Big business and govt dont do that they just spend and rob, spend and rob. When there is nothing left to rob (stocks, social security fund) they fail.

Big companies for too long have been running on the value of the stock. I would hear it all the time "we have to do whats in the best interest of our shareholders". Such bull shit. If big business had to work the books like normal small businesses do they wouldnt have half the problems. Keep your debt low, expenses in check and focus on cash flow. What you suggested they need to do is what would be in the best interest of the stockholders, make more money.

The union leaders in such businesses need to realize this too. That and the fact that we're not going to finance ongoing losses.
