Jim Feist's Comp Pick, Monday, June 26, 2017

MLB (963) LOS ANGELES ANGELS VS (964) LOS ANGELES DODGERS.
Take: UNDER THE TOTAL.

Reason: Your free pick for Monday, June 26, 2017, comes in baseball as the LA Angels head to Los Angeles to face the Dodgers. Dodger stadium is a huge park, great for pitchers, and the Angels lose the DH for this interleague series, still without star offensive player Mike Trout. The LA Angels are 10-2 under the total when Ricky Nolasco starts on the road, plus 17-7-1 under in all his starts. the Dodgers go with Rich Hill, who has 43 strikeouts in 40 innings. Hill (4-3) struck out eight Mets over five innings Wednesday, giving up just a single run on four hits and three walks in an 8-2 victory. And the Under is 7-2 in Hill's last 9 home starts. Play the LA Angels/LA Dodgers Under the total.

GAME: Chicago Cubs (38-37) at Washington Nationals (45-30)
DATE/TIME: Monday, June 26 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Nationals Park, Washington, District of Columbia
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Chicago Cubs have had a difficult time sustaining any positive momentum during their World Series title defense, and they’ll face a tough task in trying to do so when they begin a four-game road series against the Washington Nationals on Monday. The Nationals hold a commanding lead in the National League East, while the Cubs are hovering one game above .500 and trail Milwaukee by 1 1/2 games in the NL Central.

The Cubs have been inconsistent all around, but the offense has been perhaps the biggest cause for concern. The lineup faces a tall task Monday against left-hander Gio Gonzalez, who is enjoying his best season since winning 21 games in 2012 and needs one strikeout to reach 1,500 in his career. Chicago first baseman Anthony Rizzo, one of the team’s hottest hitters of late, is 2-for-20 with six strikeouts against Gonzalez. The Cubs left 31 runners on base while splitting a four-game series at Miami over the weekend, including 11 stranded runners in Sunday’s 4-2 loss.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, MLB Network, CSN Chicago, MASN (Washington)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cubs RH Eddie Butler (3-2, 4.19 ERA) vs. Nationals LH Gio Gonzalez (7-1, 2.96)

Butler is winless in his last three starts, and he hasn’t made it through six innings since tossing six scoreless frames in his Cubs debut May 12. The 26-year-old allowed only one run and five hits Wednesday against San Diego, but he ran up a high pitch count and left without recording an out in the fifth. Butler has faced the Nationals only once, allowing four runs over six innings in a loss in 2015.

Gonzalez is well on his way to an eighth straight season with double-digit wins, and he has won four straight decisions with his last loss coming May 8 at Baltimore. The 31-year-old has posted five straight quality starts and is coming off a win at Miami in which he allowed three runs and six hits over seven frames with eight strikeouts. Gonzalez is 3-2 with a 3.23 ERA in nine starts against the Cubs.

WALK-OFFS

1. Washington 2B Daniel Murphy is 13-for-36 during a nine-game hitting streak.

2. Chicago SS Addison Russell left Sunday’s game with right shoulder discomfort and is considered day-to-day.

3. The Cubs have hit into at least one double play in seven straight games, matching their longest streak since 2012.

GAME: Minnesota Twins (39-34) at Boston Red Sox (41-34)
DATE/TIME: Monday, June 26 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Fenway Park, Boston, Massachusetts
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Boston Red Sox have had multiple opportunities to move up in the standings over the last two weeks but seem to be stuck in neutral. The Red Sox will try to pull out of a brief slide and turn the momentum back in a positive direction when they host the surging Minnesota Twins in the opener of a four-game series on Monday.

Boston dropped six of its last 10 games, including two of three to the Los Angeles Angels to begin the seven-game homestand, and remains in a virtual first-place tie with the New York Yankees in the American League East. The Red Sox managed a total of five runs in losses on Saturday and Sunday, going a combined 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position while leaving 11 men on base. The Twins went through their own funk recently that put their position atop the AL Central in jeopardy but pulled out of it with wins in five of six, including a three-game sweep at Cleveland over the weekend in which they outscored the rival Indians 13-2 to retake first place. Minnesota will try to keep the stellar pitching performances coming behind Jose Berrios on Monday while Boston counters with ace Chris Sale.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FSN North (Minnesota), NESN (Boston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Twins RH Jose Berrios (7-1, 2.67 ERA) vs. Red Sox LH Chris Sale (9-3, 2.85)

Berrios is establishing himself as one of the best young starters in the AL and is enjoying a streak of four straight wins. The 23-year-old went eight innings in each of his last two starts while allowing a total of four runs and striking out 14 with two walks. Berrios is making his first career start against the Red Sox and is 4-0 with a 2.84 ERA in four road starts.

Sale leads the majors with 146 strikeouts and punched out 10 over 8 1/3 innings in a win at Kansas City on Tuesday. The Florida native has issued just 19 walks in 107 1/3 innings but surrendered a pair of home runs against the Royals to snap a stretch of three straight outings without a long ball. Sale struck out 10 in six innings and got plenty of support in a win at Minnesota on May 7 that ended up a 17-6 final in favor of Boston.

WALK-OFFS

1. Red Sox LHP David Price has a cracked fingernail on his pitching hand but is expected to make his next start.

2. Minnesota 1B Joe Mauer is 7-for-14 over the last four games.

3. Boston RF Mookie Betts is 3-for-24 over his last six contests.

GAME: Texas Rangers (38-37) at Cleveland Indians (39-35)
DATE/TIME: Monday, June 26 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Progressive Field, Cleveland, Ohio
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Cleveland Indians struggled to score runs over the weekend and as a result fell out of first place in the American League Central. The Indians will try to bounce back and make something out of their homestand when they host the Texas Rangers in the opener of a four-game series on Monday.

Cleveland was outscored 13-2 while being swept in a three-game series at home by Minnesota over the weekend, pushing the team behind the Twins in the AL Central. "We're pretty streaky. Three days ago, we were hot," Indians manager Terry Francona told reporters. "That's why when somebody asked me, 'Hey, do you think you turned the corner?' I never say, '[Yes],' because it's fluid and it's continuing. Now, we'll play again tomorrow and we better be ready, because Texas looks like they're really starting to swing it." The Rangers swung it pretty well in taking two of three at the New York Yankees over the weekend, piling up 15 runs in wins on Saturday and Sunday. Texas will try to keep it going behind ace Cole Hamels, who will be activated off the disabled list on Monday to face off against Cleveland righty Carlos Carrasco.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, FSN Southwest (Texas), STO (Cleveland)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rangers LH Cole Hamels (2-0, 3.03 ERA) vs. Indians RH Carlos Carrasco (8-3, 2.99)

Hamels has been out since April 26 with a strained oblique but went 1-0 with a 1.04 ERA in two rehab starts and is ready to go. "It's the longest that I've been on the disabled list, the longest I've missed time during a season," Hamels told reporters. "At the same time, I've played the game. I've got a lot of innings. I've played against the teams numerous times. For me, it's just get back out there and get the feel and get back in the rhythm of actually getting to participate and help this team win." Hamels started against Cleveland on April 5 and did not factor in the decision while allowing four runs - three earned - in six innings.

Carrasco is on a roll with wins in three straight starts and struck out 10 without walking a batter in six scoreless innings at Baltimore on Wednesday. The Venezuela native surrendered a total of three runs in 17 2/3 over those three outings. Carrasco struck out seven in 5 2/3 innings and yielded two runs on four hits to earn a win at Texas on April 4.

WALK-OFFS

1. Rangers 1B Mike Napoli is 3-for-23 over his last eight games, dropping his batting average to .192.

2. Cleveland opened the season with a three-game sweep at Texas.

3. Rangers OF Nomar Mazara (forearm) and INF Joey Gallo (hamstring) are both day-to-day.

GAME: New York Yankees (40-33) at Chicago White Sox (32-42)
DATE/TIME: Monday, June 26 - 8:10 PM EST
WHERE: Guaranteed Rate Field, Chicago, Illinois
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The New York Yankees were the hottest team in baseball through the first two weeks of June, but things are not going so well in the back half of the month. The Yankees will try to turn things around and close the month strong when they visit the Chicago White Sox for the start of a four-game series on Monday.

New York won eight of its first 11 games this month and looked poised to open a big gap in the American League East before dropping 10 of their last 12 to drop into a virtual tie for first place with the Boston Red Sox. "We're still tied for first place in our division," Yankees manager Joe Girardi told reporters. "We've had a pretty tough, poor two weeks." The White Sox are enduring their own slide with losses in six of the last seven and had a streak of 29 wins when leading in the seventh inning or later come to an end when the bullpen couldn't hold up in a 5-3 home loss to Oakland on Sunday. Chicago will turn to converted reliever David Holmberg on Monday while New York counters with rookie lefty Jordan Montgomery.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, WPIX (New York), WGN (Chicago)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees LH Jordan Montgomery (5-4, 3.74 ERA) vs. White Sox LH David Holmberg (1-1, 2.84)

Montgomery is 3-0 in his last four starts and picked up a win on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Angels while allowing two runs and five hits in 5 2/3 innings. The South Carolina product struck out five in that turn and owns 71 punchouts in 74 2/3 total innings. Montgomery made his second career start against Chicago on April 17 and earned his first win while yielding three runs in six frames.

Holmberg has made five of his 14 appearances this season as a starter and is 1-1 with a 3.98 ERA in that role. The 25-year-old allowed four runs - two earned - and seven hits in 3 1/3 innings at Minnesota in his last start on Wednesday and worked one inning out of the bullpen on Friday. Holmberg is making his first career appearance against New York.

WALK-OFFS

1. Yankees OF Aaron Hicks suffered an injured oblique on Sunday and could miss 3-4 weeks.

2. Chicago rookie CF Adam Engel hit his first career homer on Sunday.

3. New York 2B Starlin Castro (wrist) received a cortisone shot on Saturday and is day-to-day.

GAME: Colorado Rockies (47-31) at San Francisco Giants (27-51)
DATE/TIME: Monday, June 26 - 10:08 PM EST
WHERE: AT&T Park, San Francisco, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Colorado Rockies have hit their roughest patch of the season and will try to get better when they visit the struggling San Francisco Giants for a three-game series beginning Monday. Colorado extended its season-high losing streak to five games with an ugly 12-6 loss to the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Sunday while San Francisco attempts to halt three five-game slides -- overall, at home and against the Rockies.

The Giants are coming off an 8-2 home loss to the New York Mets on Sunday that dropped them to 5-21 since back-to-back triumphs over Atlanta on May 27 and 28. Colorado, which led the National League West by one-half game Tuesday, suddenly finds itself 4 1/2 games behind Los Angeles, but still owns a comfortable advantage in the wild-card race. The Rockies were extremely generous Sunday as they squandered a 6-4 lead by allowing the final eight runs of the game - including five in a row on four wild pitches over two innings by reliever Adam Ottavino. DJ LeMahieu has been swinging a hot bat of late, going 4-for-9 in his last two games while hitting safely in 19 of his last 22 contests - recording 11 multi-hit performances in that span.

TV: 10:08 p.m. ET, ESPN, ROOT Rocky Mountain (Colorado), NBCSN Bay Area (San Francisco)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH German Marquez (5-3, 3.92 ERA) vs. Giants RH Jeff Samardzija (2-9, 4.74)

Marquez has allowed only one earned run in each of his last three turns, including a brief three-inning stint against the Cubs in Chicago, but has recorded only one victory in that span. The 22-year-old Venezuelan has won five of his last six decisions, giving up fewer than two earned runs in four of the triumphs - and two in the other. Marquez lost his only career start versus the Giants as he yielded six runs and 12 hits over 4 1/3 frames at San Francisco on Sept. 27.

Samardzija has won only one of his last seven outings despite allowing fewer than four runs six times in that stretch. The lone turn in which he surrendered more was a loss at Colorado on June 16, when he was tagged for eight runs and 11 hits over six innings. That setback dropped Samardzija to 0-3 with a 9.33 ERA versus the Rockies this season and 3-5 with a 3.91 ERA in 14 career appearances (10 starts).

WALK-OFFS

1. Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez missed the three-game series against the Dodgers because of a sore right shoulder and is hoping to avoid a stint on the disabled list.

2. San Francisco C Buster Posey drove in both runs Sunday, marking only the third time in 13 games he has recorded an RBI.

3. Colorado LHP Tyler Anderson's return from a knee injury was short-lived as he exited Sunday's start - his first since April 30 - after aggravating it in the third inning.

GAME: Los Angeles Angels (40-39) at Los Angeles Dodgers (51-26)
DATE/TIME: Monday, June 26 - 10:10 PM EST
WHERE: Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

After posting back-to-back road series victories against the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, the surprising Los Angeles Angels face another strong test in Monday’s Freeway Series opener against the host Los Angeles Dodgers. The Angels are back above .500 at 40-39, while the streaking Dodgers have won 10 straight games and 16 of their last 17.

Parker Bridwell pitched into the seventh inning and Ben Revere contributed three hits in Sunday’s 4-2 win over Boston as the Angels improved to 14-12 without injured star Mike Trout, who hopes to return before the All-Star game on July 11. “We’re right in the mix,” Revere told reporters. “We have a good ball club. With all the injuries we’ve had this year, we’re right there. We can compete against these good ball clubs here.” The Angels will be hard-pressed to slow down a powerful Dodgers offense led by rookie slugger Cody Bellinger, who homered twice and drove in four runs in Sunday’s 12-6 win over Colorado and has hit the most homers in the history of baseball (24) through 57 career games. The Dodgers lead the majors with a 24-6 record since May 25 and could have star shortstop Corey Seager back in the lineup early this week after missing the last two games due to a strained hamstring.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, FSN West (Angels), SportsNet LA (Dodgers)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Angels RH Ricky Nolasco (2-9, 5.23 ERA) vs. Dodgers LH Rich Hill (4-3, 4.73)

Nolasco has lost his last seven starts and given up a total of seven home runs over his last four outings, but manager Mike Scioscia remains confident in his veteran right-hander. “Ricky’s been a good major league starting pitcher, and he’s not that far off from where we feel he’s going to be as productive as he was toward the end of last year,” Scioscia told reporters. Nolasco has gone 1-2 with a 6.67 ERA in five career starts against the Dodgers.

Hill bounced back from a rough outing against Cleveland by holding the New York Mets to one run on four hits over five innings in last Wednesday’s 8-2 victory. The 37-year-old continues to struggle with his control and has issued 26 walks in his nine starts covering 40 innings. Hill has posted a 6.23 ERA in six career games (one start) against the Angels.

WALK-OFFS

1. Los Angeles is 32-10 at Dodger Stadium this season, including 11 straight wins.

2. The Angels recalled 3B Kaleb Cowart from Triple-A Salt Lake and optioned RHP Eduardo Paredes to the Bees.

3. The Dodgers placed OF Franklin Gutierrez (illness) on the 10-day disabled list and recalled UTIL Mike Freeman from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

PREDICTION: Dodgers 7, Angels 5

It's definitely a lot to ask for. But, would anyone happen to have a performance breakdown of some of the cappers that are posted? I rarely believe the records that are posted on many of the websites that have service packages since not many would post an outrageously bad record to promote themselves.

TIA
