The guys who come out after guns after this are idiots. This guy was a nut job. Good thing they only did find a hand gun correct? 3 of the people he killed he stabbed. The gun crap should stay out of this one. One of the victim's father is blaming the NRA, I'll give him a pass while he is grieving

I agree. The gun argument is stupid. I haven't heard anyone wanting to ban knives yet. The kid had some serious issues and probably parents who were too ashamed to recognize it.

The grieving dad looked like an idiot, but your right, he is going through some rough stuff so he probably isn't thinking straight.

Rodger's psychiatrist prescribed him the antipsychotic drug Risperidone, but he refused to take it.

But of course it is all the guns fault!

Fact: Rodger stabbed to death half of his six murder victims.

hmm... back to the original article

http://libertycrier.com/nearly-ever...one-thing-common-weapons/#KDbP1RCZHv3cGssw.01

and the glorious headline:

"Nearly every mass shooting in the last 20 years shares one thing in common, and it isn't weapons"

but...but.....but.... this chap wasn't taking his prescribed Risperidone . Well, in the author's defense he did say ' NEARLY every mass........' :). Damn, if he just took a few pills he could have added this nutcase to the list..

Nah....no connection whatsoever. Good call.

Black Box Antidepressant Warning

The FDA announced Friday that all antidepressant drugs must now carry so-called "black-box" warnings, alerting doctors and consumers that the antidepressants increase suicidal behavior in children with depression and that the risk of using antidepressants must be carefully balanced with the need.
"In other words, these drugs should not be used casually," says Sandra Kweeder, MD, the acting director of FDA's Office of New Drugs. The box also carries warnings that patients who use antidepressants must be closely monitored for "clinical worsening, suicidality, or unusual changes in behavior."
The black box is the strongest warning the FDA can place on drugs. Manufacturers must include the box in any print advertisements for their antidepressant drugs, and radio and TV ads must include information read from the box.

this has been in effect for some time no, 2005 or so?

off topic, interestingly, the FDA put the Black Box on NSAIDS . Wonder what % of the general population know this? 5%? Unlike other Black Box warning meds, a few NSAIDS are available over the counter (ibuprofen, naproxen)--crazy, eh? Some folks pop these like candy. Short term they are terrific (4-7 days) , long term they are disastrous. Here's a stat- in USA 16,500 people a year die from GI bleeding attributed to NSAID over use . .........here's a cocktail; NSAID's plus alcohol on an empty stomach...:)

Taking Risperidone doesn't guarantee he wouldn't of acted violently. Not saying it's the gun's fault but the reality of getting a 22 year old to take an antipsychotic is often met with resistance.

That’s nothing more than a copout by the medical profession.

And parents buy it hook, line and sinker.

There's no medical test for ADHD.

It's pure subjective psycho-babble justifying the prescription of very powerful mind-altering drugs.

I don't know how anyone can't call these deadly chemical experiments child abuse.

that's the key right there. parents aren't even questioning this stuff. they think their teen has some huge issues (when in reality it's called being a teenager) and this little magic pill will make it all better.

In a new study published in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine April 28, researchers followed more than 162,000 individuals between 10 to 64 years old who were diagnosed with depression and started to take a type of antidepressant known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, or SSRI, which includes Zoloft, Celexa and Prozac.

The researchers observed that the participants of the study who were 24 years old and younger who were given higher than recommended doses of antidepressants at the start of their treatment were twice likely to deliberately hurt themselves within a year after they started taking their medications than participants of the same age group who were given standard doses.

Based on data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys for 2005-2008, about one in 10 Americans who are at least 12 years old take antidepressant medications. Antidepressants such as Prozac, Paxil, and Lexapro are among the most prescribed drugs in the U.S.

Gentlemen, (and I use that term loosely)

The U.S. is becoming a country of hypochondriacs.
