Yep, I can recall the early years of his career. That narrative is long gone.
Let's just say some people grew up a little faster than others
I remember people bashing Belichick and Brady before they beat the Seahawks. They couldn't win without cheating, totally ignoring the fact that were doing a whole lot of winning, just fell short in the SB
Eli derailed their SB dreams a couple of times including the 17 and 1 Giant loss year.

Did Billy B ever state that he was pissed that he had to trade Jimmy G? Of course not. He never even hinted at that. I challenge any of you to produce any evidence to the contraty.
As we've come to see in other areas of our life (thank you Donald Trump) the media loves to boil a hot stew even if the stew is made up of ice cubes.
The only ones salivating over Jimmy G were the Fortyniners and Chop. The Fortyniners broke their love pact when they drafted Trey Lance. You still in love, Chop?
I am a Patriot fan and I never believed in Jimmy G.
As for the Gilmore trade, neither I or you or any of our illustrious sports media has any idea what went into that (effectively) cut.
Billy B is the master of obfuscation. Nothing leaks that he doesn't sanction.
He is the greatest coach of all time. Did Brady help. Of course. But Brady grew under his tutelage and would never have gotten a sniff in any other organization. It was Billy B who drafted him in the sixth round. All other GMs passed.
Last Sunday night we saw two GOATs going against each other. The guy who many of you criticize would have beat the other GOAT if it hadn't been for a rookie fumble at a key point late in the game. And he would have done it with a rookie QB who was taken fifth in a list of highly touted QB draft choices.
Billy B is not God. He can't win in all situations. But there is no one now or in the past 60 years of the Patriot organization who I would have wanted as the Patriot coach.
And if you guys are honest you would die and go to heaven if you heard tomorrow that Billy B was becoming your new head coach and GM.
He did what he did in the era of free agency. He has no equal. Period.
Quit nitpicking the small stuff. Focus on the big picture.
17-1...18-1 tomayto tomatoh. You got the drift.
This is a bit off topic but you really don't think Brady would've had a career if he was drafted by another team? He was a 6'4 225 pocket passing QB who played major conf college ball, not exactly some outlier where teams were going to have to suspend prior convictions as to what the position entailed. After a stellar preseason in 2001, many in the org thought he was clearly the better QB out of him and Bledsoe. And given how bad Bledsoe was 2nd half of '99 and '00, it was likely just a matter of time either way.
Keep in mind, this is a time in the NFL where QB's were coming from left and right field rather than now where the scouting process has become highly efficient and it is almost all 1st round picks. Warner, Garcia, Delhomme all went undrafted. Marc Bulger was a 6th rounder, Gannon was a career backup that ascended to top tier QB, Trent Green. Probably some others I'm missing but QB's coming out of nowhere was pretty common in that time period.
Given his obvious skillset once he got a chance and his maniacal work ethic, I find it pretty hard to believe he would be selling insurance for his daddy if he didn't go to NE. Don't have a time machine but I think cream rises to the top either way.
Drafted by another team? Brady was taken by Billy B in the sixth round of a six round draft. He wasn't going to be drafted by anyone else.
The QBs you sited as coming from "left and right field" actually proved themselves in other leagues before being given a chance in the NFL. Warner was a product of NFL Europe before the Rams found him. Jeff Garcia honed his skills in the CFL before landing with San Fran. And Delhomme was a homebred Cajun who played at Southwest La. Undrafted, the Saints took a flyer on him because of his local appeal. They sent him to NFL Europe for two years before giving him a shot.
So we have no idea what would have happened to Brady had Billy B not drafted him. Would he have gone to NFL Europe to play? I think that's unlikely. Would he have gone to the CFL? I have no idea. Had he gone to either of those places would he have developed the way Belli developed him, and would someone have then given him a chance back in the NFL?
I think being an insurance salesman is far more likely had he not been drafted and developed by Billy B.
Touchy touchy not even meant as a diss especially after hailing Brady so many times on these boards. You're not too bright sometimes William.
There are 7 rounds, there were 54 more picks when he was taken. 5 more QB's got taken. And yeah, those QB's had other routes but the general culture in the NFL at the time was to give unknowns a chance given the dire QB situation for so many teams (all the 90's legend guys were starting to retire and QB was pretty down when he came in)
I think he would've gotten a shot, maybe it would've been 3 starts for a bum team and he would've been drawing dead and screwed, anything is possible.
I stand corrected. There were 7 rounds in 2000 when Brady (#199 in 2000) was drafted by Billy B.
And yes there were five more QBs taken after Brady very late in that draft.
Here they are:
#202 Wash Tom Husak
#205 SDo Ja Juan Selder
#205 SFo Tim Rattay
#214 Den Jarius Jackson
#234 TBy Joe Hamilton
To not fully credit Belichick for drafting Brady and more importantly, developing him, is.....I don't know. You fill in the adjectives.
They were and will always be the best coach / QB team ever. To credit one but not the other is folly.
