Depending on that lot to actually hit the ball and get runners across the plate is indeed not a thrilling prospect. I hope I'm not cursing myself mid-way through this one....

That usually starts when I look up and see a 25-30 pitch first inning.

Great win for the boys and Vin. Papa Midnight and the Kooch in Houston tomorrow. GL tonight if you play!

Riding with the Kooch tonight. Word is that Chapman is going to the Cubs. Pretty much a done deal.... Not sure who we're getting.....

Yankee pitching v Angel pitching - big difference. The Kooch gets no run support and Vin takes on one the chin.

Astros tonight, says Vin. I don't think they'll get swept and I think we'll probably beat them tomorrow with Tanaka. These guys are good hitters but they chase a lot and a pitcher with a ball that dips out of the strike zone (like Tank's splitter or as we saw last night Pineda's slider) can beat them.

Last week was great, this week starting off to be a horrorshow. The juice factor is just insane. 11 games up and only netting about 5 units. No wonder a lot of gamblers avoid baseball.
The bad news: baseball is one motherfucker of a sport to bet on.
The good news: there's more of it every day!

Taking the Shogun when the line comes out. Hopefully the Astros will be faves not to get swept at home....

Shogun up, says Anjin-san. Bring out the brooms. Ko-shin style.

You are what your record says you are. McCullers has one goddamn pitch and you can't hit that after this run???? What a waste of money.
This is like mastrubating with a cheese grater. At the start you look forward to the possibility of getting to the end but as you progress, you really don't.....
Lesson learned: these shitholers do not sweep people NOR do they get up for a big game (could have gained three games versus one v Astros in the wild card...)
And with your best pitcher on the mound....

Two pitchers in pretty much identical situations tonight. We're gonna win one of these it's probably going to be tonight. Two leftys coming up says Vin, bad juju. Smyly has sucked this season but leave it to our guys to make him look good. And Snell should have beat us in his debut. That game has loss written all over it, says he. I don't see either team getting swept and Ivan's been pitching well. Let's hope the offense shakes off that putrid performance Wednesday in Houston and bring Jobu some rum tonight and Severino doesn't jinx us. Hopefully that stint in the minors did him some good and he went to see a Brujo, and got out from underneath it.

Hopefully we see Nova debuting for another team tonight .
A good start should be his ticket out of here.
He's not coming back next year and the Yanks were shopping him pre season.
They can put either Warren or Severino in his spot and use the other as the 7th inning reliever.

Looks like Odorizzi was excited at the prospect of getting out of Tampa and Nova was bummed about probably leaving NY. What a punishing week. Unreal. I hope I've got some fades out there and someone is making money. Will the downward spiral continue tonight? We shall see.

True. But if we trade Beltran, Vin told me things would likely go south quickly. That's the white flag. We're going to wait and see what shakes out the next few days and see where we are after the trade deadline passes.

Well we've not seen a trade deadline day like this around here for some time. McCann can still go to Atlanta, Vin reminded me. The four o'clock deadline was just if you wanted the players to be eligible for the post season. That's not a worry for Atlanta.

So tonight we're likey to see a shell of a team going through the motions.

Not necessarily, says Vin. That was the Tampa sweep. Now that the dread and anticipation is for the most part over, I think we'll see the guys who remain play a lot looser. I feel like they just want to get out there and play this out of their systems. God knows I wish I could.

Besides the Mets have been a mess lately, and the Big Man has pitched well against them in the past. And our boys, while bad with runners in scoring position, aren't the worst in the league. That would be the Mets....

Not exactly a ringing endorsement, says I.

What the hell do you want says Vin. We just had a fire sale and the Mets, although playing like total shit, still have a shot at the post season. They need this game. On paper they've got much more incentive, but baseball like any other sport isn't played on paper. I think we need this game too in a way, and with no pressure, I think we'll get it.

So there we have it. Yankees to win.

No play today. Two great pitchers and two iffy bullpens, says Vin. And two terrible hitting teams. Which one will come through? Lean Mets as Tanaka and Hicks at the bottom of the order should both be easy outs but not a real feeling one way or the other tonight. Good luck if you play!

I think we'll end up splitting this series said Vin when I talked to him. Matz should get it done for the Mets tonight and Eovaldi should beat Colon tomorrow.

Let's hope that's what happens! With sound reasoning like that, what could possibly go wrong?
