Media: @eliehonig on @AGEllison's smart use of 'felony murder': "That means the defendant intentionally committed some felony– assault–and that a death resulted. Prosecutors must prove Chauvin assaulted #GeorgeFloyd, but not that he intended to kill him."

Media: @eliehonig to @PoppyHarlowCNN on the #GeorgeFloyd case: "There's no such thing as an easy trial. Anyone tells you this is a foregone conclusion has not tried enough cases. Every one of these defendants will have a good defense lawyer challenging every piece of this case."

The dumbest people in the world sit on juries - anyone with any intelligence never shows up for the selection in the first place - now you've got some smooth talking attorney convince these idiots that just watched a video with their own eyes that they saw something different

The 3 being charged with aiding and abetting - who knows? the one cop never even touched the guy - he just kept the crowd at bay
The charging of the other 3 officers is political. They won't be convicted.
Hell I'm not even sure Chauvin will go down.

not a very smart move .... many inconsistencies in the DA version versus the AG Keith Ellison version. Why would you do this Ellison?

https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1268565142297509891.html (here you can pull up exact phrases used by DA and AG)

Huge discrepancies in the DA's complaint against Derek Chauvin, accused of murdering George Floyd, and Attorney General Keith Ellison's complaint against Chauvin.

The DA was much more favorable to Chauvin and police.

DA: "Officer Lane handcuffed Mr. Floyd. Mr. Floyd actively resisted being handcuffed."

AG: "Officer Lane handcuffed Mr. Floyd."

DA says he resisted, AG does not say he did. (DA notes Floyd's size, AG doesn't.)

DA: "Once handcuffed, Mr. Floyd *became compliant* and walked with Officer Lane"

AG: "Once handcuffed, Mr. Floyd walked with Officer Lane," period, no "became compliant."

AG: "When Mr. Floyd sat down *he said 'thank you man' and was calm*." Lane "noted there was foam at the edges of his mouth."

DA said nothing about Floyd's "thank you," his calm, or foaming at the mouth—a sign of respiratory distress.

(I flipped the order for ease.)

DA: Officers "made attempts" to put Floyd in car and he "struggled with the officers by intentionally falling down."

AG: Officers "were trying to force" Floyd in when he "said that he could not breathe."

"Intentional falling" is out. Floyd saying he didn't resist is in.

AG quotes Floyd saying "I'm about to die."

DA does not have that quote.

DA: "Video shows Mr. Floyd *continue* to move and breathe. At 8:24:24, Mr. Floyd stopped moving."

AG: "While Mr. Floyd showed slight movements, his movements and sounds *decreased* until at 8:24:24, Mr. Floyd stopped moving."

DA portrays Floyd non-responsive state as sudden, AG says it was gradual and self-evident to police.

DA said Floyd resisted arrest, period.

AG says he didn't resist, so Chauvin and cop's use of force is felony assault; in commission of that crime, Chauvin unintentionally killed Floyd, hence second-degree murder; other officers aided and abetted the assault-turned-murder.

The George Floyd in the AG's complaint is a lot different than the man portrayed in the DA's complaint. The AG says Floyd was calm, polite, compliant—and once police started their assault, he foamed at the mouth, said he couldn't breathe, and told them "I'm about to die."

Now that there is justice.... Are the looters and rioters going to return all the stolen property, help clean up and rebuild the buildings they destroyed?

They earned that stuff!! Their ancestors may have been a slave so they deserve to take whatever they want when they see fit. And if anyone says they aren't allowed to loot and destroy when they see fit then they are a Racist!!

[h=1]Federal grand jury indicts four former Minneapolis police officers in George Floyd's death[/h]By Dakin Andone, CNN

Updated 12:37 PM EDT, Fri May 07, 2021

CNN)A federal grand jury has indicted four former Minneapolis police officers in connection with the death of George Floyd, alleging the officers violated Floyd's constitutional rights, according to court documents filed in federal court in Minnesota.
The indictment says Derek Chauvin -- who was convicted last month on state murder charges in the Black man's death -- deprived Floyd of the right to be free from "unreasonable seizure, which includes the right to be free from the use of unreasonable force by a police officer."
Tou Thao and J. Alexander Kueng were also charged in connection with their failure to intervene in Chauvin's use of unreasonable force, per the indictment. Chauvin, Thao, Kueng and the fourth officer, Thomas Lane, all face a charge for failing to give Floyd medical aid.

I used to agree with you - after seeing how racially motivated and politically charged its become - I would say that state charges are 50/50 - problem for these 3 is the federal charges - federal prosecutions have a damn near 100% conviction rate - these 3 should be fired - but aiding and abetting a murder is hard to fathom - Chauvin deserved to be convicted of depraved heart murder - at least in my opinion - but he did not deserve to have an open member of black lives matter who attended protests (aka riots) for George Floyd to sit on his jury
