How about if the nba tries to entertain people without providing a misguided social message? There really is nothing to gain for them to support BLM, which has nothing to do with black lives matter and everything to do with injecting marxist ideology into our political system. This is a faux attempt to stand up for racial equality and the hypocrisy is that they bow to china who does all the things they say they are against, including horrible human rights violations, using slave labor, racially biased policies towards muslims and others, have no respect for intellectual property rights, poison the world with products that are produced with lead and other harmful materials and the list goes on. They are not virtuous at all with this blm ploy. However, I don't care since I stopped following the league two years. You can enjoy their garbage product.

HK is more of a vital place in the world than the shitholes you mentioned. Alot more at stake

Human beings aren't human beings wherever they live? That is quite the rabbit hole to go down...

Either way, let's face it. The reason people like Hawley or media members like to do the whole "What about Hong Kong!" thing isn't because of altruism. It is because it is much easier to say that than discuss race relations in a truthful, objective and open ended manner, a discussion they're truly terrified of broaching for obvious reasons. So you just say the HK thing, keep it movin'....

The hypocrisy is in taking Billions from a country and in return they buy your complicity and silence in the mass scale of
human rights abuse taking place there. (I dont think people realize the extent of it..feel free to research if it concerns you)

Yes Im sure like many I eat and wear stuff from China but no one is telling me to SHUT UP and not talk about the abuses.
If those that cared and have a voice were to stand up then maybe some of these abuses could be curtailed.

I also dont think comparing the average nobody like me to a powerful organization like the NBA is a fair thing to do
because who can really boycott ALL things Chinese

That could be applied to pretty much all the major multinationals though. Apple, Google, Nike, Amazon, companies making wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more $$$ in the Far East than a basketball league. They all rake a fortune from their business ties with China and none of them speak out about the country's values not being entirely compatible with ours. And that isn't the only issue in the world they overlook either, the world is a messy place.

Besides all that though, I don't see why a US corporation or individual should be almost obligated to care about what is happening halfway around the world as they do in America. Like I said, there is a difference between complicity and apathy and I don't think you could accuse the NBA of being complicit.

That was a major theme of the last election, that systems like globalization or nation building abroad have gone too far. You can't project your values on everyone.

Why do people keep bringing up the China/Hong Kong thing? What if like most Americans they don't care what happens there?

You know who else doesn't care what happens there? Me, as well as pretty much all of you.

Very illogical "gotcha" there

I agree for the most part but the NBA and players are backing China as if they are not a fucked up country while acting as if America is racist and oppressive. I think that is the issue. Not that I care about China. Wish them all the best....but not really my problem. But I also don't care about the NBA.

If I or anyone else want to care about HK , I'm not sure what the problem is ? If people want to care about Iraq ? So be it. Or anywhere else.. I will keep coming back to my original post.. Alot of people care about HK .. End of story

That's kinda the funny part in it all, the correct response (well IMO, my response) is "We don't care about China because it is obviously an ass backwards place, the world is full of em and if you got a problem with that then you need to be complaining to people far more powerful than a basetball league" but obviously they can't say that so they have to pussyfoot around it.

And don't get me wrong for anyone reading the last few pages, I obviously think the US corporations current stance of "appeasement" towards these groups is comical and something to behold. I just don't really think Hong Kong is a part of that equation.

That's fine, but doesn't really have to do with the thread topic. And I would say most Americans do not care about HK, for instance if I was running for President. I would not make freedom for hong kong part of my platform as I think it would allow me to gain 0 traction.

I think it is a matter of there is so much going on right now in US for most of us to worry about China
combined with the fact that most people have no freaking idea how bad it has gotten over there

Heinous shit and I suspect this would be a bigger story worldwide that has been semi squashed due to
their virus...hmmmmmm?

Well what about the people that want to kneel for the flag , or the people offended by the rebel flag ?
Does thier feelings matter ?
Or is it ok to say fuck them ?

So people need to be sensitive to what you care about but you don’t have to be sensitive to what they care about ?
