Hey Fuc...you are being really hard on yourself. If you don't quit tonight, or tomorrow night, or even next week, it's ok, so long that you do find a way to quit. The cold turkey thing ain't working so far. I agree with others, at least try the patch and see if it does anything for you. If it does it may help you with the end goal.

I've known lots of folks that have quit Cold Turkey, and lots of others that are going what you are going through right now. Give the patch a try.

BTW...my mom just celebrated 60 years of smoking. Could be the key to her longevity.

Good luck bro but I don't think you'll make it. Hope you prove me wrong.

FucnLuc, sorry to hear that but I hate to say I told you so but I told you so. :nopityA:

Quit smoking is a tough ordeal, I think one of the key component to quitting is finding something that will mentally block you from thinking about it.

Here is a radical approach my friend used to quit smoking. For every time he smoked, he forced himselve to literally eat a cigarette (I don't know how safe it was but it was effective). He said the taste of it was so bad, he just couldn't force himself to go thru that everytime he wants lit one up. After a while, he said everytime he thought about smoking, instead of getting that good feeling from his memory, he get this disgusting awful taste embedded in his memory. It really helped him quit. Maybe you should implement something similar to your next attempt.

What I had to do when I quit was ease down from a pack to half to a quarter to three then one or two then none.
The other thing I had to learn was if I broke and had 1 cig it didn't mean I had to go an buy a pack.
Check out Allen Carr's books or try hypnosis

I got addicted to smoking just so I could quit it. Stop being weak. The same people that can't quit smoking are the same people that are too lazy to go to the gym. The former is addicted to a drug, and the latter is addicted to being lazy.

Alright, today was a complete failure. Bummed a cig from somebody mid-day, and just now bought a pack. I JUST COULDN'T CONCENTRATE. Was feeling very lethargic and mad.

Although I've always known quitting would be hard, I guess this was a reality check.

At least from this thread I heard some different ways to go about it in the near future. I appreciate the positive vibes, and let everyone who posted down.

Until next time :smoking:, I continue to kill myself.

OK man, hop back on the wagon, don't kill yourself.
No shame in trying hard and having a minor set back.

Haha, it doesn't bother me. It's internet tough talk. I already uncovered themanj fraud, and most people who talk like that on the internet are frauds as well.

If he met me at a bar or another occasion he wouldn't say those same exact words to my face, 100% guarenteed, because his jaw would be up his fucking face if he did.

I'm not lazy, I played 3 high school sports and was 1st team crew Division 1 in college waking up at 6 A.M for a 3 hour run, weights, and on the water with a second workout after the sun @ 5. Built more muscle on 6`5 then this guy could dream of for the rest of his life.

The smoking compounded after school from a couple after drinks on the weekend to then a pack a day.

Dopamine is one of the key brain chemicals actively involved in the desire to consume drugs. Research shows that by increasing the levels of dopamine within the reward circuits in the brain, nicotine acts as a chemical with intense addictive qualities. In many studies it has been shown to be more addictive than cocaine, and even heroin.

I put myself out here and manned up and admitted to failure which is more than some would do. Anyone who says they start smoking again just to quit, is fucking retarded to begin with.

you have got a good attitude about this addiction,it is sad that some asshole thinks this is funny,,i smoked for 30 years and never dreamed that i could quit,,,was a terrible alcoholic, joined aa 12 years ago and have been sober since,,gettin clean and sober(and stayin that way)taught me that i could do things(with other folks support)i didnt think possible,,,,good luck to you and don give up,there is nothin like bein free from nicotine, all the hell you go through tryin to quit will one day pay huge dividends,,ive done every drug on the planet and mister nicotine is a bad mfer.

My Dad has been smoking for 60+ years and still smokes a pack a day..

He is 78yrs old and extremely healthy.

My Dad smoked 3 packs a day and died at 52 of Lung Cancer...but probably just a coincidence.

First off extremely sorry if my post upset you in anyway sir.

I find it strange how some smokers live a long healthy life and some don't.

It didn't really upset me, I just find it naive to insinuate that smoking has helped someone live to a long life. I'm sure your father has lived a pretty healthy life otherwise. Good food, hard work keeping mentally active?
Some vices are ok...look where we are discussing this...but it's really the culmination of vices that will get you.

Oh I agree 100%

I wasn't saying smoking has prolonged my dads life just saying it hasn't ended it yet..

Was actually replying to WC Bias post where his mom has been smoking for ov 60yrs..

Well figure I'd throw an update in here although it seems this thread died. It's my third day on the patch still haven't slipped. It's not to bad the hardest part is not smoking when im driving. another thing is that I used to go outsiode every hour or so for a smoke kind of broke up the day. But so far it's not that bad and I was smoking over a pack a day.

Great job bro. Fantastic to see that. Hopefully one of these days I'll have the discipline to suceed at this.

FYI, check your blood pressure at a pharmacy when you get the chance. My mom tried the patch last week (shes been smoking for decades and decades) and it raised her blood pressure to the point of near stroke (upper # was 145, forget the lower). She's never had blood pressure problems.

It's a relatively common symptom, but some less (and often MUCH less then my old ladys) then others.

It's my 5th day. Im telling ya fucnluc it's not nearly as bad as i thought it would be and I used to smoke over a pack a day for seven years. I haven't bothered to even use the patch today. I honestly miss my cocktails more than the smokes. Figured i'd quit drinking for a week or two just to make sure as soon as I pour a drink i don't go for a smoke. Get the patch and make another run at it.
