• In the 50-second call he claimed responsibility for his attack that left 49 people dead and 53 injured
• Mateen also 'made murderous statements in a chilling, calm and deliberate manner' according to FBI Special Agent Ronald Hopper
• The FBI first released redacted references to Islam, 9/11 and any other groups that Mateen pledged an allegiance to during the attack
• References to 'Allah' were replaced with 'God' throughout

• Republicans hit out at DoJ's decision to redact the Orlando shooter's conversation - citing it as another example 'of not focusing on the evil here'
• Hours later Justice Dept. and the FBI released joint statement including the complete transcript 'to provide the highest level of transparency

• Reasons for earlier redactions were 'to remain sensitive to interests of surviving victims' and 'not to give publicity platform to hateful propaganda'
