ok in from my night of boozing...just browsed the boards for notfabio here is what i got...and the official midnight attendance from his place...and the tally for fridays POC2 vs's X3...you guys can do the math...POC beat it handily...the 2nd post if for his saturday presales...already 2x that for x3...the guys on this board are seriously thinking this could give stith a run for the all time 1 day tally of 50.1....that remains to be seen...(i still say the big day is saturday as X3 fell of by a huge margin over 10m from fri to sat and the sunday also fell of leading to a 102M 3day tally....i need 112 for the 3day to hit ATB so im not gonna get excited UNLESS i see a 50million for friday from POC2...anything under and im gonna wait and be patient until the saturday estimates come out (or notfabio's #'s)...

the GREAT NEWS WE IN ABOUT 500 MORE THEATRES THAN X3 HOWEVER!!! ........i still dont like to call anything else a winner until i see the results (unless you have over 85 and 90M on the 3day OW like i do at wwts :103631605 )

ok men 1 last update before i hit the sack this comes from deadlinehollywooddaily.com this chicky is pretty good with her info on the latest boxoffice tally "WHEN SHE UPDATES HER SITE"....finally an update tonight, it was money when DVC was relased a month+ ago...tonights update with linkage for the nonbelievers ;) (of btw this chick has had the tracking on this monster for a month+ now and like she said been calling for it to down spidey for quite some time)...see my thread across the street for older articles on POC2 from HDD.....

http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/pirates-2-already-stealing-all-time-no-1-movie-opening-title/

I'm told already that, based on today's matinees, Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest will have the biggest opening of any movie in history. Since May 24th, I've been predicting that it was gonna kill everything at the theaters this summer, and then, based on the early tracking, that it was going to be the all-time record-breaker. Now Pirates 2 is set to steal away Spiderman's No. 1 opening gross of $114.8 million. (Sorry, HBO, but Entourage's Aquaman didn't actually beat Spidey because that's a FAKE movie.) Not only will there be a Pirates 3, but Depp has said he's eager to do Pirates 4.That ka-ching, ka-ching sound you're hearing in Beverly Hills is United Talent Agency's Tracey Jacobs calculating her end-of-year bonus now that her longtime client Johnny Depp could rightly be considered America's most popular actor. You go, girl! Meanwhile, I'm just sitting back and appreciating Pirates 2's gargantuan box office haul. I'm told the movie could take in $45+ million more today if the shows from last night are included in the total. Right now, matinees are headed that way. Meanwhile, I'm told Warner Bros.' Superman Returns will take a big hit (again as I predicted), down at least 50% to $25 million or so. Think about it: in one sector of Burbank, Disney's celebrating while in another part of Burbank, Warner's mourning. Dontcha just love Hollywood?

this movie is MASSIVE! say goodbye to the all time opening 1day gross of 50.1million from stith...and kiss spidermans 114million GOODBYE....

i got a very reliable source off the movie boards who is always ahead of the movie sites for friday #'s and he is reporting POC2 DID 55million on friday

notfabio has his chains #'s and POC2 did 12.2million for the thursday midnight and fridays gross....in relation to stith's 11million...a 10% bump over Stith...that makes the 55million an accurate # is its 10% higher than the 50million stith did

the movie sites will be updated in a few hours but this info is good...

i dont think we will have the books posting early odds on any movies like they did for SM and POC2 and DVC for a while b/c no big blockbusters are planned for quite some time...

but we will the regular openings however every thursday night like always...

once this one is in the books come monday and the excitment subsides on the boards, im sure people will get back breaking down next weeks release....

congrats to everyone, i think we all cleaned up on this one...its been a nice run the past couple months on these....

I take it's becoming more safe to say the POC2 will be surpassing SM?

its a winner men....i like this no sweating...last week SM returns for me was a no sweater and again this week with poc2....the only thing we have to wait for is for them to be graded :money8:

at a multiplier of 2.1 (which is retardedly low even for a movie that has a preopen)...it would still win...

there's a very good read on boxofficeprophets regarding friday nights #'s
heres it is...

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

In 2002, Disney began rolling out movies that were based on their theme park rides. At the time, it seemed like an exercise in folly and the first of these releases, The Country Bears, gave no reason to believe otherwise. Its final box office tally was just under $17 million. In November of 2003, The Haunted Mansion was released. It earned only $75.8 million against a reported budget of $90 million. But in the middle of those two films, redemption unexpectedly arrived in the form of a foppish, fey pirate - right during the height of the short-lived metrosexuality trend. That fad's time may have passed, but Captain Jack's popularity carries on. The last 36 hours of box office have proven this fact in emphatic fashion.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest shattered the single-day box office record on Friday, accumulating an unprecedented $54.8 million from 4,133 venues. This represents a single day per-venue average of $13,271. Over a three-day weekend, that would be the equivalent of just under $40,000 per location. We're through the looking glass here, people.

Pirates didn't just beat the one-day record of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. It exceeded that prior number of $50.0 million by almost 10%. It's somewhat difficult to put this type of performance into perspective, but BOP is going to try. On its own, a $54.8 million weekend would be the 42nd largest opening and 46th largest weekend total ever recorded. This one-day total surpasses the entire weekend performance of last frame's $209 million-budgeted Superman Returns by almost $2.5 million. It beats the initial three-day performance of Superman Returns ($48.4 million) by 13.2%...and this is the film with the 51st best weekend of all-time we are using for comparison. Also, to give you a little bit of perspective on Dead Man's Chest's mighty impact, its Friday intake of $54.8 million represents almost 72% of the top ten's combined $77.6 million in box office receipts. That's domination.

After a single day of reported box office, Dead Man's Chest is the fifth largest opening of 2006. It will surpass Cars ($60.1 million), Ice Age: The Meltdown ($68.0 million) and The Da Vinci Code ($77.0 million) for second place by the end of matinees today. Perhaps most impressively, Jack Sparrow's latest tale only needs $45 million in box office today (a 4.7% bump from Friday) in order to break the $100 million barrier in two days. When Spider-Man did this in three days, box office analysts were stunned. Two days to $100 million could be the box office equivalent of Joe DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak. If that does get broken, it won't happen for at least a decade. And a $48 million Saturday (unlikely, we know) would mean that Pirates has matched X-Men: The Last Stand's box office performance in only two days. This is the fourth largest opening of all-time we are discussing yet Pirates has an outside chance of doing that in only two days.

X-Men: The Last Stand had a 2.28 internal multiplier after its sensational opening Friday of $45.1 million. Even if Dead Man's Chest were to be that supremely front-loaded, we are still talking about a $124.8 million opening. Such a performance would exceed Spider-Man's record by exactly $10 million and it would also slightly exceed the less publicized three-day record of Revenge of the Sith, $124.2 million. Pirates 2 needs only a 2.09 internal multiplier to break Spider-Man's record. This feat appears certain, and the surpassing of Episode III's Thursday-through-Saturday performance is also likely.

Having discussed worst-cast scenario about the potential front-loading of Pirates, we now move on to the bigger question of how strong a weekend should we realistically be expecting? A straight multiplier is not a good practice for a title with midnight sneaks. We need to break the tally down into the Thursday and the Friday totals. The midnight showings of Dead Man's Chest are estimated in the range of $12 million, which would be another record total, by the way. These numbers will not be reported until tomorrow at the earliest and may not be publicized at all, but it's the best guess available at the moment. That would mean that Pirates earned $43 million on Friday. With reports of sellouts across the country, a family-friendly theme, and an extended running time, all of the reasons supporting a strong multiplier exist. Since we are talking about a historically unprecedented number, though, it's important to keep expectations realistic. A multiplier of 2.8 is a good guideline and lower than that wouldn't even be surprising. A Saturday/Sunday holdover better than this would put us in "Look out!" territory. As it is, a 2.8 internal multiplier on a $43 million Friday with the Thursday $12 million added back into the equation would mean a $132.4 million weekend. Stating the obvious, Jack Sparrow just whipped Peter Parker's ass.

HuskerFan,
I have to give you credit on this score. I haven't been following your box office moves, but it seemed like you've been waiting for this play to come up on the board after doing a ton of research. Like I said earlier, I hopped on at Pinny twice at +114 and +135 to top Spiderman. I am certain to be on board going foward. Thanks for your work and willingness to share. Enjoy the big score.

appreciate the post...i am only here to help on things i feel i am best at handicapping...movies are my thing based on the amount of info readily available to the public...in relation to other sports like baseball football etc...i really feel they are far easier to handicap then a football or baseball game...im not here to get into a forum war or to promote other sites either but i am always at across the street (MW) in the mess hall for my take on the movies as that is my usual home...i saw the thread this week and thought id chime in as i felt i had the right side all along...i will certainly post here when i feel there is a play on something of value when it comes to the movie bets...

glad to see the good guys lay one on the chin of the books this week...

glta in your future plays...

I was wondering the same thing or if they just put up the white flag on it. Nice to have the extra cash laying around. Thanks HuskerFan!
