nice to see another curling fan....canadian women's team looks dominant... men's should get a medal, but i think other teams can pull a mild upset (sweden, china?)

how do you approach handicapping totals? in theory, do the more skilled teams play lower scoring games?

I'm actually not a curling fan at all, but I'm a degenerate who will bet on anything, and if I have a bet on it; I'm riveted haha.

What I've noticed in trying to cap totals, is that there are certain teams (usually better teams, yes), who will blank an end rather than take a single, whereas a number of weaker teams will take points anywhere they can get them. The biggest challenge in capping a top team against a bottom team is that if the shitty team gets lit up early, they might only play 6 ends or something, so even though there are 9 points scored in the first 4 ends, the game might end 9-2 after 6 and you lose your over bet. So to bet an over, I'm usually wanting to see 2 teams that a) like to put, and are comfortable with, a lot of rocks in play. b) are likely to play 10 ends, or close to it, and c) don't tend to blank ends often if they can avoid it (this usually goes hand in hand with a), as it's tough to blank ends that have a lot of rocks in and around the house.

lol...i know the feeling.... noticed the limits on some sites are quite low relative to established sports...could it be the books are finding it difficult to gauge teams and the likelihood of scoring?

there's a game tomorrow morning that could be a good candidate for an over... russia v korea. russians seem to be pretty aggressive and won't hesitate to steal points if they have to. both teams also seem to concede as much as they score...

Men's Curling Thursday am that I'm playing:

Denmark +2.5 -137 vs Canada
Denmark +364 vs Canada

value plays; will probably put a couple of units on each - Canada might win, but it would be against their current form, as they've really struggled to find their game in Sochi. So this is just a value play, as there's no way Canada should be that heavy of a favourite - it's just because they're Canada, so everyone expects them to kill everyone at curling and hockey.

Switzerland/Russia U12.5 -120

Norway/Sweden O12.5 -103

really like both of these plays/ Hope they cash.

Like the Slovakia bets. Leaning Norway. I'm going the other way on Finland. Everyone's expecting low-scoring tight game from the Fins. Call me crazy, but I think they find the net early and often. Thinking it might be like the last time these 2 teams met in the World Championship, with similar rosters, a 7-2 Finland win

Defense is the biggest adjustment to these rink sizes. Scoring becomes easier with more ground to cover. I am even taking Canada Over as they will want to score early and often to try to equal the USA goal differential today.

Rough day feddz..... I can only see cnd and the over. Too much scoring happening this tounament. Toews and crosby will likely have three goals amongst the themselves. ... I like the over, dont think I will play either side.
Hoping the Russian women game goes under as well... followed today and have this game to bail me out...
