Bills-Bengals game will not be resumed, per report

The NFL has decided to not replay the Week 17 Monday Night Football game between the Bills and Bengals, per Seung Min Kim. The game was suspended after Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered a medical emergency on the field and needed to be resuscitated on the field by Medical personnel. Reports on Hamlin’s health have been positive, but he remains in critical condition.

We are still waiting for any moves the NFL will make to try to make this move as fair as possible, but for now we know that the Bills-Bengals game will not count.

With the game not being played, the Bengals and Bills will have one fewer game than the rest of the league, which will impact the AFC North standings and playoff seeding. The biggest change is that now the Bills don’t control whether they get the No. 1 seed. The Chiefs will now be the No. 1 seed if they beat the Raiders on Saturday. A Chiefs win would put the Bills in the No. 2 seed if they beat the Patriots and possibly put them in the No. 3 seed if they lose to the Patriots and the Bengals beat the Ravens. Unfortunately, the tie-breakers for that possibility rely on strength of victory numbers that won’t be known until the Week 18 games are played.

Chiefs clinch a first-round bye and home-field advantage with:

1) KC win
OR 2) KC tie + BUF tie
OR 3)BUF loss

BUF clinches a first-round bye and home-field advantage with:

1) BUF win + KC loss/tie
OR 2) BUF tie + KC loss

The AFC North has now been won by the Cincinnati Bengals, as even if the Ravens beat them this week, they won’t be able to garner a higher winning percentage. The Ravens could still get the No. 5 seed with a win over the Bengals and loss by the Chargers, while the Bengals have a chance at the No. 2 seed with a win and a Patriots win over the Bills.

NFL may not be the decision maker.
The teams and players might not agree with what the NFL wants.
Bills left on a plane after midnight of the game, did the NFL approve?
Think of the chaos if they play on that field, this close to the tragedy, in this day and age (comparisons to decades ago are not valid) the media will jump all over the ugly opportunity for over dramatic crap, why subject the players and coaches and family to all this potential, "here is the spot..." etc.
Of course I wish they would play but not gonna happen, do not blame the NFL though they will take full responsibility and deny any uncooperative issues with the teams and or players and or family.

What does expanding to 8 have to do with the situation and how does that allow the Bills to be in control of their own destiny?
Thats the most important thing that was lost with this game
How would you even do that. No team has a bye?
I don't get it

It eliminates the bye altogether, which given everything going on seems actually like a pretty fair solution

Bills and Bengals players don't want to make up the game it seems like

Still horrible idea as it renders best record meaningless, adds another team changing the rules this late and also Bills get raped on the bye
I mean if they agreed to it so be it but silly
Wonder how this impacts peoples bets on if 8th team in gets in and so on
Assuming this all happens

Yeah it'd be a clusterfuck for futures

The best record would still have home field advantage, so best record isn't meaningless

If Bills players don't want to make up the game then I think it's fair that losing the bye/1 seed is fair enough

If Bills play KC in the Championship game they should make it a neutral field
I know it won't happen but thats the right solution

They'll have to make it neutral field regardless of participants if that was solution. That wouldn't be fair if it was just those two, especially to Cincinnati

Not if KC wins Satrurday because Bengals couldn't achieve a similar record even with two more wins
Only applies to Buffalo
You can make the case for a neutral field if Bills and Bengals play

But Bengals could have beaten Buffalo and were the only other team alive for the 1 seed / could have finished ahead of Buffalo (still can)

Chiefs should have home field advantage though I think eliminating bye could be fair compromise
