To say school will always be there is a cop-out.
I hope I can talk some sense into you at the Bash but it seems like you've made your mind up.
I left everything right after finishing school and really wanted to do it long before but someone much wiser than me talked some sense into me.
Honestly, I don't know if I've every used my education to my advantage in the positions I've been in but really hope you will reconsider.
Knowing the field you are going into and others in that field, I strongly advise you to get your degree.
Enough of the soapbox, I was young once too.
I will talk to ya about it at the bash but with the whole freelance writing thing, I'm not really looking for a permanent 40/hour job. I have certain writing jobs I do that are recurring but nothing where I have to put in a certain amount of time. I don't want that.
Have never been asked about school for any of this stuff. The whole industry is a little bit different (at least from what I've seen) in the fact that you are asked more about where you've written than anything else. Send over a writing example and get hired.
I understand it would be completely different if I ever wanted to write for a newspaper or magazine or anything like that but I'm happy writing for websites. Sitting at home in my underwear, drinking a beer, waking up at 2PM and getting work done on my own time. I like it quite a bit.
Just not sure a degree would help with this stuff.
And this is about the point of time I get lectured about "What if you ever change your career?" to which I have no answer.
