gbogo...Costa Rica and Panama are in Central America...big difference....I agree with you 100% that you need all the amenities that you mentioned...sorry to disappoint, but gas is near 5 bucks a gallon here, and health insurance isn't much better...there is not much of a police force here to protect gringos and crime is getting worse...the people are it's greatest commodity, but the government holds them down with piss-poor wages...just my 2 cents.....on a lighter note, Latinas are hot!

Here's a rational and logical thought, why don't you actually visit these places you are contemplating moving to so you can see if you like them and could live there adapting to there culture.

Nah, just ask the posters. Much more logical reasoning.

What was I thinking.:ohno:

PS, I love the outdoors

It's a great outdoors country. One of the most beautiful and untouched countries in the world.

as much as you enjoy sports, New Zealand and Thailand are not the places for you..hardly any American Sports coverage and forced to watch major sporting events in the early AM...

Mid-morning, not early, and much of it is replayed later. Also, if you're going to be watching US sports you will need cable, which allows you to record it all anyway. The coverage is limited compared to the US as the channels also cover non-US sports. I'd guess there are usually about 3 NFL games a weekend, 1-2 nba games a night and 2-3 mlb games and maybe some NHL. No college sports.

Before you consider New Zealand, check out the temperatures - it's not a warm country.

its boring, the weather is poor - not much of a place to live

alot of NZ folks head to australia

for a while it was a hit destination to get citzenship from but they changed the rules i believe

however in saying it boring thats just me - if your into nature fishing skiing and the like then you may have a different impression of it

currency wise they started cutting rates there and it should trend lower over time.

Does NZ still have those bullshit electoral rules? Where you rank the candidates 1-5 or something and someone with more second/third place votes can beat someone who has more first place votes?

my dad has visited there and said he would move there. then again, he's old so that doesnt contradict the boring theory.

it is supposed to be very beautiful. the lord of the rings mountain scenes were shot there

I live in NZ. If you make money on the net does that mean you do it sports betting? If yes NZ is a good destination for you.

7pm est =11am NZ at the moment and during NFL season 7pm est= 1pm NZ. This means you can get the bets down during the day. You can get a lot of coverage of US sports on TV through ESPN and most play off games in the major sports are live. sports betting is totally legal with no restrictions on internet bets unlike in Aussie where you can't bet on the after the evnt has started which means no live trading.

Ask me anything you want to know

Thanks for the post. I don't watch a ton of TV anyway. I have like 100 channels right now and watch it maybe an hour a day. With the internet, I can watch any sporting event I want so I'm not too concerned.

Also, although I like the warm weather on occasion, 70 degrees is my favorite.

Thanks for the response. Up until yesterday, I would have thought a guy with the name "kiwiway" was just a fan of the fruit. Now I know.

Here are some questions:

What should I expect to pay in Aukland for a 2 bedroom house? It's a pain in the ass to find rentals online from what I've looked at.

How are the people? Is it hard to meet people? Any late night bar scene?

Any language other than English that is commonly spoke?

Is there a best part of Auckland to live in?

Kiwis kick ass, never been to either country but if I had to choose between Australia and New Zealand based only on the people I would 100% go to NZ. Have fun trying to figure out what people are saying though very thick accents in that part of the world. NZ is on my fantasy list of places to live, snowboarding, all-terrain boarding, and hot ass freckled blonde chicks. I once had a kiwi roommate named Joymes(thats james for you non-kiwis), great guy.

Kiwi appreciate your insights into NZ. Is it a good place to raise a family of two little girls?

The wife is bugging me to leave Las Vegas and move there. Would it hurt my sports handicapping if I did?

Thanks.

If you want to buy a place in Auckland in a decent suburb it will cost at least 300K USD. Their are suburbs in Auckland that are not that great. Auckland is a large multi racial city with a large Pacific Island community and a significant Asian population. Auckland's main problem is slow moving traffic in peak hours. If you want to rent a 2 bedroom place it will be over $250 USD per week. (I have a house in Hanmer Springs you can rent for $220 though).

The people are very friendly. No problem meeting people and Auckland does have a flourishing late night bar scene. Prostitution is legal but smoking in bars and public places is not.

English is the only commonly spoken language but we seem to skip over vowels when we speak.

The best part to live in Auckland would be over the harbour bridge in the North Shore. The South and West part of Auckland have bad reputations.

It is a great place to bring up 2 little girls. Very safe, friendly, good values, clean green. Very cheap education, health care.

It would not hurt your sports handicapping at all!!!!!!!!

Thanks again for the response kiwi.

After checking it out, I think the southern island would be a little bit better for me. Auckland (when you include the surrounding areas) is bigger than what I wanted.

300,000 is about as big of a place as I'd want.

Also, I hear things are kinda expensive over there. Any truth to that?

I don't smoke but what do the smokers do when out at bars? Is there not anywhere they go?

Christchurch where I live in the South Island is where I would recommend for you then. Things might be slightly dearer then the US. Smokers have to go outside and stand in little groups and freeze their arse off

That is where a girl I know from NZ recommended for me too. Weather sounds alot like Idaho cept it doesn't get as hot which is good for me. This 100 degree BS is hurtin bad.

One more question for ya...

Where is the best place to find rentals online for the Christchurch area? I checked out craigslist but found next to nothing.

Thanks in advance.
