What is wrong with just a letting the other team get a chance on offense. If they dont score they lose. If they take the lead they win. If they tie do a regular kickoff and play as normal until one team wins.

Have the best 3 out of 5 coin flip.

Seriously, they need to change it were the defending team gets a chance at the ball in OT. This 60 percent winner on a coin flip is ridoucolus. It,s Bad enough the zebras can throw a hankie and make a instant winner.

Their defense and special teams get trashed, but they deserve a chance to come out and play offense for what reason?

The saints failed to stop the Bears at the end of regulation and in OT, why should Drew Brees come out there again? The NFL doesn't want the games to run on forever.

have a designated fan from each team at the game each take the biggest and baddest shit they can if the game goes to overtime, then the biggest shit (by weight) wins the game!

This new shit rule will beat the shit out of the tuck rule! and just think of the concession money it will bring in for the nfl....

Here's a suggestion. Keep all the rules exactly the same except for the following.
First team to score 4 or more points wins. Game over. You can still kick a field goal, but you didn't win yet. You are up 3 and would still need another 3 to get the sudden death win. If the 15 minutes elapses and you are up because of the 3, good for your team. You win. The only downfall to this suggestion is there will be a few more ties during the season, but at least it gives the team that is driving in first an incentive to score a touchdown rather than a field goal.

I like the idea. Also make sure each team gets the ball once.

I would just leave it as it, just change how they enforce the penalties. Any defensive penalties should result in an automatic first down, but no advancement on the field unless it's a pass interference, facemask, or unneccessary roughness then it should be a 15yd penalty max & automatic 1st down. no 38yds pass interference penalty that happen to seal the deal for Chicago tonight, just 15. basically Orton just threw the pass up in the air to match Hester's speed and hope for a pass interference. Hester doesn't have great hands. crappy way to end a good football game.

These stats come from USA Today and MAA Online. The studies were done in 2004. Sorry, I couldn't find anything more recent, but it is still accurate.

Historically, the team that wins the toss only wins on the opening possession about 30% of the time. That means that about 70% of NFL overtimes have resulted in each team getting at least one possession.

51% of the time, the team that wins the toss eventually wins the game. 44% of the time the team that loses the toss wins the game. 5% of all overtime games have ended in a tie.

The only idea that I thought mildy sounded nice from the people that think like you, is having overtime the way we have it now, but that that the first team to score 4 points wins.

If I kick a FG
you kick a FG
then I kick a FG then tough luck, you could have adapted your strategy.

I already said the win by 4 idea. :toast:

I am always thinking of that idea that make the game short and betting lines safe that each team has a chance to make 3 pts FGs in OT at 35 yrd line (52 yrd FG), If both made, ball will be placed at 50 yrd line for 67 yrd FG try and it will only reward 2 pts on the second try.
PS: If there is a game that call "conspiracy" they have to make 67 yard to sell the game. Is that exciting?:103631605

I think adding the 4-pt rule to the current setup is a good one.

I hate when someone gets a good kick return, runs 1-2 plays and kicks a 54 yard field goal to win. Hell it could just take a good return and they're in field position because your special teams sucks.

I don't think the college setup would work in the NFL. How many college OT's are decided by some shitty kicker missing a money FG? The kickers are a TON better in the NFL and a smart coach could just kick his way to victory.

Overtime:

The nfl needs to do the following.

(1)just like in baseball, the home team should get last licks.no coin flips in regulation, nor in overtime.the away teams gets the ball first to start the game. The home team gets the kickoff to start the 2nd half. (there is really no home field advantage when the home team losses a coin flip)

(2) if a game is tied, and overtime is necessary.no coin flip, the home team elects if they want the ball first, or to kick off. Both teams would have to have possession at least once in the overtime session. Under the existing rule, it's the team that scores first wins. Again just like baseball, if a team scores first the game doesn't end until the other team gets their last licks.

(3) if the game is still tied in overtime, and both teams had at least one possession, the team that score's first there after wins.
