008, Wakefield has had 3 outings vs. TB, all on the road

2.1 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 2 K's, 0 BB, 3 HR
7 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 4 K's, 3 BB
6 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 1 K's, 5 BB

Wakefield is a much better pitcher at home:

Home: 7-4 (team 10-4), 3.10 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 5.7 average run support
Road: 3-7 (team 5-11), 5.14 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 4.4 average run support

Sonnanstine's stats from 2007, against arguably same core of Bosox hitters:

5.1 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 1 K's, 2 BB
3.1 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 3 K's, 1 BB
5.0 IP, 8 H, 7 ER, 5 K's, 0 BB
6.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 3 K's, 2 BB

5.0 IP, 8 H, 7 ER, 5 K's, 0 BB
6.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 3 K's, 2 BB

Current Bosox lineup has only four players who were regulars through most of 2007 - Drew, Pedroia, Ortiz, Crisp

Ellsbury a very late call up and his more steady presence might provide some balance vs the frankly vanished Big Papi.

The respectable comebacks and notable performances by Sox came with Manny, healthy Big Papi and Mike Lowell. They also included a healthy Josh Beckett.

I'm admittedly as much a homer as Mr Smith is for Bosox....heh

Should be a lot of fun in these final two games (YEAH) of this five game series.

Always good to see interest in this East Coast series from way the hell out there in that NoCal

Sonnanstine was 23 yrs old and a rookie in 2007

Wakefield was 47 :) in 2007 and is even Older this year....

The only reason I plucked the Sep 2007 start is that is as close to the current Rays offense as took the field last season.

========

For fun, pull up some box scores from Rays from as recently as June/July 2007 and enjoy your smiles contrasting them with what you're seeing this past five months.

Iwamura, Pena, CC and Upton.....with a decent second half of season from Navarro

Side Note - Once you get past Pedroia, Youk and Bay this Boston lineup is fairly limp.

Fun Fact - Sox LH batters in the three ALCS games now a meager 6 for 66

Make that 7 for 77 late in Game 4

Fun Fact #2 - Through late in Game 4 of the ALCS, Rays have now hit more HRs this season than Sox by +17

Faster

More Powerful

Better Defense

Better Front Four SP

Better Bullpen

In saber terms, that's a FiveTool Team

Just imagine how good they'd be if they spent $140 mil on their payroll.

Younger, faster, stronger players are happy to work cheaper.

And Rays fans can attend games in the second deck with a panoramic view of the entire field for just $9 per game
