Sad but true...My all time favorite band is The Alarm and they pulled a great stunt a few years back.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Twenty years after the Alarm fired off "68 Guns," the group is back on the charts . . . but nobody knew it. Disguised as a younger outfit called the Poppyfields, the band -- best known in the U.S. for Eighties anthems like "The Stand," "Strength," and "Rain in the Summertime" -- landed a Top Thirty single in the U.K. this week with "45 RPM," thanks to a video featuring the Welsh band the Wayriders lip-synching the tune. "We weren't trying to be malicious," says Mike Peters, the group's founder and only original remaining member, by phone from his native Wales. "We were just trying to open the debate up, because there's so much music that gets played based on image. These days the song and the content get left behind. But now the song kind of squashes the assumption that new music has to be made by new groups.
"When we finished '45 RPM,' I was very excited about what we were doing," Peters explains. "So I figured I'd send it around in an unmarked sleeve to a few DJs and promotions people just to see what the reaction might be. People were like, 'This is great! Are you managing them?' But I didn't let on."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The song charted at 27 or something and DJ's were hailing "The Poppyfields" as the next big pop-punk band. The original video that circulated with the single only had the kid stand ins but after the story came out they made this one:

Sign me up for the camp that doesn't 'get it' with the Dead.

Unfortunately, the rock I listen to is long gone: UFO, BOC, Saxon, etc. One for old-times sake:

okay folks, i know many of us in the 35+ crowd often wonder what the hell has happened to traditional rock n roll and the music scene in general.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
those in our camp cannot figure out for the life of us how what passes for music today can be compared to what we know to be real good music. It seems to us that today’s generation is much more impressed with computer generated electronic sounds than actual singing or playing of instruments.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, led Zepplin, the doors, the Beatles, jimi Hendrix.... I could go on and on..... Where are these types today? we sometimes ask.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
While it may be true that in 2009 this "genre" of music is rarely heard of in the media, rarely wins awards, and pretty much never cracks the top 40. I am here to assure you that it is not DEAD.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
If you don’t believe me simply tune into your XM RADIO channel 56 or SIRIUS RADIO channel 17 and listen to the station 'JAM ON' for a few days.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
THIS IS FAR AND AWAY THE BEST RADIO STATIO FOR MUSIC I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
moe<o:p></o:p>
widespread panic<o:p></o:p>
phish<o:p></o:p>
government mule<o:p></o:p>
Dave Mathews<o:p></o:p>
Umphrey Mcgee<o:p></o:p>
String Cheese incident<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Many of these bands are not millionaires, but rather play for the love of the music. They are not "gangstas" they don’t feel the need to be front page of the media every day, they don’t have massive senses of entitlement, they simply love the music!<o:p></o:p>

JAM ON!

I'm 27 and I love classic rock. All the stuff you named above especially Pink Floyd, Queen, VAN HALEN, even Bonjovi, Guns and Roses, Scorpions, KISS, I can go on forever but yeah...that's the best music. Today's music is junk compared to rock n roll.

Deep Tracks

Deep Tracks logo since April 2009
Broadcast area United States
Canada
Frequency XM 40
Sirius 16
DirecTV 840
Format Classic rock/Deep cuts
Class Satellite Radio Station
Owner Sirius XM Radio
Website XM Deep Tracks

Deep Tracks is an Sirius XM Radio channel featuring the deeper side of classic rock music, which encompasses lesser known album tracks, one-hit wonders, concert recordings, "forgotten 45s" and "B-side" tracks. The channel's format resembles progressive rock radio of the early 1970s.

Earle Bailey is Deep Tracks' current programming director and one of its on-air voices; Dan Neer, Pat St. John, and Michael Tearson are also heard on the channel during the week, along with Pam Merly and Joe Bonadonna on weekends. The original programmer for the channel, George Taylor Morris, departed in the summer of 2008 due to health issues.

The station appears as channel 40 on XM Satellite Radio, channel 16 on Sirius Satellite Radio (replacing The Vault on November 12, 2008) and was available online through AOL Radio. It can also be heard on DirecTV channel 840. As of April 2009, this channel has changed its logo, taking the logo from former XM channel Top Tracks, which was replaced by Classic Vinyl post-Sirius/XM merger.

From August 14-16, 2009, the channel was temporarily preempted for The Woodstock Channel, in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the Woodstock Festival. The channel aired artists that played at the concert, including live recordings from the original 1969 festival. The channel reverted back to the Deep Tracks name and format on August 17.[1]
[edit] Programming

Deep Tracks is the home of a couple high profile programs on XM Radio, in addition to several specialty programs.

* Theme Time Radio Hour with Bob Dylan - Wednesdays at 10 AM ET/7 AM PT. Bob Dylan becomes the DJ for one hour every week on the channel, with several replays. Each week, Dylan chooses a new theme for the playlist he hand picks. Most of the songs Dylan chooses are obscure titles which are not in XM's library, and have to be searched out by creative director Lee Abrams. Encore presentations of the show air Wednesdays on The Village (XM 15), and Sundays on The Spectrum (Sirius 18/XM 45). The show is syndicated to the United Kingdom's BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music.
* Tom Petty's Buried Treasure - Aired Mondays at 10 AM ET/7 AM PT. Tom Petty broadcasted each week from his Los Angeles home, bringing together a playlist of classic songs and obscure music from his collection. The show went on hiatus as Petty wished to devote his time to other projects, but soon returned to the airwaves. The show also airs all day Thursdays on XM2, XMX.
* Old, New, Borrowed and Blue - Weekdays at 9 AM ET/6 AM PT. Listeners send in their four-song set suggestions to Deep Tracks to play on the air, as long as the set includes something old, something new, something borrowed (a cover song), and something blue (a blues track, a sad song or even one with "blue" in the title).
* King Biscuit Flower Hour - Mondays at 3 PM ET/Noon PT. A nationally syndicated music show consisting of live performances from acclaimed rock bands. Encores are Tuesdays at 9 PM ET and Saturdays at 3 AM ET.
* Fresh Tracks - Mondays at 10 PM ET/7 PM PT. This weekly show plays new music from familiar artists.
* All Hand-Mixed Vinyl - Tuesdays at 10 AM ET/7 AM PT. Hosted by Bill Fitzhugh. Setlists are at http://www.billfitzhugh.com/.
* Deep Tracks Undercover - Tuesdays at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT and Fridays and Saturdays at midnight ET/9 PM PT. This show features very recognized cover songs.
* The Grateful Dead Hour - Wednesdays at 11 PM ET/8 PM PT. Hosted by David Gans, this show features live Grateful Dead performances and covers from other artists.
* Final Friday Concert Series - On the last Friday of each month, this show appears on Deep Tracks to broadcast live concerts from the XM Performance Theater.
* The Blacklight Room - Fridays at 10 PM ET/7 PM PT. This is a specialty show for psychedelic music. Encores are Sundays at 2 AM ET.
* Earle Bailey's Headtrips - Saturdays at 5 PM ET/2 PM PT. This show features songs that tie in to a certain theme. The show is similar to Theme Time Radio Hour but with a more contemporary approach.
* The Art of Rock - Interviews with rock and roll artists.
* The Deep Tracks Box Set Symphony - A music and informative interview show based around music box-set releases. The show plays every song on the featured set, interlaced with interviews and stories from the band members and their friends.

Deep tracks is also phenomenal, but prefer the jamming, and fresh material of JAM ON, Deep tracks is more classics not as much new stuff.

Those two channels are well worth the price of XM

Channel 59 - Underground Garage is very good too.

The coolest Rock and Roll records ever made, whether they are 50 years old or 50 minutes old. The format is based on the British Invasion of 1964/1965 and features The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Kinks, Yardbirds, Who, Dave Clark 5, Hollies, Animals, Herman's Hermits, and -- uniquely -- adds everything that influenced the British Invasion: the Pioneers (Little Richard, Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis), the Girl Groups (Shirelles, Crystals, Shangri-La's), Surf (Jan and Dean, Dick Dale, Beach Boys), Soul (Sam Cooke, Arthur Alexander, Smokey Robinson). Plus, everything the British Invasion influenced Folk-Rock (Byrds, Turtles, Grassroots), Psychedelic (Cream,Traffic, Love), Classic Nuggets (Music Machine, Standells, Easybeats) and Punk/Pre-Punk (Ramones, New York Dolls, Stooges). The channel also prominently features today's coolest new music (White Stripes, Hives, Kaiser Chiefs). Created and Executive Produced by Little Steven.

The majority of people think the dead suck. The same majority enjoy music by jennifer lopez, 50 cent, and people that win game shows on TV to get record deals. Pop music is enjoyed 14 year old girls. The dead is enjoyed by music fans.
