Donovan as good as Brady?...Pleazzzzzzzzzz, give me a break!! Until McNabb shows that he can step up in big situations and win...he will ALWAYS take a back seat to Brady and the Pats who have proven themselves time and time again.
Not as good...I said Donovan was better than Brady (and he is). Last year 4th and 26? That was big. Ask the Raider fans about how "good" the Pats are in the playoffs and they will say something different. Don't you remember how Brady got to his first one? Hey I'm not dissing the guy at all he is a great QB and a champion but he doesn't have the entire skill set that McNabb has.
McNabb has had the opportunity each of the past THREE YEARS to prove himself and even had the homefield edge in the NFC Championship game but has failed time and time and time again.
OK that's just silly. Saying McNabb is the reason the Eagles lost is like saying Brady is the only Pat that deserves a Super Bowl ring. IF that's the case then tell Bruschi and Ty Law and the rest of the Pat D as well as the Pat WR's to give their rings back to the league. :nono5: Donovan was certainly not responsible for last year's loss (if you watched the game) and he certainly wasn't responsible for the St. Louis loss. The TB loss yes I do put part of the blame on him but everyone in the Eagles locker room is at fault for losing to inferior competition the last 3 years in the NFC Championship Game (Hache and Bucs will love that comment).
Does failing to win in the Championship game and failing to advance to the Super Bowl make him a loser? Of course not, however...in the same senario Brady and the bunch have WON, thus how can you possibly say that McNabb is the better QB?
He's a better QB because he can do more on the playing field to help his team. Brady is good...no Brady is a GREAT QB but he cannot make the type of plays that Donovan can make.
Getting back to the talk of "Having a lack of weapons"....Brady backers can make the EXACT SAME arguement as the Patriots did not have a running game until this season with RB Corey Dillon....but yet WON their AFC Championship games and consequently have WON the Super Bowl 2 of the past 3 years.
Patriot WR's are much better at getting seperation than the Eagle wideouts and have been for some time. The 4 INT's McNabb threw were a result of balls bouncing off the Eagle WR's or the Eagle WR's running the wrong routes. Did you watch the game last year?
The eagles are playing in the weak and watered down NFC which makes their record very very phoney, if they played in the AFC this season they would probably be LUCKY to have 7 wins this season.
A simple look at the eagles record this season shows that they have only played three AFC teams, the eagles went 2-1 straight up and 0-3 ATS in those games, however, a closer look-see shows that they were very fortunate to have defeated a not-so-good Cleveland team in OT 34-31.
The eagles were also very fortunate to have defeated a middle of the road AFC team with regard to getting the win over the "Offenseless" Ravens in Philly by the final of 15-10.
What happened when the eagles faced a good AFC team? They got BURIED at Pittsburgh that's what happened!!
The Steelers out first downed philly 25 to 7, out yarded philly 420 to 113 and won the time of possession battle by a staggering 41:49 to 18:11, and don't blame it on turnovers as the eagles only had one turnover to Pittsburghs 2 turnovers in that contest.
I have already debunked this theory 10,000 times but I will do it again because you are a newbie. The Eagles are 5-2 against the AFC the last two years with one loss at Pittsburgh (how did New England do there again) and last year against the Pats (who won the Super Bowl). Saying they barely beat Cleveland is like me saying the Pats barely beat Arizona (an NFC power if I've ever seen one) 23-12 or the Colts beating Green Bay 45-31 while we were up 47-3 in the 2nd half against the Pack in our place. Those arguments are meaningless when teams like Miami, Buffalo (sorry Lander), Tennessee (who lost to CHICAGO), KC and Oakland reside in the AFC. It's a cyclical thing too. The AFC has a group of better teams right now than the NFC but only one can go to the Super Bowl. So they could have 21 teams better than the Eagles and it wouldn't bother me because we just have to take care of our own to get to Jacksonville while they will be wearing each other out in the AFC playoffs. Frankly I'm happy the NFC has a lot of .500 teams. We still have to win the games we play too. This team doesn't just go out and sneak by either they have beaten every NFC team on their schedule by double digits!
In closing, hopefully you will understand where I am coming from with regard to pointing out to you that there is NOTHING wrong with being a "Fan" of a team....however....you must be able to detach yourself and see things for what they are.
Deb I actually enjoy your fresh point of view on the topic
but I will have to agree to disagree with you. Have we struggled to get to the big game? Without a doubt. I will say right now no matter how good we look in the regular season our real season doesn't start until the kickoff of the NFC Championship Game (assuming we get there...as bad as everyone claims the NFC is that should be a walk in the park right? Thus my dilemma...I really think after 3 heartbreaks they know not to take anything for granted). Things have changed since Blitzburgh put us in our place. I think New England has taken the same approach as they have been pretty dominant since getting smoked by Pitt as well (Pitt was up 21-3 in both games...New England just made the end a little prettier).
Good luck to you this year and in the playoffs. If you do fade the birds in the big game (if they get there) don't say I didn't warn you.
