In America there's a certain morality associated with gambling, and I don't buy it.
I can answer that one really easily. America was founded to be a moraled society, and many of those founding principles still exist today. Its why some things (topless beaches, for example) are looked upon as normal in other parts of the world while they'd be kind of taboo here. But it isn't that simple with gambling...
The real issue with gambling is the government doesn't get their share of the gambling revenue pie. Why were the police so insistent on stopping mobsters who used to run numbers back in the 20s? Not because gambling is immoral...but so he could run numbers on their own (your state's lottery today). I'd be hauled off to jail pretty quickly if I was found out to be running my own numbers operation, but its okay for Uncle Sam to do the exact same thing? Bull-effin-shit.
Anyone like John Kyl who says gambling is immoral, ruins lives, etc...ought to first start talking to his compatriots in the senate who are from lottery running states.
