Rupert are you serious. Paul Pierce has not guarded Kobe those 14 time. To be honest this is the dumbest argument in a while. PP didnt become a great defender until this year. PP didnt become a great player until two other hall of famers came on his team. But you all want to throw the shaq argument out there.

Switch Paul Pierce onto the Lakers with Shaq for those 3 title years, and guess what , they still win em.. only its Pierce playing 2nd fiddle to Shaq.
Put Bryant in Pierces place with the Celtics , and guess what ?? The Celtics still stink up the cellar of the East.
Bryant has got to be the luckiest guy in the league, he got to play with Shaq during his prime, Shaqs prime that is -- not Kobes. He got to play with the biggest,strongest, most dominant force in the game and even got 3 rings while doing it. But without Shaq, Kobe is a wanna be winner. He'll get his points (notice I say "His" ) Cause as long as Kobe gets his, he's happy. But I noticed in the playoffs against Boston, he wasn't even getting his. And that made him very unhappy ... Most great players make adjustments, but Kobe didn't change one thing about his selfish gameplan during the whole finals. Yea great , lets score 15 in the 1st quarter , and 6 the rest of the game ... Without somebody to lean on, Kobe is as flimsy as checks his salary is written on.

See you are just a kobe hater. How many times has kobe missed the playoffs since shaq left. How many times has paul pierce been to the playoffs. How many championships has kobe been to without shaq and how many championships has pierce been to without kg and allen. So lets see what else. How many time has kobe played for the worst team in the league since shaq left.
I think Paul Pierce is a good player. But to say with shaq he would have one three straight or to say a kobe boston team would had been just as bad is laughable.

I would have to agree with this post and add that I too think the Shaq lakers would have won 3 titles with P.P. and there's no question in my mind about that. Hell, they even had the league behind them just like with the Bulls. Did you posters forget about that? The league wouldn't let Shaqs lakers lose. It was big money for them.
And I don't see how all you posters can say Kobe is better than P.P. when it's obvious P.P. is a team players and Kobe only cares if the team wins and he can be the leading scorer. That is something truly great players don't care about and that is the only thing Kobe cares about.
I may be a Kobe hater, but you my friend are a Kobe "Homer". I never said anywhere in this post Pierce is better than Kobe, just playing devils advocate. I did say after looking at their head 2 head stats, a stranger to the game might say Pierce is the better player ... and that was it. However I don't think Kobe is the best player in the league- that dubious distinction goes to the King in my opinion, King James that is. However I don't knock Pierce for making such a statement, he said thats part of his confidence. NBA is all about EGO when it comes to the top guns, some say more than others , but they all have one.- including Paul Pierce ..
as for league hardware and playoff distinctions , here's one PP has that KB may never get .... NBA FINALS MVP. (which to the players with EGOs , means more than titles, more than rings and more than making the playoffs ... it means everything.)
Lakers won game 5. You must be talking about game 6. PP did not guard him all those games that you mention the stats in the head to head. Also, Kobe did not guard PP and the Lakers have a doormat at the 3 so off course PP will score a bunch.
BTW, how good of a defender was PP before they put this year team together? He never made an all defensive team in his career. Not first or second team. So all of a sudden this year he can defend and shut down one of the best players in the league? Nope...
Celtics play great team defense and PP plays in the system. He is an solid not great defender playing on a great defensive team.
