here is a shovel...but i honestly dont think u can dip yourslef any deeper.

every bit of advice u have given in this thread has been 100 percent wrong, but im sure u know a lot about me and my poker abilities..lol\

anywho dont arguing..anyone reading this knows who is right and who is wrong including the op.

So, you're honestly telling me if you've never played hold 'em before (Iceman told me in a seperate thread he hasn't played) you think you could pick up a book, read it for a week and then go to a table and make money?

a. he's played hold'em before (guy who started the thread)

b. how do you know you've made more money playing poker than this guy? (guy you are arguing with )

c. I think you're wrong (about everything you've said)

I asked him to meet me at a Vegas casino to play one time and he told me he's never played before.

yes for a fact..any reasonably smart person who would take advice/ coaching and play smart tight disciplined poker would more than likely be the best player at the average 2-4 or 3-6 limit game in most casinos and would be very positive ev.

I guess if this is what you're saying then we'll agree to disagree.

I don't know how in the world you think a guy could read a book (no coaching as that's not what you said in your original post) and go to a 2-4 or 3-6 in the same week and be the best player at the table.

Playing smart disciplined poker comes from playing with experience. Hell, in one week the guy would barely know what hands beat what.

what do u think reading a book is.....its getting coaching from the author of the book.....of course u could get coaching.lol

i know people who have gone from playing micro stakes online and in a matter of months were playing nosebleed stakes online 100-200 and stuff.

why couldnt he?

as for taking a week to learn what beats what...well some people have an iq above 40.

no offense at all sir but u are way way off base. if u dont believe me ask matt 24. im pretty sure hes the resident poker expert at the rx.

im 99 percent sure he will agree with everything i have posted.

I don't need to ask anyone. I'd love to sit down at a table with a guy that has never played poker before and only read a book. I wish you the best.

Ice,

I've read over a dozen blackjack books and I can say that it's not difficult to play a +EV game in Vegas if you get the current issue of CBJN and read some "good" counting books. However, you won't be making as much as you want, and the swings can be painful. It also can get boring.

I honestly would spend more time on sportsbetting than you may be currently budgeting. That's where the money is, and BJ and poker can be a nice little "side" income. I wouldn't put more than 10-15 hours a week into these games. They will just be a nice way of breaking up some of the monotony.

i wish u the best also..and thanks for the discussion.

one last quick question? what limits do u play..b/c its my guess u havent played 2-4 or 3-6 limit live poker in a live time so him sitting with u at 10-20 or 20-40 or no limit wouldnt really apply.

I have played limit live games but my preference is 1-2 NL. Huge difference between the two games as you're probably aware.

I can assure you I play and win more poker than you do and I can assure you it takes years to become a good disciplined poker player.
No it doesn't. But good is a relative term. To win in Vegas.....that could easily be done in a week for someone who's smart and picks things up quickly.

Precisely why I recommend he plays coupons and learns video poker.

To answer your question though, I would say LIMIT poker.

ICEMAN--Go buy yourself the AMERICAN CASINO GUIDE and thank me later.
Professor -FH-

Ice, the professor is correct. If you have a few hours to spare you can quickly pick up a fair amount of loose change with coupons, while 100%+ video poker can be quite lucrative on triple points days etc.

Limit poker is also the way to go. I think Lou Kreiger's books are an easy read since he is a professional writer. A $20 book is a critical investment. Read, play, then read some more. Also start playing in the really easy games such as you find in the Flamingo or Luxor at 2/4 limits at 10/11 am. A competent player should expect 2 big bets an hour long term (which is basically burger flipping wages at that limit but should build your confidence as you see all the mistakes these players make).
