GAME: Chicago Cubs (10-8) at Pittsburgh Pirates (8-10)
DATE/TIME: Monday, April 24 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: PNC Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

The Pittsburgh Pirates swept a three-game series from the Chicago Cubs the first time the National League Central rivals hooked up this season, and they hope to continue their strong performance against the World Series champions when they host the Cubs for a three-game series starting Monday. The Pirates are the only team to win a series from Chicago this season.

The Pirates have lost four of six since they left the Windy City, but they are coming off a 2-1 win over the visiting New York Yankees on Sunday. Pittsburgh’s offense produced 18 runs in the three games against the Cubs but has been held to two runs or fewer in four of its six games since. The Cubs had a four-game winning streak snapped in the finale of their three-game series at Cincinnati on Sunday, losing 7-5 despite Anthony Rizzo homering for the third straight game. Rizzo is 17-for-46 during a 12-game hitting streak.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, ESPN, WGN (Chicago), ROOT (Pittsburgh)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cubs LH Brett Anderson (1-0, 4.40 ERA) vs. Pirates RH Chad Kuhl (1-1, 2.60)

After two solid outings to begin his tenure with the Cubs, Anderson was shelled for six runs and eight hits in 3 2/3 innings Tuesday against Milwaukee. The 29-year-old surrendered six extra-base hits including a homer to the Brewers. Anderson is 1-1 with a 3.77 ERA in three starts against the Pirates, and he gave up one run over seven innings in his only previous outing at PNC Park.

Kuhl has posted back-to-back quality starts without picking up a win, as the Pirates have totaled four runs in his last two outings. The 24-year-old allowed just two runs and three hits over six innings Tuesday at St. Louis but was on the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat. Kuhl went 0-2 with a 10.45 ERA in three starts against the Cubs as a rookie last season.

WALK-OFFS

1. Rizzo is 4-for-7 with a double, a triple and a homer versus Kuhl.

2. Pirates 1B/OF Josh Bell drew a walk as a pinch-hitter in his only plate appearance Sunday, preserving his six-game hitting streak.

3. Pittsburgh is 3-4 against left-handed starters this season and batting .207 against southpaws.

Preview: Rays at Orioles
GAME: Tampa Bay Rays (10-10) at Baltimore Orioles (12-5)
DATE/TIME: Monday, April 24 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore, Maryland

The Tampa Bay Rays have looked like a much-improved team at home in April and must begin playing better away from Tropicana Field when they open an eight-game road trip Monday against the American League East-leading Baltimore Orioles. The Rays are 9-4 at home despite Sunday’s 6-4 loss to Houston, but won just once on a seven-game road trip through New York and Boston earlier this month.

Tampa Bay, which also visits Toronto and Miami on its trek, coughed up an early 4-0 lead Sunday as Steven Souza Jr. extended his hitting streak to seven games (12-for-29) with a two-run homer in the first inning. The Orioles saw their four-game winning streak come to an end Sunday with a 6-2 loss to Boston, but still own the best record in the AL (12-5) and they have won six of eight home contests. Baltimore won 13 of the 19 meetings with the Rays last season as Chris Davis belted six homers and Manny Machado went deep five times in the series. Ubaldo Jimenez hopes to follow up a dazzling performance in his last start as he takes the mound for the Orioles against Tampa Bay ace Chris Archer.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FSN Sun (Tampa Bay), MASN (Baltimore)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rays RH Chris Archer (2-0, 3.20 ERA) VS. Orioles RH Ubaldo Jimenez (1-0, 5.51)

Archer struggled for the first time in four starts last time out, yielding four runs on seven hits in just five innings of work in a no-decision against Detroit. The 28-year-old North Carolina native had given up five runs over 20 1/3 innings in his first three turns and has not allowed a home run this year while striking out 27. Davis has homered three times and Machado is 10-for-32 with a blast against Archer, who went 1-2 with a 4.62 ERA in four starts versus Baltimore in 2016.

Jimenez shook off two disappointing starts to open the season by limiting Cincinnati to two hits and four walks over 7 2/3 scoreless innings to earn the victory. The 33-year-old Dominican Republic native had surrendered 10 runs on 15 hits (three homers) over 8 2/3 innings in his first two starts of the season. Rickie Weeks (6-for-13) and Logan Morrison (5-for-8, one homer) have had success against Jimenez, who is 5-2 with a 3.19 ERA in eight career starts against Tampa Bay.

WALK-OFFS

1. Tampa Bay 3B Evan Longoria recorded six homers and 12 RBIs against the Orioles last season.

2. Baltimore CF Adam Jones has hit safely in eight of the last nine games and has 20 homers in 151 games against the Rays.

3. The Rays placed RHP Tommy Hunter (calf) on the disabled list Sunday and recalled RHP Chih-Wei Hu.

Preview: Reds at Brewers
GAME: Cincinnati Reds (10-9) at Milwaukee Brewers (9-11)
DATE/TIME: Monday, April 24 - 7:40 PM EST
WHERE: Miller Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Third baseman Eugenio Suarez is off to the best start of his career and hopes to continue the red-hot hitting on the road when the Cincinnati Reds begin a six-game trip Monday night against the slumping Milwaukee Brewers. Suarez went 6-for-11 with two homers over the weekend against the Chicago Cubs to raise his average to .371 and is 10-for-19 on the road in the early going this season.

Suarez doubled and scored twice in Sunday’s 7-5 victory as the Reds snapped a four-game slide to complete a 3-7 homestand before heading out on the road where they have won five of six contests. Rookie Amir Garrett takes the mound for Cincinnati in the series opener against veteran Matt Garza, who is expected to be activated to make his season debut after battling injuries. The Brewers have dropped five of six after a strong start to 2017, including Sunday’s 6-4 setback against St. Louis, and have won just three of 11 games at Miller Park. Eric Thames, who came into Sunday leading the majors with eight homers, belted five and knocked in eight runs as Milwaukee took three of four games at Cincinnati from April 13-16.

TV: 7:40 p.m. ET, FSN Ohio (Cincinnati), FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Reds LH Amir Garrett (2-1, 1.83 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Matt Garza (2016: 6-8, 4.51)

Garrett lost last time out 2-0 against Baltimore despite striking out a season-best 12 batters and recording his third straight quality start to begin his major-league career. The 24-year-old Californian and former basketball player at St. John’s won his first two starts while allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks over 12 2/3 innings. Garrett, who threw a season-high 97 pitches in seven innings against Baltimore, posted a 3.18 ERA during five years in the minors before making the Reds in the spring.

Garza makes his first start of 2017 after being hampered by a groin injury and making starts at both Class A and Triple-A which totaled 10 2/3 innings. The 33-year-old owns an 87-97 career record and made 19 starts last season with a 4-2 record and 3.38 ERA at home as opposed 2-6 and 5.43 marks on the road. Joey Votto (12-for-34, two homers) and Suarez (4-for-9) have had solid success against Garza, who went 0-2 with a 4.35 ERA in a pair of starts versus Cincinnati last year.

WALK-OFFS

1. Milwaukee OF Ryan Braun recorded multiple hits in five of the last eight games, including three homers and seven RBIs.

2. Cincinnati SS Zack Cozart (sore wrist), who went 6-for-13 with a homer against Milwaukee earlier this season, was a late scratch Sunday and is day-to-day.

3. Brewers C Manny Pina has hit safely in nine consecutive games, going 15-for-32 during that stretch.

Preview: Twins at Rangers
GAME: Minnesota Twins (8-10) at Texas Rangers (9-10)
DATE/TIME: Monday, April 24 - 8:05 PM EST
WHERE: Globe Life Park in Arlington, Arlington, Texas

The Texas Rangers have utilized their home field and dominant pitching to turn around a slow start. They will try to follow up an impressive four-game sweep when they play the first of three contests against the visiting Minnesota Twins on Monday.

Behind eight strong innings from Yu Darvish and homers from Joey Gallo and Robinson Chirinos, the Rangers picked up a 5-2 triumph over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday to cap the sweep and to win for the sixth time in their last seven home games. Texas starters owns a 3.04 ERA, second in the American League, and the staff as a whole boasts a 3.06 mark in 10 games at Globe Life Park in Arlington. Lefty Martin Perez will look to continue that trend against the struggling Twins, who have dropped six of their last seven after Sunday's 13-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers at home. Minnesota has won four of the past five meetings in Texas and scored 38 runs in a four-game series at Arlington last year.

TV: 8:05 p.m. ET, FSN North (Minnesota), FSN Southwest (Texas)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Twins RH Phil Hughes (2-1, 5.40 ERA) vs. Rangers LH Martin Perez (1-2, 3.60)

Hughes has regressed since a solid start in his 2017 debut and he was reached for six runs (four earned) on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings last Tuesday against Cleveland. The 30-year-old has allowed three homers and three doubles over his last two starts. Hughes has a 2.92 ERA in his career against Texas and a 2.89 mark in seven appearances (six starts) at Globe Life Park.

Perez boasted a 2.20 ERA through his first three starts before struggling at Oakland on Wednesday, when he gave up four runs in 3 2/3 frames. He yielded three runs in 11 1/3 innings over his first two home outings and has a quality 3.68 mark in 48 career appearances in Arlington. Current Twins hitters are a combined 6-for-34 with no extra-base hits and seven strikeouts against the 26-year-old Perez.

WALK-OFFS

1. Gallo boasts four home runs in his last five games while Chirinos has gone deep three times in his last two contests.

2. Rangers RHP Matt Bush picked up his first save Sunday and has seven strikeouts in four scoreless innings over his last four outings.

3. This series represents the only three games the Twins play out of division over their first 25 contests.

Preview: Royals at White Sox
GAME: Kansas City Royals (7-11) at Chicago White Sox (8-9)
DATE/TIME: Monday, April 24 - 8:10 PM EST
WHERE: Guaranteed Rate Field, Chicago, Illinois

Offense has been a major issue - particularly on the road - for the Kansas City Royals, a trend they hope to reverse when they begin a three-game series at the Chicago White Sox on Monday. The Royals dropped four straight at Texas to open their road trip, scoring five total runs in the process and managing five hits in Sunday's 5-2 loss.

The effort left Kansas City with a .187 average away from home, where the club is now 2-8. Fortunately for the Royals, their pitching has been superb and they open this set with Jason Vargas aiming for his fourth win in as many starts to begin the year. The veteran lefty outdueled San Francisco Giants ace Madison Bumgarner to lead the Royals to their last victory and he sports a 2.93 ERA on the road since joining Kansas City. Vargas takes aim at a White Sox offense that was shut out in back-to-back games before salvaging a series finale with a 6-2 win over the Cleveland Indians on Sunday.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, FSN Kansas City, CSN Chicago

PITCHING MATCHUP: Royals LH Jason Vargas (3-0, 0.44 ERA) vs. White Sox RH Miguel Gonzalez (2-0, 2.84)

Vargas, who is making his 200th career start, is 3-0 with a 1.10 ERA since returning from Tommy John surgery last September. He has struggled through nine career outings against the White Sox, winning just once and recording a 6.85 ERA. Melky Cabrera is 6-for-19 with three extra-base hits against the 34-year-old while Geovany Soto is 4-for-10 with a home run.

Gonzalez bounced back nicely from a rocky start two turns ago to dominate the New York Yankees on the road last Tuesday. He limited the Bronx Bombers to a run on four hits in 8 1/3 innings while striking out four, winning his third straight decision dating back to last season. The 32-year-old is 1-5 with a 4.36 ERA in his career against Kansas City.

WALK-OFFS

1. Kansas City has won 27 of its past 37 games at Chicago.

2. Royals C Salvador Perez has missed two straight games with a stiff neck and is day-to-day.

3. White Sox RHP Zach Putnam (elbow) is day-to-day.

Preview: Nationals at Rockies
GAME: Washington Nationals (13-5) at Colorado Rockies (13-6)
DATE/TIME: Monday, April 24 - 8:40 PM EST
WHERE: Coors Field, Denver, Colorado

The Washington Nationals have taken advantage of their stretch against division rivals, reeling off seven consecutive victories to match their longest streak of 2016. The reigning National League East champions attempt to extend their string of success and remain perfect on their 10-game road trip when they visit the Colorado Rockies on Monday for the first of four contests.

Washington began its winning streak with a home victory over Philadelphia before registering three-game sweeps on the road against Atlanta and the New York Mets. Former Met Daniel Murphy hit his second career grand slam in the first inning of Sunday's 6-3 triumph while Ryan Zimmerman also went deep for Washington, belting a two-run shot for his sixth homer - the most he has hit in the month of April in his career. The Nationals will be running into another hot team in the Rockies, who have won six of their last seven contests and are coming off their first three-game home sweep of San Francisco since May 2002. Colorado outscored the Giants 20-3 over the final two contests as it improved to 6-3 at Coors Field and Nolan Arenado has hit safely in six of his last seven games, going 11-for-27 with three homers and eight RBIs in that span.

TV: 8:40 p.m. ET, MASN2 (Washington), ROOT (Colorado)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals RH Jacob Turner (2016: 1-2, 6.57 ERA) vs. Rockies LH Tyler Anderson (1-3, 7.32)

Turner is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to make his debut with Washington after signing a minor-league contract during the offseason. The 25-year-old from Missouri was drafted ninth overall by Detroit in 2009 but has not lived up to his potential, going 12-27 with a 5.09 ERA in the majors with four different teams. Turner spent last season with the Chicago White Sox after an elbow injury limited him to two starts in Double-A in 2015.

Anderson is hoping to overcome his early-season struggles, as he has surrendered four or more runs in each of his first four starts - losing the last three. The 27-year-old native of Las Vegas has yet to complete six innings and lasted five on Wednesday, when he yielded four runs - two earned - and six hits in a setback against the Dodgers in Los Angeles. Anderson, who is 5-3 with a 3.36 ERA in 13 home starts during his brief career, will be facing Washington for the first time.

WALK-OFFS

1. Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon has recorded three home runs and nine RBIs during his eight-game hitting streak and drove in two runs in each of his last three contests.

2. Washington RHP Stephen Strasburg will be placed on paternity leave Monday as his wife is expecting the couple's second child.

3. Colorado SS Trevor Story is riding a five-game hitting streak during which he has recorded three homers and eight RBIs.

Preview: Padres at Diamondbacks
GAME: San Diego Padres (8-12) at Arizona Diamondbacks (12-8)
DATE/TIME: Monday, April 24 - 9:40 PM EST
WHERE: Chase Field, Phoenix, Arizona

The Arizona Diamondbacks have had their way against a number of pitching staffs already in 2017, although the San Diego Padres did about as good of a job as any team in keeping the best offense in the majors in check when they met last week. The Diamondbacks continue their 10-game homestand against National League West rivals on Monday, when the host the Padres for the first of four contests.

Despite Sunday's 6-2 setback against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Chase Field, Arizona is an NL-best 8-2 at home and has scored 74 of its major league-high 105 runs at the venue. The Diamondbacks were gifted four unearned runs - matching the number of errors the Padres committed - in Tuesday's 11-2 victory at San Diego, but they mustered only one more run over the final two meetings en route to losing the series. Jhoulys Chacin fired eight scoreless innings for the Padres to outduel Arizona's Zack Greinke in Wednesday's 1-0 victory to spark a three-game winning streak, and the two right-handers will square off again to begin this series. The Padres are only 3-8 on the road, however, and are coming off consecutive home losses to Miami, including Sunday's 7-3 defeat.

TV: 9:40 p.m. ET, MLB Network, FSN San Diego, FSN Arizona

PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres RH Jhoulys Chacin (2-2, 4.70 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Zack Greinke (1-2, 3.28)

Chacin enjoyed his finest outing as a Padre on Wednesday, getting the win after allowing only three singles and a walk while striking out five. The 29-year-old Venezuelan has yet to give up a run in 14 2/3 frames at home, but he has been tagged for 12 earned runs over only 8 1/3 innings in a pair of road losses. Chacin is 6-3 with a 2.74 ERA in 15 career appearances (14 starts) versus the Diamondbacks, including a 2-3 mark and 2.83 ERA in eight turns at Chase Field.

Greinke logged his first complete game of the season opposite Chacin, but he took the loss on Wednesday despite permitting only a solo homer by Erick Aybar among the five hits he allowed. The former Cy Young Award winner was coming off his worst effort of the season five days earlier, when he yielded five runs and 10 hits in five frames against the Dodgers. Greinke has fared very well in 17 starts versus the Padres, however, going 8-2 with a 1.96 ERA and 0.86 WHIP.

WALK-OFFS

1. Arizona 1B Paul Goldschmidt has recorded 16 home runs - his second-highest total against any opponent - and 17 stolen bases - his most versus any foe - in 91 career meetings with the Padres.

2. San Diego C Austin Hedges is one of only two backstops in team history to homer five times in seven games (Terry Kennedy, 1983). He is hitting .303 with two doubles, five blasts and 10 RBIs over his last nine contests.

3. The Diamondbacks lead the majors in batting average (.316), on-base percentage (.376) and runs per game (7.4) at home this season.

Preview: Blue Jays at Angels
GAME: Toronto Blue Jays (5-13) at Los Angeles Angels (8-12)
DATE/TIME: Monday, April 24 - 10:07 PM EST
WHERE: Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Anaheim, California

The Toronto Blue Jays turned on the power late on Sunday to gain the upper hand in their four-game set against the host Los Angeles Angels. Toronto now looks to record its first series win of the season when the teams conclude their string of matchups on Monday.

After splitting a pair of one-run decisions, the Blue Jays were kept off the scoreboard for seven innings on Sunday before Devon Travis and Kevin Pillar homered during a four-run eighth and Ryan Goins went deep in the ninth en route to a 6-2 triumph. Pillar's blast was his second in as many contests and extended his hitting streak to 11 games. Los Angeles received hits from only three players on Sunday, with Albert Pujols (three), Mike Trout and Andrelton Simmons all recording multi-hit performances. Trout is riding a seven-game hitting streak during which he has registered five multi-hit efforts while Pujols - who is tied with Paul Molitor (605) for 12th place on the all-time doubles list - is the leader among Dominican-born players with 1,832 RBIs and needs one to pull even with Dave Winfield for 17th in major-league history.

TV: 10:07 p.m. ET, Sportsnet One (Toronto), FSN West (Los Angeles)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays LH Francisco Liriano (1-1, 5.11 ERA) vs. Angels RH Jesse Chavez (1-3, 5.00)

Liriano has bounced back nicely from a disastrous season debut in which he surrendered five runs on three hits and four walks while retiring just one batter at Tampa Bay. The 33-year-old Dominican, who escaped with a no-decision in that outing, allowed two runs and struck out 10 over 6 2/3 frames in a hard-luck loss to Baltimore on April 13 and scattered four hits over 5 1/3 scoreless innings of a victory over Boston on Wednesday. Liriano has struggled against the Angels in his career, going 2-6 with a 6.20 ERA in 10 starts and a relief appearance.

Chavez will attempt to redeem himself after yielding three runs and four hits in one inning of relief in Friday's series opener, a 13-inning affair in which he suffered his third consecutive loss. The 33-year-old Californian, who originally was slated to face Toronto on Sunday, has allowed just one earned run in two of his three starts but went 1-1 in those outings. Chavez, who had a pair of brief stints with the Blue Jays, seeks his first career win over them after going 0-4 with an 8.53 ERA in four appearances (two starts).

WALK-OFFS

1. The Angels recalled RHP Brooks Pounders from Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday, and the 26-year-old was tagged for four runs and five hits over 1 1/3 innings in his debut for the team.

2. Toronto DH Kendrys Morales, who spent the first six seasons of his career with the Angels, is 5-for-15 in the series.

3. Los Angeles designated RHP Kirby Yates for assignment Sunday - one day after the 30-year-old served up a pair of solo homers in one inning of relief in his season debut.

Preview: Dodgers at Giants
GAME: Los Angeles Dodgers (9-10) at San Francisco Giants (6-13)
DATE/TIME: Monday, April 24 - 10:15 PM EST
WHERE: AT&T Park, San Francisco, California

The San Francisco Giants (2012) and Los Angeles Dodgers (2013-16) have combined to win the last five National League West titles, but neither team has shown much in the way of championship form three weeks into this season. The Dodgers attempt to reach the .500 mark Monday, when they begin a four-game series in San Francisco against the NL-worst Giants.

Los Angeles (9-10) took it on the chin in the first two contests of its seven-game road trip, as Arizona's league-best offense scored 24 runs against what had been the majors' top pitching staff prior to arriving at Chase Field. The Dodgers struck back Sunday to avoid their first sweep of the season, producing all of their runs during an explosive fifth inning to back seven strong frames from Brandon McCarthy and cruise to a 6-2 victory. San Francisco was shut out for the third time in seven games Sunday in Colorado, falling 8-0 to the Rockies for its sixth loss in that stretch. As a result of that setback, the Giants (6-13) were swept at Coors Field for the first time since 2002 and matched their worst 19-game start since 1983.

TV: 10:15 p.m. ET, MLB Network, SportsNet LA (Los Angeles), NBC Sports Bay Area Plus (San Francisco)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers LH Hyun-Jin Ryu (0-3, 5.87 ERA) vs. Giants RH Matt Cain (1-0, 3.31)

Ryu has struggled to find his previous form after missing the bulk of the last two seasons and suffered his third defeat in as many turns on Tuesday after giving up four runs in six frames against Colorado. The 30-year-old South Korean already has served up six home runs over 15 1/3 innings in 2017 after surrendering a total of 24 over the first 348 2/3 frames of his major-league career. Hunter Pence (10-for-22, seven RBIs) and Aaron Hill (7-for-16, homer) both have thrived against Ryu, who is 4-4 with a 4.07 ERA in nine starts versus the Giants.

Cain has turned back the clock a bit over his last two outings after a rough season debut in San Diego, including a no-decision at Kansas City on Tuesday in which he gave up one run and four hits over seven innings. The three-time All-Star notched his first victory of the season six days earlier at home against Arizona, yielding one run and striking out six in five frames. Cain did not register a decision in two games (one start) versus the Dodgers last year and is 5-11 with a 3.53 ERA in 32 career appearances (31 starts) against them.

WALK-OFFS

1. San Francisco's rotation has posted a 5-11 record with a major league-worst 5.02 ERA.

2. Dodgers 1B Adrian Gonzalez, who doubled twice on Sunday to snap a 15-game streak without an extra-base hit, is a career .267 batter versus the Giants - his lowest mark against any NL West foe.

3. The Giants have beaten Los Angeles five straight times at AT&T Park, giving up a total of nine runs during the winning streak.
