Insulating the power grid against this type of thing is one infrastructure project I could get behind

Have lots of batteries..get the 10 year ones... Who knows how much a year supply is... Have 3 big drums filled with fresh water plus dozens of jugs of water.

I know a guy that has a bunker & is ready for anything that breaks out.

I really do think high ranking official at NASA & other big heads in the world know something they are not telling us.

how sick would it be when the world comes to an end and he is stuck at work or on vacation thousands of miles from the bunker

LoL.....I've thought of that but never asked him. I've asked this question to others & they couldn't answer it with a reasonable answer, maybe because there isn't a reasonable answer when the world is falling apart.

Imagine spending millions of dollars preparing for a scenario like we're talking about in this thread & you can't get to the bunker? Simply insane IMO.......

the more paranoid they become the less willing they will be to be farther away from the bunker.

my approach has always been a middle ground on this thing.. Make some reasonable precautions, but you can't let it control your life.. Almost look at it as a hobby of some sorts.

The (main) reason I don't do this is because I feel like I will waste everything. Canned goods last a long time but eventually you have to swap them out right? having to swap out survival supplies with everyday groceries is too much work.

I see man being more involved in the end of mankind. Not a big Schwarzenegger fan but he did hit the nail on the head when he said in T2- "It's in your nature to destroy yourselves."

Don't forget to stockpile up on gold and silver.

I'm assuming if anything happens like the article suggested & there is no electricity at all, it figures the economy will definitely collapse, paper money would be worthless in those times?

Bottled water, food & weapons & ammo IMO would be worth more than the price of gold.

You will have rich people handing over their gold Rolex watches & diamond rings for a loaf of bread & several bottles of water.

Night time will be a very dangerous time to be outside of your house/bunker & traveling will be dangerous.

I also see man involved in the destruction of mankind.......I don't think we will see the end of mankind when a lot of this is going on.

It will take our progression back over 100 years but will put our technology advancements on hold for several years.

The only thing that I think can finalize the complete destruction of mankind is full out nuclear war & I don't think it will be used for quite a while.

True, but people who have excess goods who don't need the goods you have would more than likely accept some medium of exchange instead.

Oh yeah, pimps will be all over the place.........food for sex will be abound. Of course, you will be lucky not to catch a sexual disease in those days.

The people that will suffer the most will be families (parents with children)......its hard enough feeding their families now a days, it will be disastrous during those times.

The lengths that some parents will go to then just to get some food.

Weapons & ammo will be worth as much as food in those days. Gangs will rule the streets.......

Just thinking of this crap gives me a headache. They say you're lucky to be alive.........in those days, it will be the other way around.

If a disaster happens where these scenerios are in play, probably not a bad idea to form some kind of neighborhood get together where you have a group looking out for each other.. at least until you know what kinds of moves you going to make..

Red Eye, you're hoping the neighbors in the neighborhood watch "gang" have weapons to fight off the supposed crazies.

Saw that insane movie "The Purge" the other day & thought about crazy crap like that happening but not sanctioned by the govt like the movie portrays.......if you can get 20 to 30 trusted people in a group, it csan work but then you gotta deal with other problems, like food/water. All these people will not have stocked food & will need to be fed. Everyone will need to come together & figure out the food situation. Like 100's of years ago.

I think it wouldn't hurt to explore the possibility...
