Horseshoe said:You're right Illini, it was '88-'89, and they had handled Mich twice, but couldn't close them out that 3rd time, but damn if they weren't fun to watch that season.
Michigan's size and third look caught 'em at the wire in a tournament setting..that coach and that team deserved better.
I think Kenny Battle played for a little while, like Bardo did. And Rumeal Robinson also made the NBA, now that I think about it. Who was the Illini's big man though?Illini said:There were 8 or 9 future NBA players in that '89 Final Four game between Michigan and Illinois. Unreal talent.
Terry Mills
Glen Rice
Loy Vaught I think that was his name
Kendall Gill
Nick Anderson
Marcus Liberty
Steve Bardo
Who am I leaving out?
You're excused trytrytry. Just go to a game and see it in person, cause you'll be amazed. I remember going to the Illinois-Indiana game in '95, cause that was one of the few games I made it to while I was away at another college. Compare that with now, and there are just no similarities. I think the fire and intensity that Bill Self brought are the main reasons. Cause you go to a game now, and you can just feel the energy as soon as you walk in the door. It gives me goosebumps.trytrytry said:worst sports day in my life was The Day Mich beat the Illini in the final 4. That was my first year there but a special team...so dissappoinging.
THEN later that night on ESPN was the NCAA hockey championship game from my home town of St. Paul GOPHERS vs HArvard chance to get excited and maket he day great. Nope gophers lose to HArvard!!!
that was a crushing day.
Some buddies took me out for a Burritto to soften the blow, went with a half Mexican sausage half pork combination with sour cream. That helped. They had not yet invented the Super Burritto the one bigger than your head but the normal burritto was just fine.
Please excuseexcuseexcuse my home court comments I see now that "Times have a Changed" in Champaign sinnce I left wow that is a stunning home record and a great atmosphere.
