Do you think the demand will disappear? Do you think everyone will live the rest of their lives housebound?
If there's demand, industry will rise to feed that hunger
In 2004, a Tsunami destroyed vacation communities throughout the Indian Ocean region. 228,000 people died. Today, those vacation destinations are open for business, ask VD about Thailand
The rest of our lives housebound? Come on you already know most of us here are out daily doing things locally. I'm in no hurry to be at an airport or flying and I've been going to Vegas for 25 years.
A lot of you guys here are saying that millions of businesses are going to close because of these shutdowns. That itself is going to hurt all casinos, not just Vegas. Are you guys even looking at the bread lines in cities such as Vegas? One of the Station casinos is being used as a soup kitchen. The lines are miles long. Stations are geared toward locals. Do you really think people are going to move from one day waiting in bread lines to gambling real money at casinos?
They first have to reopen, but yes I do think the demand is going to greatly diminish. Vegas is an over leveraged market. Without bailouts we'd already be seeing casinos permanently closing. They've already lost billions and eventually it'll be enough to bankrupt certain properties. People don't have to visit Vegas and less are going to when they have less money in their pockets, and this virus remains a lingering threat. You're a numbers man, so you damn well know that if even 10-20% is shaved from most businesses' top line they aren't going to survive. Corona is going to remove greater than 10-20% from casinos' top line. Vegas is going to be economically destroyed by corona. Are you really going to sit at a card table, wearing a mask, with some plastic shield between you and the other 1 or 2 players? Let's get real here. You aren't and many other casino gamblers aren't either.
How many Chinese and other Asian high rollers won't be heading to Vegas this year and beyond?
Are you going to rush into an airport soon for leisure travel? We really don't have any idea what new measures will be added, but it's going to make a lot of people reconsider air travel.
