I'm not sure what you mean? Again, there's no debating the existence of the statement in the Bible that Christ will come again like a thief in the night. For the purpose of this discussion where everyone's either trying to pinpoint His exact return or whether He'll even return at all, it's important that we simply leave it up to what the Bible says, so as there's no debate.

Aren't you presuming that what the bible says is the truth? Your statements get some laughs because they seem to ignore the possibility that the bible is not the ultimate truth.

you wouldn't understand what I mean when I say that the Bible is the only true authority, and thus in discussions like this it should be the only certainty.

I have met very religious people that weren't as stubborn as yourself. Its amazing that you don't grasp the concept that the bible is not the ONLY CERTAINTY in a discussion about this.

Sorry, I'm not an Evangelical, I'm Catholic and was merely citing Biblical evidence with respect to the original subject of this thread, so as to hopefully put the issue to rest. I didn't like seeing the confusion amongst the few other believers here. As for this being "your space", that's mighty presumptuous and arrogant of you.

Sorry. This is a concept that is neither sexist nor man made. The only thing that's man made here is your Church's idea to question God's word. Not allowing women into the priesthood is a law Church elders have been commanded to follow by God. How do we know this? Because God said so in the Bible, I'm sorry.

God didn't write the Bible. A large collection of men wrote it.

Which helps explain why it promotes a heavily patriarchal society

It's going to a terrible time afterall in which they'll be much weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth.

Ah yes....the promotion of God as an angry, vengeful killer who will bring eternal pain and suffering to those who aren't on board with The Word.

This is why Bill Maher can make such easy jack ridiculing such archaic mythology.

PT21, speaking as a lifelong Christian who has fraternized with many denominations - including Mormons, Southern Babtists, Methodists, Catholics, Pentacostals and members of Unity - I can thankfully assureyou that it's only a minority of Christians who insist that the Holy Bible is the end-all be-all with regard to delivering spiritual truths.

Fortunately, most Christians understand that "Hell" is not a post-life destination, but rather, is a erroneous state of mind.

I am with your barman. I am jewish and surrounded by plenty of jewish "hippillers." It's people like that, that turn alot of people off of religion. In all religions there will always be the fringe that just don't see beyond what they are indoctrinated. Unfortunately it is normally "hippiekiller" types that take the old or new testament or koran too far which leads to things like 9/11.

Closed-mindedness is a dangerous thing.

Ayuh...Not sure which New Testament scripture calls for the faithful to exterminate Hippies, but there's so many I may have overlooked it.

Not only do the majority of Christians believe hell to be a post-life destination, but I'm almost positive you got this idea off of a popsicle stick.

The Kingdom of Heaven is within us.

As is the perceived prison of Hell.

That's the good news delivered by Christ. We are blessed to have the freedom to be in whichever state of mind we wish.

But if you want to wait until after you pass from this plane of existence (given that the life force is eternal), please don't feel unduly pressured by me to get in on the good life Right Here and Now.

Never gets old seeing an utterly random internet personality with absolutely no ties to Sports Handicapping drop into our politicopub with a Hot Political or Hot Religious opinion.

Good news from the gospel teachings of Christ is that eternal life and unconditional love and forgiveness from God are a 100% sure bet.
