Quick tech question for those in the know. I just recently switched over to Firefox from IE8. Question is, what do I need to do to stop from having to hit reload more than once for a page to download? Many sites I have to hit the refresh key and in many incidents numerous times in order for the home page to finally show up. Also, many times the page is not a condensed as it should be on the lay out. It expands the text and tabs three fold if not more..

What you're describing is not likely a browser issue, but rather is an issue of slow internet speed.

No page should take more than a single Refresh command if your IP is broadband or faster.

As for the pages not displaying correctly, that's also a byproduct of slow download speed

Not sure what your problem is, based on your wording above

Firefox presents no problems for Copy or Paste

Any browser should respond to CTRL-C (copy) and CTRL-V (paste) in addition to the rightclick drop down menu

For Google Chrome

But.....I can copy and paste, but it doesn't paste the material as is, like IE does. (Identical)

What about Google?

Kind of strange shale. I didn't have those problems when I switched to Firefox. Although when I started using Firefox it was on a new hard drive because my other one was destroyed by a root kit.

You may want to try uninstalling Firefox, restarting your computer and then installing it again. Then make sure you have the Java Add On.

Look at the recommended Firefox "add ons". These are things you can download to Firefox to help with different things (layout, security, etc.). https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/recommended

Although you really don't need many add ons. I have 6 add ons. 2 of them are the Java quick starter and the Java Console. If you have Java for IE, it won't necessarily work for Firefox. You have to get the Java add on for firefox. Add on's are part of the deal with Firefox. They were a headache at first to me, but now that I know they are easy to deal with I dont mind it.

shale you may also want to make sure you don't still have that virus on your comp. You may need to take it into somebody who can find out for sure.

Firefox appears hazy on my computer. Not as sharp as IE. Could be my computer, but I just prefer IE.

When I got it I was completely illiterate re. it's use! Have learned a lot, but there are still a ton of Q's I have that are VERY "basic" to most of you. What's the best type of "for Dummies" book out there? BTW I have IE8, was looking into FFox, but their new 3.5 has a lot of complaints on their site. Born two generations too early I guess. Thanks for any help.

I am using Firefox 3.5 with no problems whatsoever

In my humble opinion, the vast majority of posted complaints come from novice web users and are not actually an indicator of inherent problems.

IE 8 is faster than Firefox on my system.

I have a feeling that may be just luck based on connection speed at a given time and/or the pages you have looked at. In benchmark tests FF 3.x is well ahead of the Explorer browsers.

Safari for PC is also not a bad browser, and it's also fast. ESPN360 works fine in that one, but there's not as much open-source support out there for it (much like Chrome).

I wouldn't bother with Opera. They made a a huge mistake several years ago and put ads in their browser, thinking people would pay to upgrade to ad-free version. They lost virtually all their market share and are on their way out. I doubt they'll exist in a few years.
