The late-night drama Down Under finally ended with Rafael Nadal beating Grigor Dimitrov in 4 hours, 56 minutes, the second-longest match of the tournament. That means a night after Serena-Venus, we have Roger-Rafa -- both of whom played two five-set matches during this Aussie Open. The last time at any major that both two players entered the final having played multiple five-setters was right here in Melbourne in 1997 (20 years ago) between Pete Sampras and Carlos Moya.

Rafael Nadal, 30 (born 6/30/86), is the "baby" of the 2017 Australian Open singles finalists by five years. Venus Williams is 36 (6/17/80) and Roger Federer (8/18/81) & Serena Williams (9/26/81) are 35. This remarkable quartet closed out one other major together, when Venus and Nadal won Wimbledon in 2008.

To date career earnings, on the court: Federer ($100.26 million), Serena ($83.19 million), Nadal ($80.17 million) and Venus ($35.86 million).

Buried.

Did not make one bet on the match, but it's the fact that Rafa will literally drive a spear through Federer's heart in the final. One final ultimate beatdown in front of a world audience.... and they will never play in a slam final again.

This is going to be sickening.

Rafael Nadal vs Grigor Dimitrov.....Highlights

Great highlights, Greenie.

At 15-40 in the 5th set it looked like Rafa mishit the ball.... I'd have to go back and watch. But that could've ended him right there.

To be frank, I don't know if I've ever heard Rafa grunt and scream more in a match than this one. He was literally fighting to the death out there. Federer will be worn done and destroyed. And when Fed mentally quits and goes on vacation at the end of Rafa matches.... the lights literally go out. And I know it will happen again. It happens over and over and over and over again....

Rafa -130 is probably one of the best bets of the year. Hope to shit I'm wrong, but I see no chance for Fed. Yes, the courts suit Fed right now, Rafa played 5 hours and has only one day rest, Fed has 2 days....

This is going to be a nightmare. face)(*^%

The men's singles final will be the ninth meeting between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in a Grand Slam final, the most by any tandem in men's tennis history. Nadal has a 6-2 record in the previous matches. This will be their 12th meeting overall in a Grand Slam. Federer has won two of three from Nadal at Wimbledon but is 0-8 everywhere else. Their most recent meeting in a Grand Slam final was at the 2011 French Open.

If this were a 3-set match, I'd take Fed all day.

I hope these oddsmakers are somehow correct in calling this almost evens...... but Fed should get massacred.

The oddsmakers have got this line dead perfect. Feds rested while Rafa comes off a big battle. Publics gonna be all over Fed and they're throwing plus money at it. He's going to be an enticing bet to them and Rafa will cash and continue his run to being the true G.O.A.T :)

on a serious note tho what a treat that match was last night. As a rafa fan I sweat it out to the last point but high high quality stuff. I honestly didn't believe Dimitrov had that high caliber stuff in him for that long. I knew he had it for spells but thought thru the distance he couldn't maintain that level, I was wrong. It is good for tennis that he does. If he can continue to play like that a slam is in his future. It's nice with the pretenders out there like Raonic and Nishikori that a young guy has the goods.

Crazy me set my alarm for 2:30 AM , and watched the whole match this morning. I'm feeling it now.

Rafa is one of my favorite athletes of all time. And he OWNS Federer. Should be a great final.

just wanted to agree with runmaker, don't know what I will do, but if fed loses tomorrow, I think you have to say rafa was the better player

From an odds standpoint I agree with you. However, from a "Rafa owning Fed" standpoint, I cannot. If it's a 3-setter not on clay, I could agree with near 50-50 all day long. However, when you're talking 5-setters it becomes a different animal. If Fed was up 2-0 sets on Rafa like he was vs. Stan, he would've lost 3-2 the way he finished that match. He got lucky.

I've been through this many times as a Fed fan. Always holding out hope and going against reality. But it's the same every time. Fed knows he has lost before he has even stepped on to the court. It is absolutely disgusting. And that's one of the main reasons he loses.... when he could definitely win.

If you watch the Fed/Rafa match in Rome (the classic) you can see a young man who didn't have that mental block against Rafa and wasn't defeated. Nowadays, quite frankly, he is Rafa's bitch.

The pattern is the same. Fed comes out the gate playing like a God and it looks like Rafa has no chance. But Rafa starts to slowly grind him down and eventually Roger turns into a quitting bitch. Then Fed fades and just quits.

If Fed had some of Rafa's mentality, he would be bar-none without a doubt the greatest tennis player to have ever walked the earth.

Getting back to the Sunday match.... I do hold out hope for Roger given the way the court is playing. Plus, Rafa is not the same player he was several years ago and that is mainly b/c his game is based off of maximum athleticism. Rafa cannot be at the level Fed is at at 35 years old (5 years from now). It just won't be possible. However, since he is 30 he can still play near the top with that physical approach.

That last part sounds a little contradictory. Wasn't well written.

Mean to say that Rafa is on a legitimate decline these last few years b/c his game is based on his physical prowess. IMO, 5 years from Rafa might not even be on the tour... and if he is... very bad level ranking.

I want a Roger win so I'm going to post this:

lolz.
