The few people left with locals are either really sharp or really dull. Are you sure this guy isn't finding the dull-edged players aren't going bust or offshore.

I am not condoning booking but come on how many guys get hit? I would guess less than 0.5% of all guys running a shop get busted each year. I might be aggressive with that figure too. As JJ points out when the mayor and chief of police are on your list what do you have to worry about?

Did you ever hear of an "IF" bet. Well my local takes them if you must know. If you have any doubts bout this, good for you.

Hey, Jim... you should get your local to go online with hightech booking instead of answering the phones himself there locally where it is illegal. Let your locals go out to island site like my company's and you don't get the heat from the state or the feds.

Any questions? Feel free to drop me a line: ms.english@comcast.net

Mr Betguy,

Just a word to the wise.... a lot of people read these forums.... and not just gamblers. I'd be careful of giving them a way to trace you, FWIW.

Jimmy smart move IMO not taking the clientele. It's better to be on the other side of the ledger IF you-know-who comes calling. You know you can make if bets offshore too ;).

Locals Dead in NY

I'm from NY and can't even find a good local. I play offshore and hate the damn transfer fees- being I'm sending a hell of a lot more then receiving. Locals are not as easy to come by anyomore- 10 years ago any sportsbar I walked into I could find one- most reliable was bar at port authority bus terminal- go there now and all i find is those dumb parlay sheets

TicketMaster,
To bad I didn't know you back in the early 80's. On route 3, 2 miles from the Meadowlands there was a bar/Restaurant called J.P's Cafe where I used to work. It was owned by 5 godfathers. I played at each ones office plus 2 or 3 other books who were customers there! Thought I died and went to heaven. Do any of your friends bet with locals. Best way is have someone vouch for you.

Did the dunk in the NO really happen- god dammmmmm

Anyway- no don't discuss sports gambling with too many friends or co-workers (don't want them to know my biz)- been using wsex, pinny, bodog for years but tired of post up fees and crap- looking for a good NJ/NY shop- port authority bus terminal(bar) in NYC use to have some opportunity but I never tried there- besides a few parlay sheets. Port Auth has been no action since 9-11 and stuff- I have a feeling some of the big players were cops and after 9-11 they decided this gamblling stuff sucks- anyway- i'll try the meadowlands bar - i assume u mean at the racetrack? I need someone to meet in person- scammer jake the snake emailed me a while back and wanted to be my bookie lol- thank goddddd for the rx and I read about him here--------i love the rx but never posted- i type proposals all day- when i get home i just enjoy reading posts as opposed to typing

As I mentioned in another thread I book a little through my customers, I own a bar. I'd say I have about 50 guys and 40 are consistant losers, 5 break even and the other 5 are up a little. What I do is ask for the money up front ($100 max) and if you win, I'll pay you right after the game. No sense to lose a customer, bad for business. Fact is, this helps my business because many of them stay and spend a few bucks watching the game at the bar.

Anyway, I always get the kid off the street walk in, never seen him before...."I hear you take action on the games". Is it me or what...I feel like ***** slapping this punk in the face.

I can honestly say, this part-time gig helped pay for my house over the years and my wife loves it. She thinks im some kind of wise guy....I think it turns her on. :toothless

You're a very smart guy. Money up front always works. Paying as soon as game is over is a great thing for the player. 100 max nobody gets hurt, very smart on a small time scale. Yes you'll always have these PUNKS walk in and say I heard you take action on games. Its these idiots that get you burned. Be careful, losing your business isn't worth the 100$ plays you take!

Bookie- sounds like a good way to do it- but is it worth risking your business over 100 bets? I mean what if u piss someone off and they turn u in over $100- seems risky

Well, for starters I never take on anyone I dont know and the way I see it the bets are small time and im not organized in any way so I dont believe the cops really care. Speaking of which, I know of a couple guys (cops) who come in from time to time while off-duty and although they dont bet with me I wouldnt be surprised if they knew I did this on the side which by the way has been for about 12 years.
