The decision is probably going to create a domino effect. The other states will look at NVs decision and take action.

How many states? who knows but it is pretty clear it is a very bad development.

I think it's good because now everyone will be on board to get sports betting legal.

Makes me realize you were right back when you were PMing me everyday about the benefits of anarcho-capitalism.

It really is absurd though.

I just want to risk money without the prospect of getting completely screwed by a massive government induced bubble, is that too much to ask?

That's the game. I don't like regulations anymore than you do, but if the leagues are going sue to keep sports betting illegal, while getting in bed with DFS which is also sports betting then I don't feel bad for them. This is a power play. If the leagues want DFS legal, they need to back the fuck off in New Jersey and every other state that want sports betting. Their move now.

Yep, Big Picture this is great for Sportsbetting. The NFL especially, but the other leagues, are in deep with the Fantasy BS. They are not gonna just cut those massive $$$$ loose. So finally we can have an intelligent discussion about the benefits of legalized and regulated Sportsbetting to the leagues. The NBA and Adam Silver were so ahead of the curve on this. Fanatsy and Sportsbetting need to be treated the exact same way. Very exciting things happening on this front and the NJ case being re-opened. Many states are looking on both, and will follow suit.

Yep, I predict we'll see a favorable outcome this time around in New Jersey.

I hope so, but if not NJ, some of the other states that are starting to pursue this. And once it falls in one, it'll fall in all the rest. I hate the fake fantasy shit, but it turns out they may wind up being real sports betting's best friend, because the Leagues got in bed with them and won't want to get out so easily.

Betting games is betting on teams. Betting on fantasy is betting on players.

Not sure how 1 is real and the other is fake.

They're both real gambling, and New Jersey now has some ammo to use against the leagues in court, who are now partners in gambling because of the Nevada gaming board. I hope the leagues avoid opening this can of worms any further and back off in Jersey and other states. It's time to allow states to legalize sports betting.

Maybe New Jersey needs to counter with an anti-trust law suit against the leagues now.

More likely scenario.....

DFS becomes illegal in like 20-30% of the states that it is currently legal in and sports betting still isn't legal in more than a few states for the foreseeable future.

Should be fun.

And if that happens you can blame DFS, because they are owned by the leagues that are fighting to stop sports betting from being legal.

Is it really the leagues though? The leagues become pro-sports betting tomorrow and how many states is it legal in?

Yeah the leagues are hypocritical but they're a small, small piece of the puzzle.

You have tons of risk-averse idiots and politicians who feel they're protecting people out there.

I'm gonna let it play out, I think this is good for the long run, maybe bad in the short run for DFS.

My guess is that more and more states will be declaring DFS gambling, and therefore illegal. At the same time, you have more and more states wanting to have legal sports betting. Seems like a contradiction to me. The reality is that people want to bet on sports whether it's game outcome or player performance. Give the people what they want!

Call it what it is. It's 100% horrible in the short-term for DFS.

But on the bright side, maybe we'll be able to legally bet on sports in 8 years. As Bart Scott once said "Can't wait!"

I think NJ & Pa will have legal sports betting within 3-5 years.

FSTA taking member conference out of Nevada after licensing ruling

Darren Rovell, ESPN.com Sports Business reporter

The Fantasy Sports Trade Association has announced to its membership that it is pulling its winter conference, scheduled for January, out of Nevada and is cooperating with a federal investigation into daily fantasy sports operators.
In a letter sent to its members on Saturday night that was obtained by ESPN.com, FSTA president Paul Charchian said that due to the move by the Nevada Gaming Control Board this week, which required daily fantasy companies to be licensed in the state, and by the way the action was taken, "continued patronage in Nevada is impossible for our industry at this time."
As Nevada made its decision on Thursday, the two biggest daily fantasy operators, DraftKings and FanDuel, as well as a host of others, pulled their business from the state. In requiring licenses, the control board made the case within the state that daily fantasy was in fact gambling despite the companies' belief that they were protected against such a classification -- and therefore regulation -- by the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.
Charchian also publicly confirmed to his constituency for the first time that the FSTA "received a request for documents and information" from the U.S. Attorney's Office in Florida but assured its membership the FSTA itself isn't the focus of the investigation.
