Tuley, I was thinking the same thing the first time I saw that ad, because it sure isn't over gambling(Rosenbloom, Modell, Rozelle, Al Davis Jr,etc..).

quote:
Someone I talked to today just overheard from some sales guys that the beer advertisers vented their frustration with this to the NFL. No one matters more to the NFL than the beer companies, we all know that. Us fans are peons compared to what the beer companies can do. And the beer companies are going to lose quite a bit of revenue from this move, so they let it be known. Little known secret is that the beer companies and the TV guys are really on gambling's side, they just never put it that way. In this case they said "we had orders for a lot of beer to these parties and now we hear some policy of yours has cancelled these parties. How can you cancel a party on Super Bowl Sunday?" Don't see anything happening, but nice that someone is pointing out what a bunch of idiots the NFL are.

The NFL "greedy"? Name one "for profit" entity in the U.S. that isn`t. If you want to talk greedy Las Vegas is the tops. Changing the fundamentals of BJ for instance by paying 6/5 instead of the standard 3/2 is only one example. The NFL got where it is by protecting it`s product, no more no less than LV banning "counters". Yes there are millions who gamble on games. But don`t be so myopic as to think that the "degenerate" is the only reason for the popularity of Pro FB. The NFL would survive w/o LV, can you say the same for the SB`s?
Las Vegas brought this on themselves. The new
campaign by the LVACA is "The real SuperBowl party is in Las Vegas not Houston." Bad idea
to try to draw visitors from Houston when the NFL has spent millions of dollars there trying to promote the city.
Number two is ever arrogant Mayor Oscar Goodman who had mob connections while he was a lawyer. Goodman has tried to take on the NFL. The NFL is bigger than the mayor and bigger than Las Vegas.
The lastest news is the NFL has sent a lawyer and some NFL representatives to town to check out each Hotel and Casino to see if they are complying with the 55' TV rule.
The NFL can easily order DirecTV to no longer provide the NFL Sunday Ticket feed to casinos next season. They are already charging the casinos a different price based on the size of the Sportsbook. The NFL has the final say where their product is distributed to.
Jack the NFL has been raping the casinos for the cost of the package since day one I know because I use to manage a book and my boss use to cry about paying it every year
Note: earlier this week, when the NFL told the Palms they couldn't show it in their theatre, the Palms offered to pay to be a licensee, but the NFL turned then down.
Tuley, the last year I was there 2001 the cap was 39,000 depending on the size and the view of your book,I managed a medium size book and I remember our bill being around 25,000
FYI Bill is doing really good these days since his horrific crash a few years ago in Montanna he still struggles some with his motor skills but otherwise he has made a remarkable recovery
