Firefox and Opera are the best in my opinion. Firefox for customizability and Opera for low memory and resource usage and overall functionality out of the box.

I considered myself pretty tech savy when it comes to computers and the internet. Like a 7 on a scale of 1-10. I used internet explorer for years then my computer got a virus despite me using microsoft baseline security analyzer, SUPER Anti-Spyware Professional, and McAfee Security suite. Still got a root-kit virus and my hard drive eventually crashed.

When I took it in, the tech guys said I needed to start using Mozilla Firefox, that it was much safer than internet explorer and really not much difference. You have the multi tabs, etc. I figured maybe it was just that one store so I called a couple more computer stores and asked. They all said to use Firefox so now I do. Firefox updates very often with security updates and whatnot. Plus there is a feature in Firefox where if a website gets unknowingly attacked by a virus where if you go to that website, you get the virus, firefox detects it and doesn't let you go there! IE did not do that, McAfee caught a couple of the viruses when I went to infected sites using IE, but the guys said that is probably how I got my virus (using IE and running into an infected website). The hackers (or whoever they are) now know how to attach viruses to websites used everyday. Like one day your favorite site has no viruses attached to it, the next it is infected and if you even go there you will get the virus. Unless you use firefox! This happened 2 days ago with the Braves forum I frequent very often, Braves nation. It got infected and firefox told me not to go there. So I didn't. Of course the Braves Nation tech guys got the problem solved but for those not using firefox I guess some of them got a virus on their computer that day.

Firefox has an import feature where you can import your favorites (bookmarks) from IE to Firefox if you decide to switch. That was a big deal for me.

Just tried Chrome as well and like it so far.

As someone mentioned earlier you don't have to deal with all of that mess up top if you choose not to.

Smooth, Simple, and fast as much as I can tell right now.

As for security, I have no idea yet as I haven't looked that far into it....

Impressed with Chrome so far. So clean looking and fast. Love the added space and much less clutter.

Seamlessly imported all my IE stuff right into it within seconds.

Even has spell correction.

A downside to Chrome is that there are currently issues with watching video on ESPN360 in that browser. I'm sure they'll get that fixed, but it's a no-go at the moment.

Yup, I use adblock and noscript as well. It's way too easy to get a virus just by visiting a website these days.

Thats what I was thinking. Im like really??

Nothings touching firefox right now especially with Adblock and NoScript for secure browsing.

Another downside is that Yahoo Finance does not yet support Chrome for streaming quotes.

Finding out now that I'm not so sure I like the copy & paste from Chrome.....

And now I know I'm going to have to change back.

You just cannot copy & paste the majority of things as is, unless someone knows a way.

Does Firefox have this problem as well?

I Haven't Had My Dell That Long

When I got it I was completely illiterate re. it's use! Have learned a lot, but there are still a ton of Q's I have that are VERY "basic" to most of you. What's the best type of "for Dummies" book out there? BTW I have IE8, was looking into FFox, but their new 3.5 has a lot of complaints on their site. Born two generations too early I guess. Thanks for any help.

Quick tech question for those in the know. I just recently switched over to Firefox from IE8. Question is, what do I need to do to stop from having to hit reload more than once for a page to download? Many sites I have to hit the refresh key and in many incidents numerous times in order for the home page to finally show up. Also, many times the page is not a condensed as it should be on the lay out. It expands the text and tabs three fold if not more.

Reason I switched is I got a virus that destroyed my IE8 amongst a couple of other downloaded programs.

I always used Firefox and I read where google chrome was faster so I tried it the other day and so far I think it is faster. I just need to get used to the differences.

Not sure what your problem is, based on your wording above

Firefox presents no problems for Copy or Paste

Any browser should respond to CTRL-C (copy) and CTRL-V (paste) in addition to the rightclick drop down menu
