As mentioned, it's a delusion. Muscular and skeletal portions of the body are less impacted. But if you could see their naked bodies (no homo....just medical peek) in contrast to most men same age who are non-tobacco users you would likely be astonished at the difference in skin condition. It will be drier, any and all cuts will be more scabbed and/or unhealed lesions. The insides of their mouth will be frankly in a decomposing state and most of their internal organs will be smaller than those within non-tobacco users due to decades of inadequate healthy cellular reproduction.

well i haven't smoked since harry started this thread so maybe we can all quit together

Well since you live in Alabama you can get you a can of dip and when the urge gets strong take a dip and it will satisfy your nicotine cravings cause one dip has about the same amount of nicotine as 5 cigs.

I mean don't start a new full blown habit just use that in place of the gum or patches

I'm off nicotine all together. I used to like a dip now and again, but I know myself, I'm gonna have to be off it completely or I will slide back.

I don't live in Bama anymore, I'm up in Chicago until next May. 1 year here and then to Charleston.

Let's do it man!

I crossed over the 48 hour mark today. Seems like I have the most trouble in the mid-morning. That's when I used to smoke the heaviest. Once I get past 2 or 3pm I'm golden.

Tonight was a tough one though, I was at a bar with friends (most of whom smoke) for hours. I went outside once while they had one, I was able to hold it together.

Got my eye on the 72 hour mark, that's when they say it starts getting way easier.

Dang, I miss that part, I thought you came to Chucktown last month.

Yeah, unexpected plot twist. Work stuff. They made it worth my while to take this stopover. Plus we're looking at moving our offices there from Summerville to North Charleston, which would make a commute from West Ashley or even James Island plausible, so I'm ok waiting to see what happens there, cause I plan to buy not rent. Finally sold my house in downstate Illinois.

I'm still in Chucktown every 6 weeks or so.

Good luck keeping it up. It's the one thing I wish I never would have picked up. Tried quitting but had a few drings. Tried quitting but need it to calm my nerves in public. Tried quitting but i'm bored at night. Tried quitting but work is stressful. Whatever the excuse I haven't been able to beat it. Hope it goes well for you.

Same. Put 6-8 in my mouth, keep them in one cheek, crack them open one at a time and eat the seed, put the empty shell in my other cheek.

Spit it all out when they're gone, refill.

I thought everyone did this.

You mean there are retards out there that eat the whole thing?

I'm at 60 hours this morning.

Taste buds starting to come back. Took me a minute to even realize. I was thinking "why is this the best damn cup of coffee I've ever had? Oh yeahhhhhhhh."

I woke up feeling fucking great. Really starting to dig everything I touch not smelling like shit.

Crossed the 72 hour mark last night. That is when they say the worst physical shit should be over. Definitely a big hurdle.

Today is my 4th full day smoke free.

I detailed my car over the weekend. Got all traces of smoke out of there. So nice to get into a clean ride.

Starting to enjoy all the benefits. Noticeable difference at the gym. Huge difference in my taste buds (yesterday I realized that ketchup actually has a flavor, it's not just to make food wet). And huge difference in how I feel waking up. I wake up refreshed, and not feeling like shit.

All these benefits in 4 days. And all I have to do to maintain them is ignore 2 or 3 five minute cravings a day.

Congratulations, hell of an accomplishment. Here's to sticking with it.

I know everyone is different, but I can tell you from experience to be careful even several months/years after quitting. I quit using Chantix and was shocked at how easy it was, after several failed attempts using other means. About 18 months after I quit I lost someone close to me and was a bit stressed and the event brought several old friends together, etc. Like a complete dumbass, I had a cigarette one night, thinking I could have one, it's been 18 months and I haven't even thought about it. You know the story, one turned into another a few nights later and within two months I was right back were I started.

I'm planning on going back on the Chantix now.

Best of luck moving forward.

Great job getting through the first few days.

I just wanted to chime in as, though, I don't smoke, I know many people that do.

It seems they have been bouncing back and forth continuously.

The one thing I notice, there seems to be a point to where 'you are under control' and simply have a casual smoke. I have seen this dozens of times. The mentality seems to be, I quit for a year so I have it licked.

Next thing, they are smoking again.

I kind of get it as I will have a cigarette from time to time and when I'm a bit hammered. I know I wont be having one any time soon there after. But with the ones that smoke, it is the point of failing. And they say the exact same thing- 'I haven't smoked in a year so I know I'm good'.

All of them have said that and, I think all of them still smoke.

Just mentioning this as a reminder 6 months from now.

Hope this makes sense. I'm pulling for you.

Thanks for the comment. Yes, I agree, I have seen the same thing with friends over and over again.

Complacency is my enemy here, gotta recognize that I cannot smoke casually anymore - ever - and treat it as such. Like I do with booze.

The main common thread with friends of mine that started back up is alcohol. They get hammered one night and smoke a few, wake up with a pack, and it's all over. Luckily I don't have that to worry about.
