Totally agree. I don't think this represents any good outcome for gambling. This ruling gives politicians in various states the ability to say "see, even Nevada thinks this is gambling and these shady, unlicensed operators need to be stopped!"
As much as I'd like to think otherwise, I'd anticipate things will get much worse before they get better.
I figured given all the backing DK/FD had that they had a better handle on the compliance/regulatory end but there isn't really much you can do. The bottom line is in this country online gambling isn't really legal and this is online gambling. Throw in competing interests like casinos smelling blood in the water and you probably see some states just follow NV. Some of these state reps/aides are going to log onto the site and see people betting 5, 10, 15k and think to themselves "What the F is this and how did it get past us?"
Another thing is this isn't really a $ shakedown, the sites don't have money to provide the states. They make money but they can't provide anywhere close to the state revenue that casinos can so they will side with the casino lobby. Casinos don't want people gambling online if they aren't getting a cut. Not much different than Target/Walmart would outlaw Amazon if they had the chance to.
If the sites could do it over they probably wouldn't have gone so heavy with the ad blitz, but realistically this was coming sooner than later regardless IMO.
