NHL gets a 1.7 rating for game 1 of the finals

Does anyone (who has watched both) really want to argue that the NBA finals are more compelling and exciting than the NHL finals?

not even close imo. Hockey is 60 minutes of action and excitement whereas the NBA is only a handful of minutes. Usually the last 2 minutes of the game.

NHL I am glued to the TV for the entire game and the NBA I will check out what else is on and check in for a score update every once in awhile hoping the score is close for the last 2 minutes. Hey that's me.

Still not convinced it was a serious question.

I'm not trying to be a dick, I really am just curious...do you know the rules (specifically offsides and icing)?

I have found that some friends didn't like hockey but when I explained some of the rules they appreciated the subtleties a lot more and enjoyed the game on a whole different level.

Its amazing to me that hockey isn't more popular than it is. I mean it reflects more of what the younger generation is into more than anything. to me it a real life video game with all the fast paced action. The players are the most physically fit toughest people on the planet.NHL does a horrible job of marketing.

incorrect. basketball is the sport most of the young demo is in. hockey is more of an older audience, along with baseball. id also disagree on hockey players being the most physically fit. nobody in the nhl has a physique like a lebron, most shifts on the ice are what, 1-2 mins? lebron is going up and down the court for over 40 mins a game. basketball also has a lot more entertainng plays, as it dominates social media like youtube.

yes the NBA and ESPN do a great job of selling the NBA as entertainment but everyone doesn't buy it

obviously you are in the minority, otherwise the nhl wouldn't be competing with tv reruns like it is now for ratings.

basketball is more popular simply because its huge in college and people grow up with it. Who can blame them? NCAA basket ball is much more exciting than the NBA and March Madness is awesome.
