Brady's the one who's been overrated his entire career. That system is so easy even Matt Cassel, who had never even started a game in college, led them to a 11 win season.

And if it weren't for the greatest clutch kicker in history, he might have 1 SB tops.

Yawn... Too bad Brady owns just about every post-season passing record out there.

this absolutely... if he played in 80s 90s he would be taking massive hits even if hes not getting sacked.. lineman are pulling up before they even leave their feet to lunge , its all half ass contact.. he would be taking massive hitts game in and out... further.. the rules and new style enable edelman amendola welker troy brown to be a star combod with what i already said.. the mvp is player personal that keeps providing a slippery outlet for brady.. brady would be good not great in diff era in diff org

The key to the question is prime. Has to be Young. Only QB who was both the best passer and best runner in the league during his peak. A handful of others had better careers.

I like the fact that Young was such a great duel threat....accurate passer and the ability to run.....and not just but run for run for big gains that the defense had to take into account. The quarterback that is accurate but not mobile is just not as valuable in my assessment.

Great players make the people around them better, look at the scrubs Brady got his rings with.

Great teams are much more likely to make great QB's than vice versa. Brady, Bradshaw and Montana all had ridiculous talent on D. Elway, Manning and Marino are the exceptions; they made their teams.

I think the "peak year" of which season or two season span needs to be added to some of these answers. I am curious as when Brady's peak was? Can we count the Moss season? maybe we need to start a thread on that topic. He has just been playing at top level of consistency arguably his whole career.

Brady in the modern era by miles but before the Super Bowl era Graham was his match.
Graham led the Browns to 10 straight championship games with them winning 7 of them.
The only years during this period where they did not win a championship was 1951, 1952 and 1953.
After he announced 1955 would be his last year he won the NFL Championship game 38-14.

First quarter
CLE – FG, Lou Groza 26, 3–0 CLE
Second quarter
CLE – Don Paul 65 interception (Groza kick), 10–0 CLE
LA – Skeet Quinlan 67 pass from Norm Van Brocklin (Les Richter kick), 10–7 CLE
CLE – Dante Lavelli 50 pass from Otto Graham (Groza kick), 17–7 CLE
Third quarter
CLE – Graham 15 run (Groza kick), 24–7 CLE
CLE – Graham 1 run (Groza kick), 31–7 CLE
Fourth quarter
CLE – Ray Renfro 35 pass from Graham (Groza kick), 38–7 CLE
LA – Ron Waller 4 run (Richter kick), 38–14 CLE

Football is a completely different game than in the 1970's when the quarterback had to find a way to survive every Sunday as well as find a way to win. With 1970 era rules I would take Terry Bradshaw. With present day rules I would take Tom Brady.

Since 2004 I don't think there has been a big difference in his quality of play in any of the years. Besides the year that he came back from a torn ACL in 2009. And even then, that team was just not very good.

It's never really felt like he has had better years than others, just for the most part when things go right he has his best years. I.e Gronk being healthy, not trading his #1 WR a week before the season starts, offensive line being able to block or a key player on the team not killing 2 people 2 months before the season starts. So it's been some years better than others but never really like a 3 year period in a row that were just his best years like Brett Favre or Steve Young or even Montana.

Peyton Manning was definitely a better player '03 and onward. But from '03 to 2014 pretty much the same thing for him too. Some years his teams were better than others.

Its between Manning, Montana and Brady with Brady getting the edge for being outstanding in the biggest situations (not to mention the longevity of his career) - did I mention he deflates the balls

John Elway=overrated!! Because of the great comebacks (which he put them in that predicament with his AWFUL play for 56 minutes) and the way he ended his career (probably on the most complete offence ever!) everyone thinks he's so great. Let's look and the numbers. First his drive. The drive would not have been necessary if he played better during the first 56 minutes, in which he had a QB rating of 50 with no tds and one pic completing less than 50% of his passes. Second when you compare him to his contemporaries, Montana, Marino, Young, Elway can't even hold their jockstraps! Elway had 8 1000 yard rushing seasons by a running back during his career in an era where running the ball was huge, but couldn't crack 80 (once) on the QB rating, until The Bronco were STACKED with talent. By comparison Montana had 4 1000 yard seasons Young 3 and Marino ONLY ONE!!! Yet these QBs stats destroyed Elways! Rings are a TEAM STAT not a player. Qbs don't play on defence or special teams. The 49ers had numerous seasons where their leading rusher did not even have 600 yards!!! Just because he was exciting to watch, big arm, risk taking does not make him great! Finally that Denver team was so stacked that even without Terrell Davis, Brian Griese led the league in passing and Jake Plummer made the pro bowl!!!! Everyone forgets how Elway played during the ENTIRE game in his famous comebacks, but only remember a small segment of the game. Good qb yes, one of the greatest ever...not even close!
