statistically this is the best looking EPL total of the season. Newcastle THIRD in the league in shots taken and Sunderland are 12th despite being last on the table. Both are landing more than 25% of their shots on goal as well. Defensive both are very poor....not only have they both allowed more than 100 shots YTD but are terrible at conceding with shots on target. Nearly half of every shot on Sunderland's goal goes into the net while 40% of the ones that hit Newcastle's net end up over the line. Those are the two worst correlations in the league. Basically using those numbers we'd need only 7 shots on target to see this game reach 3 goals which is a comically low number.
I also like the idea of this being Gus Poyet's first home game in charge and this being one of the great rivalries in the league. Sunderland's offense is more capable than it's shown so far this year and we have two of the 3 worst defenses in the league. Looking for a bunch this morning and at least one more by the home team. Predict 3-1
