Guess the us gov said they would forgive 200 million in debt if they would get rid of the sportsbooks here. Has to do with the free trade agreement that is about to get passed here.
Hope the CR gov grows a set but I highly doubt it. Things should get interesting around here real soon.[/quote
Us flexing its muscles by bullying and buying people off...........ahhhhh the American way! Or should I say the Bush way?
Funny that there's nothing in the news about either the CR considering running off the sportsbooks or any "free trade agreement". The only free trade agreement I'm aware of is CAFTA (Central America Free Trade Agreement) and as of yesterday Costa Rica was going to reject this:
>>
San Jose, Jan 16 (Prensa Latina) Costa Rica, the only Central American nation, plus Dominican Republic, that has not yet approved the free trade agreement with the United States is now extremely unlikely to do so with the two major congressional parties adamantly opposed.
Government Minister Rodrigo Arias admitted Tuesday that it is difficult to approve the US CAFTA-DR due to increasing rejection in Congress and with the majority of Costa Ricans against it, as witness huge demonstrations in several cities in the latter part of last year.
Arias said there was no clarity reached following a meeting with the 25 legislators from PLN (National Liberation Party).
PLN Leader Mayi Antillon said the party will stay firm in rejecting the project, that three draft bills aimed at expediting its approval did not reach consensus and the Legislature has more pressing, national, matters to attend to than dealing with this legislation for the United States.
